This is a piece that was built to last with strong and heavy construction throughout. The crest is an ornate and complicated carving of flowing ribbon tied in a double-bow and interlaced with flowers that sprout over and along the frame, likewise carved carefully with a large twisted rope molding lined by a small twisted rope border. The arms flow down into curved handholds, the arm supports terminating in the frame with acanthus leaves sprouting up along the edges. These arms flank a deep and very comfortable down upholstered cushion, thick and very supportive, complimenting the overall cant of the chair- by leaning just slightly backwards. This is a simply wonderful chair to rest and lounge in. The apron is an intense display of flowers along a vine, acanthus leaves sprouting from beneath the cushion to peak out over the edge. You'd say"Fauteuil" They were probably manufactured after the second world war, and are made of solid walnut. The upholstery is fairly new, clean and no pet or smoking odors. The seats have springs are nicely firm. The backs have a slight"crunch" to them, which makes me think they have horsehair in there somewhere. Nice old school materials. The pieces have all the curves and cabriolets of this particular style, and have bits of floral-motif hand carving on the crest, the knees of the front legs, and the center of the skirt. They are solid and sturdy- I can see one joint that looks like it may have been re-glued. There are no repaired splits. There are two odd circular pits in the back of one of the legs- very shallow, and the size of a collar button. Other than that, magnifique! Shipping is FREE in the USA. Old set of four French Louis XV caned arm chairs
Beautiful set of French armchairs(4) with cane back. The seats of these chairs originally were caned seats. But most tore threw on edge. There is a nice wood cut out placed on top of each chair to make it sturdy. The cane bottom is still underneath if you would be interested in repairing it. There are pillows/seat cushions that can be used with them, but I personally was thinking of upolstering the seat(on the removeable wood piece)

Who had an upscale custom furniture business in New York back in the 1950's. It is difficult to find his furniture for sale. They were purchased by the owner in New York when she lived there. They have cabriole shaped front legs and appear to be fruitwood. These beautiful chairs were recovered in a really nice silk brocade type of fabric(fabric cost $100/yard many years ago) This set of 8 includes 4 arm chairs.
