Oak Eastlake 3/4 bed with side rails Victorian
Oak Eastlake bed from the late 1800's or early 1900's. It is the 3/4 size with the attaching side rails. At one time it was painted a light blue which is still present on the back of the headboard. Fortunately nothing was damaged and the patina is still intact and the excellent eastlake workmanship is not impaired. It seems like many individuals aren't too successful selling just one piece of furniture on Ebay.So I've included close to half of what I would like to find a new home. This beautiful antique furniture piece has been handed down through the seller’s family and is not a reproduction. Originally owned by great grandparents who lived in a log cabin. This piece was inherited by the seller’s family who remember seeing it in the cabin prior to 65 years ago. No one in the family knows the date it was originally acquired by the great grandparents. This wonderful piece is reminiscent of a mirrored wardrobe when positioned and makes a great addition to a guest room because of its space saving style with a hidden bed inside! Folding beds were advertised in Montgomery Ward catalogues prior to 1900. The cabinet measures 78” tall. 58” wide and 27” deep when closed, 80” deep when open. It has a removable mesh/spring support for a mattress(mattress not included) mattress opening measures 50” x 74” A sofa mattress 48” x ... more72” may be a good choice to allow room for linens. This is a well made and sturdy free-standing piece that moves easily on its metal casters. It does not need attachment to a wall because of its counterweights explained below. Included are the 10 removable original cast iron counterweights on the back that allow the bed to raise and lower almost effortlessly with a slide mechanism. As the front of the bed is lowered. The counterweights allow the lower portion of the headboard to butt to the upper section resulting in a 72” high headboard. These weights(12 lbs 10.8 oz. each) are easily accessible and lift out to diminish the weight of the piece which allows ease of movement to a new location. The gorgeous oak cabinet has not been refinished but has some water staining from plants placed on top in times past(see photos—this area becomes the footboard and is not visible when the unit is closed) It appears that the handles to open the cabinet(one on each side) may have been moved slightly or replaced as there are two empty screw holes by each handle. This splendid antique bed features gorgeous spoon carved flowers. Flowing incised carvings and a fancy plumage and scroll crest on the head-board with the foot-board offering the same beautiful spoon carvings and incised carvings as the head-board. VICTORIAN BED, BED SPRINGS & 2 DRESSERS Dated 1876/hand-carved oak
Hand Carved VICTORIAN BED& BED SPRINGS + 2 DRESSERS. The entire bed is solid oak with the original finish. The bed& springs were in continuous use from 1876 thru 2008 in the same family. Outside Bed Measurements are at Headboard Height: 57” Footboard Height: 42” outside Length: 77” outside Width: 53½” The inside bed measurements are: Length: 73” by Width: 51” The head& foot boards are on casters& the entire bed rolls easily for cleaning or, when taken apart, for transportation. The side rails slip easily in& out of slots in the head& foot boards. It comes with the slats, including the small center one which was used to distributed the weight of the mattress& people evenly on the center of the mesh springs. The bed springs, with the original stenciled date of 1876, are made of steel mesh stretched tightly over ... morethe solid oak frame& secured at the ends with thick iron pieces. The springs are still firm& without any sag. There is no indication of a manufacturer’s name on the mesh or iron end pieces and they may have been mail order. The bed needs a little loving care– mostly just a good cleaning(the spot of white on the foot board decoration(see pic) is a small streak of paint) being dusty and covered in old furniture polish. It does have a few scratches& small dings from age, but nothing major. Both dressers were made at the time as the bed, 1876, and by the same craftsman. They are oak& are all original with no replacement pieces& with the original finish. THE LARGE DRESSER with associated mirror measures: Height: 44” Depth: 19” Width: 41” The Ogee mirror is an oval 23 ½” by 15” is probably a later addition. The dresser has 2 trinket drawers made with key holes, but without knobs, a small bow front top drawer& 3 large lower drawers; all of which work properly. Rare L. C & W. L. Cron tiger Quartered Oak & Curly Flame Birch Full Bed
I have found similar bedroom suites in Cron's 1898 catalog but I think this set might be a little older than those. The ones I found are listed as"Quartersawn Oak and(very rare) Curly Birch Bed Room Suites" This set is called the bedstead and is"Mahoganized" according to their catalog which gives it the spectacular reddish brown color. The carving is very deep. High relief motifs of scrolls, feathers and plumes. There are rails as shown in a separate picture(we found them later) The paper tag shown is off of the matching"Mirror Dresser" Which was sold with this bedstead as a set. I am certain they are a match as I also have the mirror with the same motifs, and these ornaments are also carried through on the drawer pulls for this dresser. The sets that are similar to this one are on the first pages of the ... morecatalog, so I am assuming that these were the very best that the Cron Company would have to offer. They are also curly birch and are mahoganized. This is a full sized bed measuring 56.5 inches wide by 53.5 inches tall. The footboard measures 58" wide by 26" tall. The L. C& W. L. Annie's Antique Oak Murphy Bed
Antique. One of a kind, Murphy Bed with the original springs. This is a beautiful piece of furniture in wonderful condition. And comes with a friendly ghost attached! Take it for what you may. We believe her name is Annie. And she apparently is quite proud of the bed because it was where she made her living. We were told by a psychic friend, who had not even realized it was a bed(it gets mistaken for a wardrobe) that he saw a woman whose name he thought was Annie, leaning against the bed and smiling. He told us that when we opened it up we should look for notches carved inside. We didn't think much about it at the time and were preparing to move so had boxes packed such that we couldn't bring it down to check it out. Before we moved it. We brought the bed down and couldn't believe it when we found notches carved all along the ... moreframe holding the springs. They had definitely been carved by someone. And we think that it might just have been Annie. Our proud Madam ghost from at least a hundred years ago, still hanging out with her bed. She is harmless. As we have not actually seen or heard from her ourselves; but the notches convinced us she's for real. Though the notches are noticeable with the bed pulled down. They do not detract from the beauty of the piece. And the story behind them definitely adds a dimension of intrigue. I purchased this item in London at auction in February 10th. 2001 for 400 pounds sterling and I had it shipped to the US with a lot of other furniture that I purchased. The auctioneers estimate was actually 400- 600 pounds, so I got a great deal on it. Including the auction commission/ freight. In current dollars, my cost was approx. $900 for this item. As I am leaving. I am looking to recover a lot less than this- great deal for you! The bed is from between 1850- 1890 and is French. As a daybed. The bed is intended to be pushed against a wall, and has a front, and two sides, but no back of the bed. We used the bed in our nursery for our twins. And it was perfect. The bed comes with a custom made mattress that I had made in New Jersey. You can sleep on the ... morebed(our nanny did for 2 years) While the bed is solid. The carvings and workwork have to be handled with great care, and we have had to put some extra nails in to secure it. If you are looking for a central piece for a nursery. This is it! As a daybed. It is small. The bed measures corner to corner 53 inches by 80 inches. The mattress measures 45 inches by 72 inches. The top and bottom of bed measure 42 inches high. The bed is comprised of two sides and a carved front. And a low back. It is simple to build and take apart- but once apart the front particular is very fragile. This is where damage can be done. Somebody has made sure this little bed will go with any color. I'm positive under that paint is some really beautiful oak and judging by the saw marks on the bottom and top of the legs. I'm pretty certain it is homemade. I doubt a company would have tried to sell the bed with the saw marks still on the bed. You can paint it a different color or strip the paint off and see some beautiful oak or leave it as is. It's good and solid, well built. This exquisitely carved Victorian solid Oak full bed always gets a"Wow" The bed itself is 81" long and 62" wide. The headboard is 85" high and the foot board is 36" high. There are side boards and it fits a full sized mattress. It has side rails one of which is missing one piece on the top of the railing in one corner. There are a few scratches but otherwise this beautiful piece is in great condition. There is a board at the bottom of the headboard that has slipped that needs to be tapped back into place. This exceptional antique furniture piece has been handed down through the seller’s family and is not a reproduction. Originally owned by great grandparents who lived in a log cabin. This bed was inherited by the seller’s family who remember its use in a bedroom of the cabin prior to 65 years ago although no one in the family knows the date it was originally acquired. It features the original beveled mirror, elegant heart-shaped overlays, and has not been refinished(a collector's plus! Folding beds were advertised in Montgomery Ward catalogues prior to 1900. The cabinet measures 78” tall. 58” wide and 27” deep when closed, 80” deep when open. It has a removable mesh/spring support for a mattress(mattress not included) mattress opening measures 50” x 74” A sofa mattress 48” x 72” may be a good choice to allow room for linens. This is a ... morewell made and sturdy free-standing piece that moves easily on its metal casters; it does not need attachment to a wall because of its counterweights explained below. Included are 10 removable original cast iron counterweights on the back that allow the bed to raise and lower almost effortlessly with a slide mechanism. As the front of the bed is lowered to the floor. The counterweights allow the bottom portion of the headboard to butt to the upper section resulting in a 72” high headboard. The weights(12 lbs 10.8 oz. each) are easily accessible and lift out to allow less weight and ease of movement to a new location. The metal decorative plates on each sideboard with the name“Victoria Bed” swivel to become the supporting legs of the footboard end of the bed. This is a very sturdy piece of furniture with ease of operation although there are a few things to note. The solid oak cabinet has no cracks and has not been stripped or refinished. The owner purchased the bed in 1970 at an auction in Thomasville Georgia which has its own tradition of excellence in antiques. The bed sets up tight and sturdy. And the dresser and washstand are solid and tight as well. The original wide beveled mirror does show some cloudiness and streaking that is age appropriate, and all the locks are intact on the dresser but we do not have the key. The old original finish does show some light wear as expected with its age. The dresser has a section of damage in the center middle measuring up to 8" wide by 3-1/2" deep. I always had either an old linen runner over it and/or an antique mirrored vanity covered it, so it was never noticeable. This bedroom set is otherwise in wonderful original antique condition but as with all antiques are not perfect but have time worn marks of character and usage they have acquired over they past 100 plus years. Final Markdown-Now is the time to buy! This exceptional antique furniture piece has been handed down through the seller’s family and is not a reproduction. Originally owned by great grandparents who lived in a log cabin. This bed was inherited by the seller’s family who remember its use in a bedroom of the cabin prior to 65 years ago although no one in the family knows the date it was originally acquired. It features the original beveled mirror, elegant heart-shaped overlays, and has not been refinished(a collector's plus! Folding beds were advertised in Montgomery Ward catalogues prior to 1900. The cabinet measures 78” tall. 58” wide and 27” deep when closed, 80” deep when open. It has a removable mesh/spring support for a mattress(mattress not included) mattress opening measures 50” x 74” A sofa mattress 48” x 72” may be a good choice ... moreto allow room for linens. This is a well made and sturdy free-standing piece that moves easily on its metal casters; it does not need attachment to a wall because of its counterweights explained below. Included are 10 removable original cast iron counterweights on the back that allow the bed to raise and lower almost effortlessly with a slide mechanism. As the front of the bed is lowered to the floor. The counterweights allow the bottom portion of the headboard to butt to the upper section resulting in a 72” high headboard. The weights(12 lbs 10.8 oz. each) are easily accessible and lift out to allow less weight and ease of movement to a new location. The metal decorative plates on each sideboard with the name“Victoria Bed” swivel to become the supporting legs of the footboard end of the bed. This is a very sturdy piece of furniture with ease of operation although there are a few things to note. The solid oak cabinet has no cracks and has not been stripped or refinished. VERY RARE Antique Oak Murphy Bed Dresser Secretary Desk Book Case 1800's
Extremely RARE Murphy Bed combination that includes built in dresser with drawers. Mirror, bookcase, drop down secretary desk and fold down bed! Incredible quality and workmanship and is perfectly clean and all original finish including glass in bookcase door which is extremely wavy glass. This is a large and heavy piece but rolls easily on it's original heavy steel caster wheels. The whole unit turns easily and the bed folds down easily also as the legs automatically fold down and lock into place. In one of the photos you will see a patent date of 1865 that is on one of the arms that holds the mattress in place. This is simply a wonderful piece of furniture and history during a time of pride of craftsmanship when things simply were not disposable and has thus survived this long for that very reason.
