This is an antique cast iron bed. It has a little rust but still extremely solid. It measures 43 inches by 6 feet and is 56 1/2 inches tall. It probably weighs over 100 pounds. The rails are original and use the tapered drop in cone type of assembly which is very convenient and well engineered because you don't need bolts. Here is a pair of antique cast iron bed rails taken from a brass bed. Date from the late 1800's and feature a tapered drop in style pin end. Each measures 73" long(pin end to pin end) Pins taper from 7/8" wide(top) To 3/4" wide(bottom end) Both rails are in very good to very fine condition with a coat of old gold paint and light surface rust that could be sanded off relatively easy. Antique Bed Rail Single bed rail off a brass or iron bed. This rail features tapered pin ends. It is a FLAT TOP rail = the flat edge of the angle iron is up. See pictures as it is pictured like it mounts with the top side up. Your buying it"as found" it has not been cleaned and has heavy rust but is not rusted out. These often don't just drop in and fit your bed, 1/16" can make a big differance in fit. Customers have had excellent sucess at getting them to fit with some minor hand sanding or dremel tool work.
