The chair number is 10-6040(hard to read in the photos) manufactured ... morein plant#14 in the popular nutmeg color. This is a mates chair and although it have those little stubby"arms" it is not to be confused with the actual captain's chair of this style that has much longer arms. These were produced for a number of years by Ethan Allen for a few of their lines including Traditional and Early American. There is no damage to the chair and only a few tiny dings or scratches from normal use. There is very light wear to the very tip of the top rail and tip of the"arms" All the joints are nice and tight. It is in the popular nutmeg color and the finish is very good. It has been thoroughly cleaned and polished with butchers wax. It is 29 1/2" tall with a 17" seat height. The height of those stubby"arms" is only 25 1/4" so these chairs can be tucked tightly under the apron of most tables. Leaving more floor space in a smaller dining area. As for the chair it is very comfortable due to the great formed seat work that Ethan Allen was noted for in all of their lines from this period. It is constructed of maple and built to last for generations. As always, feel free to ask any questions and I'll get right back to you. This charming bed is crafted in wonderful rich solid maple and has four tall ring turned tapering posts joined by a rectangular canopy frame.The head-post are joined by a slightly arched head-board with small incurved sides, straight, chunky side rails and raised up on tall baluster turned legs, with the original rope pegs still intact on all four sides. This fine period bed measures a total height to the top of the tester frame on the posts of 80 inches( 6 ft 7 inches) height to the top of the head-board is 39 inches, height of the foot-board and the side rails measure 19 inches. The outside measurements of the bed are 57 inches wide by a total length of 81 1/2 inches.And the ... moreinside mattress area measures 49 inches wide by 74 1/2 inches long and should accommodate a full size mattress; using a twin or 3/4 box springs resting inside the heavy L brackets and the full size mattress placed on top of the box springs with the mattress edges nestling next to the rope pegs or it would accommodate a 3/4 mattress set. This bed is a mid-19th century continental bird’s eye maple and parcel gilt bedstead w/carved decoration and paneled centre flanked by turned columns on bun feet. The headboard is intricately carved with a central carving and monogram of what looks like a stylized“M” and“S” This is flanked by“waves” of gilded carving. The headboard is decorated with two twisted columns with topped by carved and gilded Corinthian capitels. The same motifs are repeated on the footboard. All of the carving is of very high quality. The bed is in perfect condition in the sense that it is not warped or cracked or split and has been professionally renovated and cleaned up. There is wear on the gilt. Which is normal with age and contributes to the patina. In that sense. The bed is not“mint. Mid 19th Century 4 Post Bed Nice Maple Color Pine Headboard
Wonderful mid 19th century 4 post bed. Bed is in very good condition with nice old finish and great patina. The wooden frame of this bed has been replaced to fit a larger mattress. It comes complete with all the bed bolts to assemble the bed. The posts measure 81" tall. The rails measure 72-1/2" for the sides and 55" for the head and foot rails. The headboard is made of pine and the posts are maple. There is some splitting to some of the posts, but they are strong and sturdy.

This is not a typical purchase but for the collector or just enthusiast of antique sleigh beds this is a real masterpiece. Back in 1977. My family was in Spring Lake MI enjoying what is always a great summer and as an 11 year old it did not get much better. In any case, my Mom went to Grand Rapids one afternoon to visit her Mom. At some point in the day they went to an outdoor antique market and she stumbled across this bed. The bed was sold to her by an older gentleman from Canada whose family brought it with them at ... morethe turn of the 20th century when they immigrated to the USA. As my Mom tells the story the family was"down on their luck" and needed to sell the bed. At the time it was painted white.who knows why) but my Mom has a great eye for antiques and she knew the treasure underneath the paint and bought the bed for $300(in 1977 that was a ton of money. In the late summer we headed back to our farm in Northern KY(Bed strapped to the roof of the Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser) and it was put into one of the stalls in the barn. In the Spring of 1978 Mom started the task of stripping off the paint and bringing this bed back to life and after became my bed for about 20 years. In leaving the Cincinnati area and heading to Chicagoland I took it with me in hopes that one day one of my own kids might enjoy it. However as life goes 2 things happened.1)Daughters do not like this kind of stuff and 2) my 3rd son grew out of it too fast.
