Regal Classic American Empire Solid Mahogany Tall Poster Bed~Circa 1830 Being offered for sale is this American Empire Solid Mahogany and Crotch Mahogany Tall Post Bed circa 1830. This early 19th century bed has a commanding presence with is four tall massive octagon shaped bed posts of solid mahogany. The head-board features a shaped carved crest of crotch mahogany with a recess panel of crotch mahogany at the center. This fine bed bolts together very tight and sturdy. The only apology I can find for this nearly 200 year old bed would be a small chip on the inside of one of the posts near the top(see last pic) and the inset panel of the head-board has a slight age shrinkage crack neither of which is very noticeable unless very close inspection and not an issue of the sturdiness of the bed. Gorgeous Classic American Empire Flamed Mahogany Tall Post Tester Bed~c1820's Being offered for sale is this Gorgeous American Empire Flamed Mahogany Tall Post Tester Bed circa 1820's. This early 19th century bed has a commanding presence and even appears to have its old original slats! The head-board features a arched shaped top with scrolls at the shoulders and recessed panels of flamed mahogany below. Beautiful and substantial flamed mahogany tall posts( 4 1/2 inches wide at the square portion) feature carved bee-hive type finials with the tester top frame resting on the top. The bed can also be used with out the tester frame This fine bed bolts together very tight and sturdy. The only apology I can find for this nearly 200 year old bed would be a some small veneer losses here and there on the posts at the square base portion which ... moreis not very noticeable unless very close inspection and not an issue of the sturdiness of the bed and one of the wood bed bolt covers appears to have been replaced at some point in time see last picture. Truly a very impressive bed that is sure to be a grand focal point of any bedroom especially when the tester top is dressed and draped with fabric! Measurements: posts measure 80 in. tall(6ft 6 in. Head-board center 67 1/2 inches tall Height of side rails to the floor 15 1/2 inches outside with of bed 66 1/2 inches outside length of bed 83 inches mattress area: 64 1/2 in. wide by 72 1/2 in. long. Its wide enough for a queen but would need a mattress made for it for the length or extend the wood rails to add 5 1/2 inches in the length so it would fit a todays queen size set. This early 19th century bed has a commanding presence with beautiful and substantial acanthus leaf carved mahogany tall posts that feature carved pineapple type finials that rest on top the tester frame. The bed can also be used with out the tester frame. The head-board is positively gorgeous with it's carved fruit basket adorning the center flanked by large scrolls with recessed panels of flamed mahogany below. The back of these recessed panels are chamfered which is typical of quality pieces of the era. This bed was once a rope bed as evidence of the rope pegs in the rails and headboard& footboard. Measurements: 47 inches high at each end 63 inches wide 100 inches long Mattress area 57 1/4 wide 86 inches long A hard to find piece of Empire furniture this bed is absolutely stunning. Each end features a one board solid Mahogany panel 21 3/4 inches wide. The top and bottom of the head and foot is covered in Crotch Mahogany with the tops having an outward roll. Solid and sturdy the scalloped rails have been extended making it longer the a queen. Which is nice, giving plenty of room for bed linens.The bed does not measure queen where the bolt hole covers are but does measure queen on top of them(60 3/4) I know that sounds confusing, please call me and I will be happy to explain. As for apologies ... morethere are a couple of veneer flea bites on the rolls and a some molding missing on 2 feet(see photos) Neither of these things are very noticeable and do not affect the Grand Statement this fantastic bed makes. American Empire Burl Mahogany Sleigh Bed Circa:1820s This is an original early 1820s burl mahogany sleigh bed with lion's claw feet. It is in it's original unrestored condition and is in overall VG condition for it's age. Normal wear with some minor abrasions on top edges of floor board and on claw feet. Bed has been in family for 90 years and was purchased at the 1924 World's Fair in St. Louis. MO when the bed was approximately 100 years old. It measures approximately 7' 9" from tip of front claw feet to tip of rear claw feet. It is approx. 5' wide and height of headboard measures approx. 4' 5" and footboard height is approx. 3' 4 1/2" It was considered to be a standard. Double bed originally. This early antique bed appears to have its old finish and bolts together tight and solid. The inside mattress area of this bed measures to a close queen size but please measure your mattress set to assure fit. There is a chip to the head-board finial on the left side towards the back(see picture) and the right inside panel of flamed mahogany does show age shrinkage where it joins to the side board(see picture) thus a thin vertical space. And the old finish does show age and wear as age appropriate. Neither of these distract from the integrity or grandeur of this bed,just a part of the character from age and usage over the past 170 ... moreyears or so.
