Antique Jenny Lind Rope Spindle Baby Bed/Cradle/Crib
This large ca. 1860's JENNY LIND CRADLE in walnut is stained dark. The head and foot and side spindle posts all are beautifully turned in the traditional Jenny Lind pattern. The slats and slat framework are newer. This is a large. Sturdy cradle measuring 40 inches long, 22.5 inches wide, and stands 37.5 inches high. This is a great decorative piece and could be used as the companion to a doll or bear collection. This item has some condition problems. The joint system is simple& set up to be rock solid& not budge on you at all. We believe because the rails are so heavy that they are cast iron with a gold lacquer painted finish to match the bed. All of the brass posts& spindles are hollow otherwise this would be ridiculously heavy and the headboard& footboard are heavy enough as they are! The brass has a wonderful& warm patina to it! The side rails on the headboard& footboard are both marked"1872 4/8 SATIN" The corner joint of each rail large raised capital"G" stamped on the top& the joints on the sides of the H.B. F.B. each have the number"2" stamped in the same manner. From the outside of the posts headboard to footboard the bead measures 81.5" long by 54.5" wide across. The rails on the inside measure 77" long by" wide& the rails themselves are 1.5" wide across. The H.B. stands 58.25" tall to the top. This is a very nice antique Jenny Lind style Spool/ Spindle Bed frame from the 1800's. With both head& foot board spooled. It is all original with the original black paint. It's a 3/4 full size and in excellent condition. Just requires some cleaning up. It has copper rosettes covering the rail hardware. It is a heavy bed. Therefore made of some-type of hardwood. Antique rope bed. Fantastic shape, must have been redone one spindle been glued
This was my mothers and looks like it was redone somewhere along the line. It has a high gloss clear over it all over. The spindle was broken by a nephew of mine years ago. It was wood glued back together and is fine now. But the spindles are only 1/4" thick at their narrowest point and are decorative and fragile and not really child friendly. It looks like the spindles were all handmade as none are completely identical. It also has a twin mattress and a feather mattress to go on top of it shown that the buyer can have along with a feather pillow. My mother collected antiques and nothing she had was a reproduction. This is the real deal. Solid(whatever the wood is) There is a twin mattress and a feather mattress to go on top and a feather pillow(shown) that also go with it. We could store it for a month or so in the garage but when the ... morehouse sells. The feather mattress will have to go. The size is about 50" wide(the frame) 78" long and about 51" tall to the top of the corner balls. Starting cheap. Moves fine. solid and sturdy. The wheels on feet are original and are the white glass or porcelain. I really cannot say what type of wood used. Walnut- Maple- Mahogany- Cherry? I know for sure NOT Oak or Chestnut. The top part of both the headboard& footboard has the Pressed Star motif. The slats are complete. There is a mattress that is from the 1940's that's vinyl covered and its in great condition. This is for a very rare and very hard to find solid wood antique spindle bed. Wheels on the bottom with cast iron. Heavy side rails. This is an antique twin bed. Marked VONG on the rails. No other manufacturer name. Very, very old, dating to late 1800s or early 1900s. Normal surface wear. Small dent on the headboard, can be fixed, by sanding and staining if wanted, see photo, it can be repaired. This bed is gorgeous a one-of-a-kind and very, very hard to find. Rails no longer have the screws or bolts to attached, but they can be purchased and installed separately. Circa Late 1800s. We are selling the foot-board. The headboard and the two side rails only. Bed has wheels on bottom. Measures: Headboard- 48" tall x 36" wide x 2" deep. Foot-board- 41" tall x 36" wide x 2" deep. It comes with a very old velvet burgundy mattress that perfectly fits the support wood blocks that form a ledge on the inside of the wood side rails. It has very old roller casters on the legs. Condition: the headboard and footboard are in very good condition for their age; the bottom of the legs show the most blemishes; one of the wood side rails is marked Bess and Bess Lottis on the inside; the under liner on the mattress has two tears(one is larger than the other) the side rails show blemishes from over the years; one side rail has a crack in the wood. But without a loss in the strength of the rail and the mattress has a 1" tear on one corner where a metal support brace shows. Please take a close look at the pictures.
