Antique English Oak Bedroom Set Armoire Wardrobe Dresser Barley Twist Headboard
You are bidding on a BEAUTIFUL Antique English OakBedroom Set/ Suite/ Ensemble. I am not an antique expert or dealer.But I was told when I purchased these pieces that they are all Victorian Style English Oak(medium) manufactured in England in the late 1800's. All pieces were purchased separately. But they"match" amazingly well. There are three items in this set: Dresser- Measures 36"W x 19"D x 38.5"H. With 4 drawers of increasing size from top to bottom. Head Board and Foot Board w/ rails modified to fit a Queen Size bed- Both pieces are 54" Wide and 1.75" Deep on corner posts. Thinner across the back. The headboard is 53.25" High and the footboard is 27.25" High. Both have a diamond design in the center panel, and 1.5" slats out to the sides, with Barley Twist on the ends of the headboard ... moreonly. There is a small screw(hardly noticeable) at the very bottom of the left footboard foot, where it had once had a small crack, bus now fixed and solid. As they did not have Queen beds back 1800's, the rails have been modified to fit a Queen bed, so the mattress hangs about 2-3" off either side of the bed- this is very common for people who have an antique head and foot board, and is not noticeable once the bed is made up. Armoire/ Wardrobe- Measures 47"W(plus 2.5" on each side for the crown) x 18.5"D x 80"H. This is a beautiful piece. And VERY functional. Has a hanger bar across the interior along with 5 hooks for miscellaneous items. Also has a large drawer underneath for storage. The design is shown in the close-up(photo 2) and there is a beveled glass mirror on the door. The wardrobe actually comes in three pieces that sit on each other- base, main cabin, crown- so it is easier to move than it looks! The deep rich finish is in excellent condition on this American made antique furniture. Expertly adapted to fit a standard modern queen size mattress as shown. The mattress and spring unit pictured are 16" thick together. Wood slats underneath are included. The bed measures 5' 7" wide and 7' 2" long. The headboard is 6' 2" tall and the footbaord is 34" tall. The chest has large dovetailed drawers. The original beveled mirror has a little"smoke" to show its age. The bed features a blanket roll style crest and foot and round center medallions and incised carving on the head and foot boards. It has been refinished at some point. The bed is in excellent condition have only normal use ware~no apologies to speak of. The be does have a very interesting feature. It has what we believe are original springs. The tension in the springs can be adjusted by turning bolts at the top. The springs are also dated July 2 1872. Measurements: 66 inches high 63 inches total width 83 1/2 inches long Mattress area 60 inches wide and 78 inches long~while the bed does not quite measure queen in length. I think one would fit as they can vary in size slightly ... moredepending on the maker. DRESSER~~The Marble top dresser offers the same crest as the bed and has a tilting mirror. Three drawers with key offer nice storage. While solid and very sturdy there is a repair to the marble on one corner(photo 9) and a separation in the wood on one side where the two pieces of wood joined(photo 10) With those apologies being mentioned. I find this to be a very nice sturdy set and one that will be handed down to the next generation. Original old beautiful ornate antique carved oak bedroom set which dates to the period 1880-1900. This set is from an old Michigan farmhouse that was closed up for more than 20 years. The finish appears to be all-original. With some wear and aging, but in very good condition. Bed includes vintage open-coil spring and mattress, both like new, used little if at all.
