There is typical wear here and there to the original surface from every day use over the years. Has original solid wood side rails with scrolled brackets. There are some stress cracks running up the posts that are typical for age. There is some surface loss on one of the posts that I have shown in a closeup photo. The bed is all original.The padded upholstered canopy needs redoing. It was left so the pattern could be used to reproduce new canopy. The assembled bed is taller than avg ceiling hgt. I have custom made pieces that convert the head board end to 8ft. So the bed can be used in most any room. The bed was made in France and either shipped in at Charleston or New Orleans and went directly to a large estate home way out East Blvd in Charlotte NC. in 1878. A Dr had purchased the bed and it was placed in the East Blvd home. It stayed there until the 1940's when it was moved to the families' home on the Catawba River. and stayed there until 1956 when it was given as a gift to my Aunt. FULL TESTER BED STAMPED C. LEE LARGER THAN QUEEN FRENCH POLISH VICTORIAN MALLARD
This is rare opportunity to purchase an authentic Full Tester Bed by the famous antebellum cabinet maker Charles Lee. This impressive bed was made around 1850 and crafted of the finest mahogany. It is identical to the original bed found in the master bedroom in the Natchez antebellum mansion. Rosalie. The arched headboard features carved leafy scroll work which meets in the center with a pendant of hand carved grapes. Pomegranate, and leaves dropping down. Book-matched crotch mahogany accents the central recessed panel. The side rails have carved leaves, volutes, and a central cartouche that resembles a crown. One of the special features of this bed is that it has the most complex bed posts created by C. Lee. Some beds have cluster columns, but this bed has a post with an undulating profile that alternates from convex to concave. Crowning ... morethe bed is wide, flaring ogee tester. The entire bed has a mirror smooth French polish that brings the mahogany to life. The photos are not great, but I assure you the graining of the wood and the finish are clear and bright. Anti-Bellum Tester bed from the Como Plantation. 92" tall in excellent condition. This bed was purchased 25 years ago from a descendent of the original plantation owner ~ C.S.A. Captain Lane W. Brandon. The bed purportedly was built by slaves. But we have no documentation to confirm this. Note: Lane W. Brandon was educated at Harvard. Class of 1860, leaving the university to follow the fortunes of the Confederacy. He enlisted as a private in a company raised by his father Brig. General William Lindsay Brandon in April 1861. He saw service throughout the war, and was made a captain after the battle of Gettysburg. He was in fifteen of the principal battles fought by the army of Northern Virginia, being absent from his command only three times, twice from wounds and once from other sickness. Ante-Bellum Tester bed from the Como Plantation. 92" tall in excellent condition. This bed was purchased 25 years ago from a descendent of the original plantation owner ~ C.S.A. Captain Lane W. Brandon. The bed purportedly was built by slaves. But we have no documentation to confirm this. Note: Lane W. Brandon was educated at Harvard. Class of 1860, leaving the university to follow the fortunes of the Confederacy. He enlisted as a private in a company raised by his father Brig. General William Lindsay Brandon in April 1861. He saw service throughout the war, and was made a captain after the battle of Gettysburg. He was in fifteen of the principal battles fought by the army of Northern Virginia, being absent from his command only three times, twice from wounds and once from other sickness. Walnut / Rosewood Half Tester Bed
Recently acquired from an old southern estate. This lovely half tester bed appears to be made of walnut& rosewood. In the 1800's rosewood was highly sought after and quite expensive. Rosewood has a stunning vibrant grain but is also a very soft wood. For these reasons stronger and less expensive woods, like walnut& mahogany, were used in combination with rosewood solids and veneers. In this particular case it appears that walnut was used and then rosewood graining was hand applied to give the appears of an entirely rosewood bed. This two toned.Elegantly carved, full bed has a wonderful patina. The fabric canopy was done in 1992 in a beautiful rose colored satin and is in overall excellent shape. The bed was purchased in 1982 at an estate auction in Georgetown, KY, just outside of Lexington, KY. This bed would be lovely for a girl's room or in a house of comparable antiques. A Museum-Quality American Federal Sheraton Tall Post Bed made of Cherry. This bed features its original tester which is often lost and is set up for use with a full size box springs and mattress utilizing angle irons. The posts are substantial and the bulbous fluting and elegant turning of the posts is of the highest quality. Typical of work coming out of many of the major cities in the Colonial Period. It is possibly from Virginia based on the turning of the foot posts. The head posts are not ornamented which is typical as they were often covered in drapery. Large victorian bed. I believe it is a Double. That has about 8 pieces. The two side pieces slide in but it seems to have had another little piece on each side. The top is all carved and this has another top piece that goes along with it, carved also may for a mirror or other bedroom piece. Not sure of the wood, but darker in color. Stands about 9 ft tall. A Rare survivor and now fully restored so it can be enjoyed for many years to come. From the vinyl fabric cradle to the four poster reinforced frame it is now not only a great display of History. But also most functional. When we acquired the bed the frame had a patch work of screws. Nails and"L" brackets holding it together so we had it professionally restored and now it is strong a sturdy with updated"hidden" screws covered by later swivel caps. The cradle has been upholstered with a vinyl fabric including a mattress. We have had the tester frame professionally decorated with delicate draperies. It comes complete with all the delicate draperies. The bed features fine old carvings. 19th c American Chippendale Mahogany Acanthus Leaf Tall Post Tester Canopy Bed Being presented for sale is this grand 19th century American Chippendale Mahogany Acanthus Leaf Carved Tall Post Tester Bed. This 19th century bed features beautiful and substantial acanthus leaf and spiral twists carved mahogany tall posts with turned finials.A broken arch head-board with a carved finial at the center and four large ball& claw feet.This bed can be used with or without the tester frame. This fine bed bolts together very tight and sturdy. Truly a very impressive bed in wonderful antique condition. This grand 19th c bed was once a rope bed and the side rails appear to have been replaced at a later date to accommodate todays standard mattress length, there is one of the brass bolt covers missing at the head-board left side. A substantial, quality ... moremade bed even lovelier in person than the pictures show( the dark areas on the head-board are shadows from the tester frame) and would surely be a grand focal point of any bedroom. RARE MAHOGANY FULL TESTER DAY BED CARVED SWAN HEADS *GORGEOUS*
Here is a early solid mahogany Full Tester Day Bed. I believe it to be in the original finish. Both headboards are carved with swan heads. All four posts are heavily carved and rest on metal caster covered by brass covers. Put together with bed bolts. It measures 82 inches long. 48 inches wide and 102 inches tall.
