On rare occasions however I come across a pair so extraordinary that I feel compelled to purchase them. And this pair? Wow. Wow! Rembrandt Lamps offered high-quality lamps. And this pair is no exception. They are beautifully made. The detail, design, and materials are all exceptional. There are brilliant gold accents, too. Then there are the shades. OMG! They are. No doubt, original, and are deliciously evocative of the late 1930s and early 1940s. PLEASE NOTE: The condition of the shades is unusual for their age. But they are absolutely vintage and look as such: The fringe is in good condition(good. Not excellent) Each upper corner has a silver X-shape cording. These are all in situ. But at least four of the eight would need to be replaced. The inner lining of one shade is in good condition. The lining of the other shade has several tears; some small. As can be seen from the close ups the design consists of angels with wings and a heraldic shield. The original wood structure is in excellent strong condition with no worm and with the remains of its original old French grey paint with a series of hooks to the inside for fitting the drapes. There is typical wear here and there to the original surface from every day use over the years. Has original solid wood side rails with scrolled brackets. There are some stress cracks running up the posts that are typical for age. There is some surface loss on one of the posts that I have shown in a closeup photo. Posts are Mahogany thick veneer surface. Top frame is mitered joint boards which are nailed to top of posts. Entire surface would benefit from a good oil and wax. Outstanding condition for its age, circa 1870-1900, original untouched finish, reeded columns, flame turned finials, bolt on rails. a magnificent quality custom/replica of the Sheraton style. The canopy top and the rails are not pictured) I the tops of pine and is the curved type, as opposed to flat, the rails are mahogany all are in great condition as well. Possibly Kittenger(they began production just after the Civil War, we are using the original finish patina to determine the age which we firmly believe to be no less than 100 years and no more than 150 years of age. The style of construction, the quality of the piece and the age all suggest Kittenger in a strong way. I am unaware of any other maker of this style and quality during this time frame. Antique brass and iron canopy bed. Aesthetic Movement era with stylized sunflowers on the headboard and a brass plaque depicting the Madonna and Child on the footboard. Originally from Malta, brought to the US in the 1970s. Originally a double bed, the rails have been lengthened to fit a queen size mattress. The width has not been altered. A queen size mattress fits nicely. There are hand-painted flowers twining up the canopy posts, some are worn off with age, others are still there. Somewhere along the line. Like they did back in the 1960s and 1970s, they did the rails over and lengthened it out to take a full size modern size box spring and mattress. This one has the crown on top and I think the wood is tulip wood, but it came out of the Midwest and I am not as familiar with the Midwest woods as I am the east coast woods. The pictures will show you what you are buying. It is an early canopy poster bed that has been adapted for a modern day box spring and mattress. It comes with a crown molded top, four extra tall multi turn posts, headboard shield and adapted side rails to give you the right length for a modern day mattress. The finish is a cherry brown. It used to be a rope bed, but it has been adapted to a modern day box spring and mattress. It comes with a canopy linen on the top and underneath the rails and the front. This American Empire period antique was expertly adapted to fit a standard modern queen size mattress as shown. Solid maple. The satiny finish is in excellent condition. Original side rails with holes for stringing a rope"spring" were extended. An upholstered pallet or"bunky board" is included to use instead of a spring unit, photos show a standard queen size mattress that is 10" thick. Delicate and well proportioned posts are beautifully hand carved with a spiral motif on this historic furniture. Large bolts secure this bed together. They have brass covers. With a deep repousse brass surround and a large cartouche to its centre. It is still retaining its fabric roof which is( possibly toile de Nantes) with it muted raspberry background and a central vignette with two angelic looking children with hunting horns and two dogs on leads. And one by her side in close attendance… this vignette is surrounded by a mass of flowers, leaves and swags and two small birds hanging from hoops all in a white/grey colour. It is still retaining its original brass back bar for the wall drape. To the outer edge on each side there are small indentations of where the original hanging hooks would have been. Not sure if this is full or queen size. It measures 57" wide and posters stand 87" tall. The only issues are the one side going into poster meeting the head board a chip of wood is missing. And a piece of canopy wooden trim is held together with some tape. Probably just needs gluing, can't see it with canopy on it. If you'd like more close up photos let em know. Has original finials and casters. Everything is original aside from having the rails lengthened from a double bed to a queen size(nothing was altered in the width) Easily fits a queen size bed. The mattress just hangs over both sides a little in the width. Length is perfect for queen size. There are still remnants of hand-painted flowers twining up the posts. The story is that this bed came from a house of ill repute on Malta(off the coast of Spain) My sister bought it in the 1970s from an antique dealer and he had this bed and about 10 other much less ornate iron beds, all from the same house of ill repute.
