Made by the National Spring Bed Company and easily from the mid to late 1800s. It has some wear as shown. But still very stable and solid. In fact, the old rust gives it an excellent patina. Boards are a little warped, but I think they could be straightened. Wood appears to be original. If I was to redo this piece I would remove the rust from the ... moremetal frame(where the mattress would set) and leave the part that is upright as is. There are two lion heads or gothic type creatures at the bottom of two of the legs. One appears to be broken(missing claw foot) But this does not affect the bed's stability. Folded and standing it measures about 22" by 50" by 42 1/2" When it is a bed the measurements are 75" long 48 1/2" wide and 25 1/4" in height. ANTIQUE VICTORIA FREE STANDING OAK MURPHY TYPE BED
This beautiful antique furniture piece has been handed down through the seller’s family and is not a reproduction. Originally owned by great grandparents who lived in a log cabin. This piece was inherited by the seller’s family who remember seeing it in the cabin prior to 65 years ago. No one in the family knows the date it was originally acquired by the great grandparents. This wonderful piece is reminiscent of a mirrored wardrobe when positioned and makes a great addition to a guest room because of its space saving style with a hidden bed inside! Folding beds were advertised in Montgomery Ward catalogues prior to 1900. The cabinet measures 78” tall. 58” wide and 27” deep when closed, 80” deep when open. It has a removable mesh/spring support for a mattress(mattress not included) mattress opening measures 50” x 74” A sofa mattress 48” x ... more72” may be a good choice to allow room for linens. This is a well made and sturdy free-standing piece that moves easily on its metal casters. It does not need attachment to a wall because of its counterweights explained below. Included are the 10 removable original cast iron counterweights on the back that allow the bed to raise and lower almost effortlessly with a slide mechanism. As the front of the bed is lowered. The counterweights allow the lower portion of the headboard to butt to the upper section resulting in a 72” high headboard. These weights(12 lbs 10.8 oz. each) are easily accessible and lift out to diminish the weight of the piece which allows ease of movement to a new location. The gorgeous oak cabinet has not been refinished but has some water staining from plants placed on top in times past(see photos—this area becomes the footboard and is not visible when the unit is closed) It appears that the handles to open the cabinet(one on each side) may have been moved slightly or replaced as there are two empty screw holes by each handle. Annie's Antique Oak Murphy Bed
Antique. One of a kind, Murphy Bed with the original springs. This is a beautiful piece of furniture in wonderful condition. And comes with a friendly ghost attached! Take it for what you may. We believe her name is Annie. And she apparently is quite proud of the bed because it was where she made her living. We were told by a psychic friend, who had not even realized it was a bed(it gets mistaken for a wardrobe) that he saw a woman whose name he thought was Annie, leaning against the bed and smiling. He told us that when we opened it up we should look for notches carved inside. We didn't think much about it at the time and were preparing to move so had boxes packed such that we couldn't bring it down to check it out. Before we moved it. We brought the bed down and couldn't believe it when we found notches carved all along the ... moreframe holding the springs. They had definitely been carved by someone. And we think that it might just have been Annie. Our proud Madam ghost from at least a hundred years ago, still hanging out with her bed. She is harmless. As we have not actually seen or heard from her ourselves; but the notches convinced us she's for real. Though the notches are noticeable with the bed pulled down. They do not detract from the beauty of the piece. And the story behind them definitely adds a dimension of intrigue. SPRING SALE SPECIAL! GORGEOUS ANTIQUE VICTORIA FREE STANDING OAK MURPHY TYPE BED
This exceptional antique furniture piece has been handed down through the seller’s family and is not a reproduction. Originally owned by great grandparents who lived in a log cabin. This bed was inherited by the seller’s family who remember its use in a bedroom of the cabin prior to 65 years ago although no one in the family knows the date it was originally acquired. It features the original beveled mirror, elegant heart-shaped overlays, and has not been refinished(a collector's plus! Folding beds were advertised in Montgomery Ward catalogues prior to 1900. The cabinet measures 78” tall. 58” wide and 27” deep when closed, 80” deep when open. It has a removable mesh/spring support for a mattress(mattress not included) mattress opening measures 50” x 74” A sofa mattress 48” x 72” may be a good choice to allow room for linens. This is a ... morewell made and sturdy free-standing piece that moves easily on its metal casters; it does not need attachment to a wall because of its counterweights explained below. Included are 10 removable original cast iron counterweights on the back that allow the bed to raise and lower almost effortlessly with a slide mechanism. As the front of the bed is lowered to the floor. The counterweights allow the bottom portion of the headboard to butt to the upper section resulting in a 72” high headboard. The weights(12 lbs 10.8 oz. each) are easily accessible and lift out to allow less weight and ease of movement to a new location. The metal decorative plates on each sideboard with the name“Victoria Bed” swivel to become the supporting legs of the footboard end of the bed. This is a very sturdy piece of furniture with ease of operation although there are a few things to note. The solid oak cabinet has no cracks and has not been stripped or refinished. It has some water staining from plants placed on top in times past(see photos—this is not visible when the unit is closed) The decorative heart-shaped carved onlays on the front of the cabinet are all secure and beautifully accent the piece.

This is a late 1800s oak murphy bed that has been completely refinished and has a brand new futon mattress. A full 74" x 54" sleeping area. Plenty of room. With great quartersawn flake in the beautiful oak wood. And a large beveled mirror, it's hard to improve on this way above average murphy bed. Works perfectly. Note the one image that displays how the bed's front panel can be positioned for"airing" it out! Antique ash murphy bed circa late 1800s restored - new mattress
This is a late 1800s fold down/ flip out murphy bed. A real space saver. Completely refinished and it has a brand new futon mattress. The inside is an ample 75" x 48" It's made of ash and has a handsome quarter sawn front face with some fancy carving to boot. Note: We have 2 other murphy beds listed at the moment(4/18/14) one is quarter sawn oak, the other is a top-of-the line walnut model from 1885. We've sold several murphy beds over the past years and they are very handy for using in small rooms. Antique Victorian Free Standing Murphy Bed- ORIGINAL
This is a very sturdy antique piece of furniture. It has not been stripped or refinished. It was found in a house in New England that my grandparents bought that had been empty many years. They purchased the home and bed in 1960. And it was used many times for guests. When they sold the house the bed moved to West Virginia to my in-laws home. The mirrored front is original and has aged fairly well. The mechanism still works to lower it easily to become a full size bed for guests. Or it would be great for display. This bed would love a new home. It really is a piece of history. Must be seen to be appreciated. Looks like the old versions in the 1890's Sears Roebuck catalog. Would definitely need a new mattress. Antique Murphy Bed & Writing Desk
Early American Murphy Bed with writing desk and wardrobe. Beveled mirror on door and scrolls with rope detail on the wood front. Writing desk has letter slots with a drop down desk front and additional storage below. Wardrobe has hooks with an additional shelf for storage. Plate around key hole missing. Stretcher between bed legs and a small piece of detail on desk door is missing. Hinges on desk door have been relocated. Door on bottom has been repaired. 53" W x 27" D x 79" H.

VERY RARE Antique Oak Murphy Bed Dresser Secretary Desk Book Case 1800's
Extremely RARE Murphy Bed combination that includes built in dresser with drawers. Mirror, bookcase, drop down secretary desk and fold down bed! Incredible quality and workmanship and is perfectly clean and all original finish including glass in bookcase door which is extremely wavy glass. This is a large and heavy piece but rolls easily on it's original heavy steel caster wheels. The whole unit turns easily and the bed folds down easily also as the legs automatically fold down and lock into place. In one of the photos you will see a patent date of 1865 that is on one of the arms that holds the mattress in place. This is simply a wonderful piece of furniture and history during a time of pride of craftsmanship when things simply were not disposable and has thus survived this long for that very reason. This item is for local pickup only ... morethough if you have a shipper to pick it up I can arrange to have it on a dock but I cannot crate it either. Worth the drive to pick up yourself! Unusual Antique Free-Standing Murphy Bed This unit is from a California"Gold Country" hotel where it was used by the night clerk as a bed. Dresser for clothes and a desk to do business. The unit measures 80" high by 56" wide by 32" deep at its base. When not in use it sits against a wall as a piece of antique furniture with a mirror. 3 drawers and a desk in the upper portion and a full-width drawer in the lower portion. It sits on wheels. To use as a bed the unit rolls to be perpendicular to the wall and the bed drops down from the back.
