Incredible American Federal Style bed. Likely 1870's. Very sturdy, not squeaking or wiggling, rails attach to head and foot with very tight fit. Rails are very heavy, super tall, just a super looking piece. You can see from teh back of the headboard, it is hand chamferred. I believe it is solid walnut, but may be oak. accomodates a standard full size mattress. Includes Head, Foot, rails, and slats. Slats are new wood slats. I am located in Birmingham. AL. You are looking at a stunning. Rare antique solid oak with Burl Walnut Jacobean refectory/dining table and chairs. The table is pre 1879 and is from England. It has Barley twist legs and self-enclosed leaves/extenders. It is in excellent condition. The chairs have only been recovered. But the finish is original to our knowledge(we've owned these pieces for over 40 years) Extending boards are in perfect working order. The table measures 40" wide and just under 64" long. Each extender is 28" long. Making this table a generous and spacious 120" 10 ft. long when extended! The chairs are 2 different designs. 3 of each design. Details: An antique c.1840-1870 handmade solid walnut rope bed. The bed has been converted from being a rope bed. Holes plugged, and fitted with newer solid wood rails to accommodate a full-size mattress set. The headboard and footboard are identical in size and style. Each one is made using two walnut panels, topped by a rolling pin crest, flanked by low, solid posts that feature mushroom-cap finials. The finish is original. Showing age appropriate patina, more so to the footboard where the finish is lighter along the top due to blankets being hung over it for many years. The overall condition is very good, only issues to report are minor scuffs and an old split in one wood panel on the footboard, wood contracting? Somebody has made sure this little bed will go with any color. I'm positive under that paint is some really beautiful oak and judging by the saw marks on the bottom and top of the legs. I'm pretty certain it is homemade. I doubt a company would have tried to sell the bed with the saw marks still on the bed. You can paint it a different color or strip the paint off and see some beautiful oak or leave it as is. It's good and solid, well built. The carving of the bed is exquisite and is on the Headboard. The Footboard, and the Side rails. The measurements are as follows: Height of Headboard: 68 inches/ Height of footboard 35 inches on ends, 31 inches in center. Width of Headboad: 63 inches at widest point, 52 inches at sideboards. Width of Footboard 64 1/2 inches at widest point. Length of side rails: 76 inches The bed currently has a double box spring and mattress. Since the box spring rises above the side rails it easily could accommodate a queen size mattress. This is a very beautiful bed in wonderful condition.
