Here is an extremely rare opportunity to buy a true southern plantation style bed. Circa 1840's- 1850's, with gorgeous high back crotch mahogany headboard and four posts, nine feet tall with their finials in place. The overall measurements of this bed are 85 inches long by 71 inches wide at it's furthest points. It will fit a full size corner cut mattress as the internal dimensions within the frame measure 75 inches long by 61 inches wide. As I outline above in my condition description, the bed is designed to travel in parts and I attempt to show the construction in my multiple pictures. FANTASTIC AMERICAN GOTHIC CROTCH MAHOGANY 4 POST BED CIRCA 1850 BEAUTIFUL
This is a wonderful American Gothic style mahogany and crotch mahogany 4 post bed circa 1850. The headboard slides into hooks that attach to the tall head post. This is a very impressive bed with the head post measuring 83" tall and 16" around. They are octagon shaped. The headboard itself is a little lower than the post measuring 78" high. The overall width is 62" from post to post and the headboard is 49" wide. The bed is 79 1/2" long. The foot post are 57 1/2" tall and octagon shaped also at 16" round. A full size mattress and boxspring fits the bed nicely. A good thing about the bed is that the bottom of the boxspring is 17" off the floor and the top of the mattress is 35" from the floor. I like mattresses that sit high off the floor. There is one flaw that can be seen in the photos. For ... moresome unexplained reason the left headboard gothic point has pulled back from the headboard. It is made in one piece with the headboard meaning it does not come off like a finial. I have no idea how this could have occured. It was like this when I bought it. It dosn't bother me but the flaw needs to be disclosed. The finish appears to be original so there are some scuffs and nicks as seen in the pics. The bed breaks down into 9 pieces for easy transport. Bedding and mattress are not included in the sale. You are bidding on an antique bed circa 1878. Beautiful word work. Hardware says 1878. So we are assuming it is all from that year. We purchased this from an antique store several years ago and it was missing a leg. My husband is an expert wood craftsman and matched the leg perfectly. I challenge you to identify the replaced leg. Also included, would be the foam mattress we had custom made. We were told that back then, they used straw or other materials to fill large cloth bags for the mattress. The bed size is odd and a double mattress is too big, twin is too small, so we had a foam one made. We also have a mattress cover for it. It is all included. 3 piece Victorian Eastlake bedroom set consisting of headboard. Footboard, side rails, marble top dresser with mirror, and marble top commode/vanity. The nightstand in the picture is not part of the set, but would be willing to work a deal if you were interested in it. I don't know much about antique furniture, this has been lovingly used in our family since it was acquired in the 1930's. It probably dates back to the 1890's, and everything is in its original state since we have owned it, I cannot tell before that. I think the wood is mahogany. The drawers are dovetailed. The headboard is an impressive 84" tall and 54" wide. And 79" long. The bed uses a 3/4 size mattress. Mattress and box springs included if desired) The footboard is 36" high. The dresser is 90" tall. The bed floats in the middle-room for maximum ventilation during the summer months. And it hooks together with square connections. The headboard has spindles and slides into the posts. Fabulous. Decorative, Antique Iron Bed. Back when this bed was handmade, there existed"double bed mattress size" In the current day, a full size box spring and mattress fit it beautifully. In fact, for just an additional $50.00, I am offering the quality box spring and mattress set I used for just two years. I found that rather than using the cross slats, it was better to screw the box spring to the outer rails. Please see photos. I am moving and had much in this particular room today. Thus. Regal Classic American Empire Solid Mahogany Tall Poster Bed~Circa 1830 Being offered for sale is this American Empire Solid Mahogany and Crotch Mahogany Tall Post Bed circa 1830. This early 19th century bed has a commanding presence with is four tall massive octagon shaped bed posts of solid mahogany. The head-board features a shaped carved crest of crotch mahogany with a recess panel of crotch mahogany at the center. This fine bed bolts together very tight and sturdy. The only apology I can find for this nearly 200 year old bed would be a small chip on the inside of one of the posts near the top(see last pic) and the inset panel of the head-board has a slight age shrinkage crack neither of which is very noticeable unless very close inspection and not an issue of the sturdiness of the bed. Victorian carved oak full bed circa 1890
This exquisitely carved Victorian solid Oak full bed always gets a"Wow" The bed itself is 81" long and 62" wide. The headboard is 85" high and the foot board is 36" high. There are side boards and it fits a full sized mattress. It has side rails one of which is missing one piece on the top of the railing in one corner. There are a few scratches but otherwise this beautiful piece is in great condition. There is a board at the bottom of the headboard that has slipped that needs to be tapped back into place. Up for bid is an antique rope bed from the 19th century. It has a beautiful aged patina to it. I believe it is made from maple but not 100% sure. It does have some age cracks on a couple posts which I have shown in photos. But seems to be structurally sound. Solid Walnut Circa 19th Century 3/4 Bed w/ Matching Trundle Bed Made in NC
The bed was once a rope bed. Both the 3/4 and trundle bed has been restored by local restoration specialist who could also repair the worn place shown on right top. Foot board turn at your expense. The bed looks fine without being refinished. I put a bright light on the area so you would be able to see it well. It was caused by many of our 48 family members who have all spent their time jumping onto bed pushing it into the wall growing up. The caster wheels were put on the bed by my Great, Great Aunt Mary in Woodland, NC to make the bed easier to move to change the linens. As a child we would run with all our might, jumping onto the two step, step stool, hurling our young bodies through the air as if we were flying. We would land with the sound of a big puff of air being pushed through the feathers in the safety of the soft, thick, downed ... moremattress. That landing was as if I was being caught in the gigantic safe, strong, catchers mit God who watched over us as we slept. Three generations and my immediate family's 18 grandchildren and 2 great grand children have outgrown the beds. Colonial Antique Rope Bed- double size- circa 1840 Very good antique condition; finish shows some signs of wear as shown in photos. Pick up only because of the size. Location is NW of Chicago. Illinois. Been in my family for about five generations. With each owner taking care to preserve its historical significance. My ancestors lived in the Columbus, Ohio, area and I believe the bed may have been made in Pennsylvania. This is a great purchase for anyone looking to showcase Colonial America with authenticity in their home. As best as I can figure from family history. This rope bed was constructed, prior to 1840, since it utilizes one of the earlier American methods for roping. The furniture maker bore holes in the rail frames to fasten the rope. This is probably the sturdiest method and caused less strain on the wood as opposed to a later ... moremethod that roped around pegs. Presently I have a double mattress directly on top of the roping which seems quite secure. Should you desire to switch out the rope. Suitable line is readily available at hardware stores, and specific directions are online. It's easy to retain the early American look in your home by using a down comforter as I have done. The bed is in a bedroom I have devoted to family history and has been well cared for and maintained. From my research I feel the uniqueness. Quality and condition set the value around $1,000. This full size Jenny Lind bed is in good condition considering its age. It has it's share if gouges and scratches special inside and outside the base boards. The actual spindles and head and foot of the bed looks pretty good except for one curved one that is cracked(see photo) The mattress area measures approx 53" by 77" Headboard is 38" tall by 53" and the foot measures 34" tall by 53" I have it listed for pick up only but I would be willing to take it somewhere to get boxed and shipped if you made the arrangements and payment. This intricately carved walnut double bed was purchased by my parents in France in the mid-1950's. The style is typical of beds crafted in France at the turn of the 20th century. While stored. There was some water damage to one leg and to the footboard, which is pictured. The bed comes with mattress, springs, vintage lace pillow shams and European pillows. Here is a very nice and early sheraton baby bed. Vivid tiger maple spindles and rails with turned cherry posts. One of the side rails is hinged and has the original brass sliding bolts mortised into the rail locking into the post. Circa 1820. Probably Pennsylvania. The triple arched headboard features a deeply carved grape cluster crest. On each side of the crest is wonderful scrolled carvings. The inset panels feature feathered walnut. Eight sided post are topped with large carved finials. The rails are large and impressive with decorative brackets at each end. The foot-board also has the decorative brackets and feathered walnut. This is a solid heavy bed in beautiful condition. Apologies~there is a small hole in the rail at the foot-board end(photo 2) maybe dime size. In photo 4 there is a small piece of the carved finial missing at the foot. You will need to enlarge the photos to see this.
