Somewhere along the line. Like they did back in the 1960s and 1970s, they did the rails over and lengthened it out to take a full size modern size box spring and mattress. This one has the crown on top and I think the wood is tulip wood, but it came out of the Midwest and I am not as familiar with the Midwest woods as I am the east coast woods. The pictures will show you what you are buying. It is an early canopy poster bed that has been adapted for a modern day box spring and mattress. It comes with a crown molded top, four extra tall multi turn posts, headboard shield and adapted side rails to give you the right length for a modern day mattress. The finish is a cherry brown. It used to be a rope bed, but it has been adapted to a modern day box spring and mattress. It comes with a canopy linen on the top and underneath the rails and the front. The overall size is 58 inches wide and 93 inches high. The size of the crown on top is approximately 8.5 inches. The inside dimensions for mattress purposes is 55 inches wide by 75 inches tall. Old hand made bolts and mortise and tenon joints hold this antique Cuban mahogany carved headboard and simple foot board.all with fabulous thick carved bedposts and very thick at 4 3/4" and original rails.together. Maple 1840 Antique Queen Size Empire Poster Bed. Removable Canopy. Hand carved about 1840 as a"rope" bed with a removable canopy. This American Empire period antique was expertly adapted to fit a standard modern queen size mattress as shown. Solid maple. The satiny finish is in excellent condition. Original side rails with holes for stringing a rope"spring" were extended. An upholstered pallet or"bunky board" is included to use instead of a spring unit, photos show a standard queen size mattress that is 10" thick. Delicate and well proportioned posts are beautifully hand carved with a spiral motif on this historic furniture. Large bolts secure this bed together. They have brass covers. Antique Four Poster Bed with Canopy, Ball and Claw Feet
Not sure if this is full or queen size. It measures 57" wide and posters stand 87" tall. The only issues are the one side going into poster meeting the head board a chip of wood is missing. And a piece of canopy wooden trim is held together with some tape. Probably just needs gluing, can't see it with canopy on it. If you'd like more close up photos let em know.
