The history of the rope bed is tightly woven with the history of the mattress and the four-poster bed. Most of the four-poster beds were rope beds. ANTIQUE CIRCA 1840'S 9 FT TALL SOUTHERN PLANTATION 4 POST HIGH BACK MAHOGANY BED
Here is an extremely rare opportunity to buy a true southern plantation style bed. Circa 1840's- 1850's, with gorgeous high back crotch mahogany headboard and four posts, nine feet tall with their finials in place. The overall measurements of this bed are 85 inches long by 71 inches wide at it's furthest points. It will fit a full size corner cut mattress as the internal dimensions within the frame measure 75 inches long by 61 inches wide. As I outline above in my condition description, the bed is designed to travel in parts and I attempt to show the construction in my multiple pictures. The footboard posts appear to have been designed to travel in two parts as the headboard posts do easily, but I have not been able to separate them. Tall queen antique spool walnut 4 four post poster bed
For sale is a 1890s- 1910 spool 4 post bed. I believe the wood is walnut. The finials are pineapples. Fits a queen mattress but is a little short for the mattress. I bought a foam mattress and cut off about 1.5 inches at the foot of the bed. If not using foam you will have to have one specially made or use double size mattress. Very tall and striking! Original finish and very sturdy. Measures 90" tall. 62" wide, 80" deep. Pick up only 30 miles west of Chicago in Oswego IL.

Magnificent Parisian Louis XVI Style Mahogany Belle Epoque Era* to start a new paragraph use- Offered for sale is this absolutely magnificent antique Parisian Bed. The bed is most likely one of the best we have ever owned. It could be as early as Napoleon III.But more like from the end of the late 1800's or 1900. The quality, design and construction of this bed suggest that a furniture maker such as Paul Sormani, Henry Dasson or Francois Linke; the bed is of this quality. One example is in the detail, expense and pride of construction. With special note to the bronze trim. The bronze is not solid, but is wrapped on wood trim then pressed and conformed to shape; it is just amazing. There are 4 different shapes and sizes. The fluted columns are no exception; attached bronze or brass in the flutes and shaped bronze or brass over the turned ... morecapitals and plinths. The gorgeous mahogany wood has a subtle grain pattern with a mellow patina. The color is magnificent and allows the trim to stand out. The size will accommodate an American full standard mattress, with some width to spare.Condition: The bolted rails are as tight as when they were new! The original finish is VERY GOOD with a soft shine. The brass still retains its original patina and has not been cleaned! There are some VERY MINOR restorations to the trim: a few tiny pieces on the back side of the headboard that do not show when it is set-up-The six decorative medallions are possible replacements, One flute on the inside of the footboard is missing, but due to the coloring you do not notice it. ANTIQUE FRENCH BED Twin Walnut Louis XVth Hand Carved Accents
Antique French Louis XVth bed. Twin size We are very pleased to be able to offer for your consideration this French Louis XVth bed. This Antique Louis XVth bed was brought over from France by the shop owners. It is made of Walnut. And has some beautiful carvings and trim accents. The feet are hand carved, as is accent piece centered on the top of the headboard. The craftsmanship is very impressive, I really like the way the clever design the builder built in, the rail to headboard, and footboard assemblies. The cap rail moulding on the headboard and footboard is beautiful, as are the gracefully curved appliqué trim accents, and the chevron veneers. The headboard measures 58 inches wide. 61 3/4 inches tall(including the carving) and the cap rail is 2 inches thick. The footboard measures 57 inches wide, 38 1/4 inches tall, and the cap ... morerail is 2 inches thick. The side bed rails are 73 3/4 inches long. This bed is an antique French short twin. So it will accommodate a mattress that measures 53 X 72 inches. Condition- The overall condition of this bed is good. But it is an antique, and as such there are a few issues. The most glaring is the attempted repair, and use of a white wood filler on the inside panel of the foot board, a skilled craftsperson could apply a matching veneer to cover this situation. There is a nonstructural crack in the footboard cap rail moulding located just about at it's center. And there is a, approximately 5 inch long, very narrow void between the footboard panel and the bottom of the cap rail(see pictures provided) On the head board there is a long diagonal depression on the upper right panel of the headboard(see pictures) There is also some warping in the veneer on the lower right portion of the headboard, that would be masked by the box spring and matress. And of coarse the non-standard size of the frame will require some modifications in order to accommodate a modern mattress. This Antique French bed frame is a very beautiful piece of furniture. Early 1800's Twin Bed Ball and Claw Foot Bedframe This is a historic bed easily dating back to early 1800's in the West Indie colonization time. Strong british influence. The exquisite craftsmanship, and the use of very early construction techniques points us to its very early origin. Beautiful dark West Indie mahogany wood was carved and constructed by hand. Its tier shaped headboard is masterfully carved with attention to detail in every scalloped edge. Horned posts at the end of the bed are carved with the same exquisite techniques. The bed stands strong on 4 hand-carved ball and claw foot feet. This piece has peeked the interest of many antique appraisers. This bed frame was put onto the examination table and weeks was spent going thru each and every crack. Bolt, pin hole and carving. Everything was hand done using raw saws. You ... morecan see raw saw blade cuts in the unexposed surfaces of the wood. 6 hand casted forged iron bolts were found on the bed frame dating back to early 1800s when blacksmiths used iron as the only means of metal available to forge into hardware for furniture assembly. During the early 1800's blacksmith's bolts were original designs and individual to each blacksmith. search the"country bed shop" in a search engine to find information and photos on the first bolt documented in the US in the tab history of beds) The wood bed frame is assembled with wooden pins. The artist who sculpted the furniture was very skilled in his craft and every detail was done by their own hand using wooden carving tools. The claw feet are large in scale and very proportionate to the bed. The Bed frame is incredibly old and rare to be found in this fair condition. The legs show minor scratches however are missing a few chips of wood here and these. The headboard has been reinforced over the years by a simple"V" brace constructed from wood with modern day screws(the only modern screw in the whole bed frame are the few used to anchor the brace to the back of the headboard. Antique 1800's Cannon Ball Rope Bed Very early 1800's antique rope bed, I believe made of maple wood. With cannon ball posts. The bed is very sturdy and is in very good condition. It appears to be handmade, with excellent craftsmanship, however, it is very old, and does have scuffs, scratches, and cracks typical of antique post beds of this age. All pieces of the bed, including the head board, foot board, and two rails are original. The bed can be put together and also taken apart very easily, and the frame has multiple holes ready for roping. A great piece for any situation.

ANTIQUE UNUSUAL AND LOVELY EMBROIDERED COVERLET FOR TWIN BED
Straight from a Vermont estate. We have never seen a coverlet quite like this one. Our guess is that it dates from about 1900- 1920. The size of the coverlet is 88 inches x 64 inches. So it is for a twin bed and looks wonderful on one. The fabric of the coverlet seems to be a light cotton that has a homemade look. The embroidery of bluebirds and flowers is all over. But what is so intriguing is the all-over white embroidery that covers the white surface of the fabric. So the entire coverlet is totally covered in two different types of embroidery. And if that is not enough, there is a wonderful hand-made fringe that goes all around three of the four sides. The condition seems to be just about perfect. No odors or stains.

Along with a wonderful design, that all come together to make a really beautiful set. The bed is 57 inches wide on the inside, and 78 inches long, which makes it somewhere between a full and queen, and is just one great quality bed. It has a big raised panel headboard with jewel-like wreaths carved into both side panels, a fleur-de-lis ribbon molded top and the same design on the curved footboard. The bed set looks like it is made of cherry or yew wood, and is a cherry brown color. It has bolt-in side rails that are a good 12 inches wide, very sturdy and stylish. The dresser has an oversized beveled glass square mirror that swivels, a delicate little fretwork carved heart, multi-molded panel sides on the dresser base, dovetail drawers with heavy bold brass, and is just a great high-quality set. Dresser has original rose colored marble top, original beveled mirror and original brass hardware. Brass bolts holding mirror in frame will not tighten. Dresser has 4 drawers with dovetail construction and poplar secondary wood. Walnut chest is 52 in. high, 32 in. wide and 21 in. deep. Chest has 6 drawers with dovetail construction and poplar secondary wood. Chest does not match bed and dresser but goes well together. Total weight is about 300 lbs. 1800's Hand Made Antique Queen Rope Bed - NY Cherry Wood
Beautiful Handmade Queen Cherry Wood Rope Bed from Cherry Creek. NY. It was modified to add a foot to accommodate taller people. See#8 photo) It was made in the late 1800's. Owned by my Great Grandmother Louise Parsons. Her father was the first physician in the Forestville NY area. It is Colonial style. There are some cracks and scuffs. But the bed is structurally sound. Length of mattress area 76" Width of mattress area is 45 3/8" Longest width 52" Height 44 1/4" Length 84" It is very pretty overall. But it does have some wear and minor scratches on it- consistent with the age of the piece. The white lines on the the lower joints are cracks. three of the four are cracked but the wood is still attached and quite rigid and strong. The cracks can be glued and clamped. Or just filled and sanded. The cracks are most ... morelikely from the wood swelling and shrinking from moisture. The boards used are wide and thick. And do flex with time. Like I said before.
