The carvings. Period details and burl walnut accents on this 19th century desk are just beautiful and this desk is definitely heirloom quality.a beautiful statement piece for your home! This fine desk measures 45 1/2 inches in height to the top of the gallery at the back.Height to the top at the front measures 46 inches, with a total width of 48 inches, total depth of 26 inches and this desk weighs approximately 200 lbs. The pull out writing surface measures 41 inches wide by 21 inches deep and height from the floor to the top of the writing surface measures 30 inches. The knee hole height of the desk portion measures 25 1/4 inches and knee-hole width measures 18 3/4 inches. The cylinder portion of this desk raises and lowers very smoothly and has a large brass lock mechanism on the bottom which is marked: Indianapolis Cab. Co Pat. The lock is intact but we do not have the key. The inner desk portion is beautiful maple with a multitude of various sizes of storage drawers and cubbies.The old green felt on the pull out writing surface appears original and does show some wear and some spots. The left offers a stack of four storage drawers with period dove-tailed ends and the original pulls. To the right another drawer is found with a storage cabinet below. The lock is missing from the cabinet door. As you can see in the pictures this desk could easily be in the center of a room for it is as lovely on the back as the front and is finished beautifully all the way around. It appears to have been repaired at some point. top can be opened with a small screwdriver inserted and sliding sideways from left to right. The second side opens easily with a fingernail. Revealing a second wood panel. This second panel is removable by pulling up the small side wall that houses the inkwell. This action releases the wood panel below& within there are two secret compartment drawers. These hidden drawers are seen in photos. One brass inlay is missing at one bottom corner. No key. It has many useful ... morefeatures including ample storage and an extendable writing surface. There are storage cabinets on the side panels and at the back of the knee hole space. The interior drawers above the writing surface are all functional. When the writing surface is extended, a row of faux drawers is revealed. The drawers on either side of the knee hole are locked until the writing surface is extended slightly and then the mechanism unlocks. Overall this desk is in great condition. There are a few damaged spots in the burled walnut veneer (see pictures), and a couple of splits in some of the side panels (see pictures). All of these blemishes are caused by use and age, and do not affect the function.

It has the original heavy bold brass hardware, and is in really nice shape. The pull-out writing surface has green felt on it. When you open the double panel cylinder roll, it reveals a simplistic double drawer interior that is simplistic.

For your consideration, this wonderful solid Walnut Victorian C-Roll Top Desk with Burl Accents(Circa: 1880) This handsome Desk weighs approximately 240 pounds and measures 45 ¾” in total height, 30 ¾” in height from the floor to the top of the writing surface, 48” in width, and 29” in depth. The details on this desk are understated and elegant. The C-roll top is graced with fluted moulding on the sides and opens to reveal the interior compartment. The interior compartment consists of seven storage slots and two small fluted drawers along with two ebonized pen/pencil holders and a green felt writing surface. The base of this wonderful desk consists of five drawers that are adorned with lovely fluted moulding and burl-clad pulls. Outstanding Victorian walnut cylinder desk. This intricately detailed piece has definite Eastlake influences including a decorative grid pattern that borders the panelled sides and back and elaborate scroll decoration below the writing surface. Cylinder top conceals pigeon holes and a pull-out writing surface covered in emerald green felt. Brass hinges. Diamond-shaped escutcheons and rosette-mounted bail handle drawer pulls. One long shallow top drawers as well as three half-size drawers and a generous cabinet space. Dowel construction throughout including the drawers, top and back. The locking mechanisms in the drawers have two patent dates- April, 1875 and August, 1882. No maker's marks. Over all this piece is in very good condition. Especially considering its age. One of the back feet looks like it has been repaired. See picture. There ... moreare also some cracks or seperations in the wood, probably caused by drying, most notably in the scroll on the right side and on the side just above it. Also pictured. This is a beautiful solid black walnut slant top writing desk. Circa 1810.The figured walnut top is very rich and beautiful with its grain patterns,rich walnut tones and beauty marks. I rescued this diamond in the rough. It had many many coats of white paint hiding this beautiful black walnut wood. I lovingly& meticulously hand restored this desk back to full glory. I restored the finish with many. Many coats of hand rubbed shellac, maintaining the antique warm glow, rubbed to a silky smooth yet allowing the beautiful grain textures to be felt.There was a trim around the back of the top which was missing, I custom made this new back rail trim using reclaimed 200 year old black walnut. The drawer pulls are from a 200 year old dresser and are solid walnut hand carved pulls. The harp shaped end is gorgeous as you can easily see with its ... morecone shaped finial on the end of the hand turned support which joins it to the drawer base.The slant top is fixed in position. There is no lid that lifts up, this was designed as a writing desk, dating back to the quill pen days. There is an age shrinkage split in the top which I chose not to restore. It gives great character to this lovely piece. The drawer locks are missing.I restored all the drawers, carefully taking them all apart and regluing them all and now they are rock solid and slide excellently. Full depth drawers with lots of storage.The desk is finished on all sides, allowing it to be placed anywhere in a room. The recessed flat panel sides are a great design. Adding to the beauty. I purposefully left some character marks remain in this desk such as tiny chip of wood,left top edge) pinholes etc, they give this desk awesome character, I was not trying to create a reproduction piece I try and respect the antique with all of its age, history and character. This is a solid walnut carved art- nouveau/craftsman- styled desk which is finished on all four sides. I am estimating it was made between 1895-1915. When this style was gaining popularity. However, this kind of desk is extremely RARE. Especially since it is finished on all four sides. The very first photo has the front finished side with the five drawers/cabinets, and the other side has the identical carvings but with no drawers(last photo listed) There are also two different close-ups of either side of the most carved part, photos 2 and 7. The very first picture is a photo of the desk without the red felt covering, which was replaced recently after it was discovered through restoration work that the original top of the desk was red felt originally. This desk was bought at an auction of an old Pasadena home, where it"lived" for ... morea great number of years. There is slight peeling of the top walnut veneer but it can be easily repaired. That dates from the 1880 era. ... moreIt has been completely stripped, re-glued, refinished, the canvas roll has been all re-canvassed, and we had to re-fabricate one handle(bet you can’t tell which one when you see the desk! Any molding damaged was replaced, any panels that were damaged were replaced, any wood damaged or ink-stained was replaced– we do one heck of a job when we go through a desk! The interior has burl walnut pencil trays and cubby drawers, and the original letter holders on both sides of the desk. We’ve even replaced the felt insert with the original factory dark green color. It has an applied beveled edge base, and a finished off back. We always put a reproduction roll-top lock in, which will be done before shipping. The overall size is 54 inches wide, 36 inches deep, 30 inches high to the writing surface from the floor, and 50 inches high to the top of the desk. This is one gorgeous piece of wood. It is burled walnut and is from the early 1800s. It is a lap desk or maybe used as a bed tray. It is 32" long and 14" tall. It is in really nice condition. You can obviously tell it is a true antique but I don't see any chips on the edges, etc. Please ask if you have questions. Offered for auction is this very nice circa 1870's-1880'sWalnut Victorian Eastlake style drop front secretary/bookcase. Top of secretary has a spindle like crown pediment over the glazed doors. Adjustable shelves for books or displaying glassware. This top part of the cabinet is removeable. The desk has a large carved design on the front of the fall front desk top and opens to reveal pigeon holes. Slots and two small drawers within the desk itself. The fall front provides a large writing surface. The desk portion sits over a full width single drawer with two half width drawers and a cupboard base w/ door underneath. All drawer fronts have applied rectangular panels with walnut burl veneer covering the entire panels. Real Nice C.1870's Slant Front Desk We are pleased to offer this Early Victorian Circa 1870's Slant Front Desk in Dark Oak. It has all the original brass hardware. Three drawers and one small lower cabinet. There are nice floral carvings on the top drawer and on the Slant Front door. The drawers do open and close smoothly. There is an old slide lock which seams to have been added a very long time ago to keep the Slant Front door closed. On the inside there are 16 various size compartments and one small drawer. All drawers are dovetailed. The writing area has a leather surface but is worn with some rips to it and should be replaced. It is usable as is but we can replace it for you for an additional $175.00 if you wish. The desk overall is very solid and in very good condition with no movement whatsoever. All of the drawers and doors have locks. All of the locks work. The interior has 7 pigeon hole cubby holes and 2 slide out drawers. The writing desk area slides out very nicely and is SOLID! There are 3 drawers and one cabinet door on the front. The top drawer is an EIGHTH barrel front and opens smoothly. The other 2 drawers work great.
