Thick, rugged, and heavy, this piece has an ovoid shape with a wide midsection. ... moreIt has a gorgeous blend of colors including mustard, brown, and greens. The glaze& oxides were somehow applied in a manner where it didn't adhear in certain places and other parts were not glazed at all, including the bottom. In other areas the glaze is drizzled or running downward. When fired, interesting characteristics were created including mottling and a speckled effect. The unglazed red portions have an original, grungy patina that's the result of past use, places it was kept, and the passage of time. Oddly enough. There's some sort of slip decoration on the front, under the spout, that is difficult to discern. It probably was a name or some sort of writing and part of a date where a mistake was made and the entire piece was glazed over in this unique manner to cover it up. It looks like a capital letter C with a last name under it, followed by 1874 or 1879, perhaps. The way the piece was glazed as well as wear and tear makes it very difficult to make out. In fact, we didn't really notice the writing until after viewing one of the photos while posting this auction. It's an interesting peak into the history of this old pitcher and perhaps if you are skilled, you may be able to determine what it says under that glaze. Regardless. This is a very attractive piece of pottery that also has decorative incised bands, an applied handle, a charming country-style shape, and of course its very nice coloring. It measures 10 1/4 inches high while the diameter of the bottom is 4 1/8 inches. The opening of the pitcher is 5 1/4 inches including the spout and the widest point in the middle is 7 1/2 inches. It weighs over 4 pounds. We found no cracks or hairlines, only some old pitting on the interior that isn't structurally significant. There is surface wear and loss of glaze but nothing that detracts from its beauty. This piece is still even

This lovely porcelain pitcher has a detailed hand painted scene of flowering trees. Hills, and cottages beside a cool stream, with little dusky patches in the sky. The painting of small details is carefully done, rather than the slashes of paint sometimes seen in oriental scenes; and some of the blossoms on the trees are dotted with white moriage(raised dots of paint) There is also gold on the rim and handle. The words“Hand Painted Made in Japan” are on the bottom with the torri back stamp(Gate of Honor) But it is very faint so I’ve included a photo of a clearer one from a saucer. The collar, handle, spout, bottom border feature a high relief design. Considering the pot is more than one hundred years old. It is in very good condition. Antique Majolica Small Corn Pitcher
Antique Majolica small corn pitcher in maize and green. Measuring approximately 5" tall. The width is approximately 4" from the tip of the spout to the outer edge of the handle. The green handle has striated lines that resemble those found in corn leaves. On each side of the handle, there are three corn leaves extending upward into the body of the corn kernels. Each leaf is striated. On the spout side. There is one long leaf that extends from the base to the tip of the sport. It is also striated. The pitcher has a semi-bulbous shape that gentle slopes to the narrow footed base. The bottom of the base has 3 stilt marks. There is a 9 or 6 under glaze that was written by hand. There are no cracks or crazing. There is a very small chip on the underside edge of the base( approximately 3/8" long by approximately 1/4" deep) that ... moredoes not affect the stability of the pitcher. I have not been able to identify the maker of this piece. If you are a majolica collector this is a very nice piece to add to your collection. If you like pitchers. This would be a fun addition. This is a pristine example of the masters art. It is unique and in mint condition with the exception of a small flea bite on the upper rim and a very small hairline on the upper lip about 1 inch long. These are very small so I hope the photos show them. In my opinion these blemishes do not detract from display. The pitcher measuers 7 inches tall with a 3 3/8 inch base. I Pack Professionally.

Then in 1877 he bought the porcelain factory that had been established by Jouhanneaud and Dubois in Rue du Petit-Tour(Limoges) And which had been bought in 1867 by the Utzschneider Company of Saurregemines and run by Leopold Dubois. This enlarged company produced a wide range of wares, selling a lot of whiteware and also continuing decoration. Guerin's sons William and Andre joined the company in 1903. In 1911 W. Iroquiois Iron Stone Pitcher
This is a wonderful iron stone pitcher made by Iroquois China of Syracuse New York has very nice details. This is a heavy piece. It has a scalloped opening and well carved handle. There is a markers flaw on the top that shows as a black mark on the top right before the top rim begins. There is some grazing on the pour spout also but all in all it’s in great shape. The pitcher stands about 9 inches tall at the highest part. Elegant Antique White Pitcher~Royal Ironstone~Johnson Bros England
Tall water pitcher standing 12.5" from base to the flower on the handle tip. No major flaws of cracks or chips evident. There's a very small manufacturing flaw under the glaze near the base and one fleck of wood ash on the side. Yes, these beautiful antique pieces were produced with heat from an open wood fire. When held to a strong light, there's evidence of very light minor scratching. Johnson Brothers began manufacturing in 1883 in the Staffordshire district in the Hanley settlement and this would have been one of their earliest patterns as this tall, slim with rounded base style was produced in the 1880s and 1890s. Beautiful antique Staffordshire syrup pitcher. Note the markings on the base. White ironstone with gold overlay flowers and grapes. Very unique handle reminiscent of tree branches. There is some slight staining on the interior and exterior of the syrup due to whatever was stored in it. There is also a very small crack on the inside of the syrup which does not come through to the exterior(see photos) Measures approximately 8" X 3" across the base. Thought it may be ironstone but possibly just a very heavy ceramic. Hallmarked c 1890 Boch Freres Majolica Plate with Pewter Surround
This c 1890s Boch Freres hand painted plate features the famous canal scene depicted on later transfer plates produced by their majolica factory. When compared to the transfer plates produced in the early1900s. You will see the various differences between that and this hand painted version in the stylized border, irregular circular banding, and in small painting details themselves. Founded in 1841 by Eugene and Victor Boch of La Louviere in eastern Belgium. The company created orginal majolica delft blue and white ceramics. The Boch brothers hired Dutch men from Delft and Maastricht, who brought their skills and emphasis on hand painted, rather than printed patterns and designs. The brothers expressed the influence of Chinese ceramics, producing blue and white majolica, many with a Chinese subject or border. The hand painted signature of ... morethis plate indicates a late 1890s production. Later plates have various printed labels. In the early 1900s. The company began mass producing replicas of their original wares using transfer polychrome techniques. In 1989, the company was purchased by Le Hodey, affiliated with Villeroy& Boch, which went bankrupt in 2009. The pewter surround was added later as a decorative accent. And can easily be removed as desired. The plate measures 9" in diameter, 11.5" with the pewter surround. This is a wonderful early hand painted plate in mint condition. There are no chips or cracks.
