This creamy white Ironstone cranberry jelly, pudding, and/or aspic mold is in great condition for its age and utilitarian usage. This is a rare pattern versus the common corn and sheaf of wheat motif. The mold is 8 1/8 inches long. 6 5/8 inches wide and 4 1/2 inches high. It has thick walled sides 1/2 to ¼ inches thick. There is a maker’s mark stamped into the base but is illegible. It weighs over 3 pounds. Ironstone was first made in 1813. It was more durable than porcelain and became popular during the mid-19th century. Both English and American potteries made ironstone. Much of the English ironstone was exported to the United States. There is one small chip on the lip of the rim. No cracks. Although. There is light brown discoloration(patina) on the inside and out from high baking temperatures from coal or wood burning ovens. The outside has light brown areas as well. It does have areas of crazing to the glaze. Though none of the above compromise the stability of the piece nor its value. I have other Victorian food molds(moulds) from my collection presently listed on eBay. This one I purchased in 1997 at Heeltappers Antiques in Marblehead. MA. This mold will be an asset to your country kitchen(I now have a mid century modern house) The images are to be view carefully and carry more weight than the verbal description and remembering that antique items have had a long. Hi up for sale is this lot of 3 antique ironstone soap dishes. The one on the left is 4" x 3 3/8" Has a big chip on the bottom. Has some other very small chips and flea bites. bottom is marked Thomas Furnival& Son with a big logo of a lion and unicorn. The dish in the middle is 4 1/2" x 3 3/4" has some gold accent. Has some chipping and crazing, marked TNT with a griffin on the bottom. THe one on the right is 4 1/2" x 3 1/2" has gold trim and flowers. This auction features a great antique Royal Ironstone Wash Set. This set consists of a Large Pitcher(12 3/4" tall) and Bowl(14 1/2" across and 5" deep) A Smaller Pitcher(7 3/4" tall) a Vase(5 3/4" tall) a Shaving Mug(4" tall) and a round Soap Dish(4 3/4" with the insert. This set is in nice shape. It has no chips or cracks that we can find. It does show crazing. Some wear to the gold trim, and some discoloration on the inside of the bowl, all visible in the pictures. GD, Old Antique Cockson & Seddon White Ironstone Pitcher, 1 Pint? Size
Here's another of the old or antique ironstone pieces we've been listing recently. This one is a relatively thick pitcher that probably is meant to hold about 1 pint. It has some slight signs of use and light shadowing and some spotty areas of the glaze as noted above and in the pictures. No cracks or breaks to note. Antique White Ironstone Pitcher & Bowl - Niagara Shape - Copper Lustre - c.1856
Offered is a gorgeous. Matching, White Ironstone Bowl& Pitcher in the Niagara Shape. This shape features wonderful embossing below the spout of the pitcher, and a series of fan shapes around the base of the pitcher and inner rim of the bowl. Both are beautifully outlined with copper lustre. They were produced by Edward Walley in Cobridge, England, and registered in November, 1856. Both pieces retain his impressed mark with the shape name. The bowl has a small chip on the underside rim and a tight hairline on the side of the bowl. The pitcher has spider lines on the bottom; one that goes a very short way up from the base. The pitcher also has a couple of pinpoint marks on the body from production. Elegant Antique White Pitcher~Royal Ironstone~Johnson Bros England
Tall water pitcher standing 12.5" from base to the flower on the handle tip. No major flaws of cracks or chips evident. There's a very small manufacturing flaw under the glaze near the base and one fleck of wood ash on the side. Yes, these beautiful antique pieces were produced with heat from an open wood fire. When held to a strong light, there's evidence of very light minor scratching. Johnson Brothers began manufacturing in 1883 in the Staffordshire district in the Hanley settlement and this would have been one of their earliest patterns as this tall, slim with rounded base style was produced in the 1880s and 1890s. Beautiful antique Staffordshire syrup pitcher. Note the markings on the base. White ironstone with gold overlay flowers and grapes. Very unique handle reminiscent of tree branches. There is some slight staining on the interior and exterior of the syrup due to whatever was stored in it. 13" Tall Large Crazed White w/Pink Stripe Warranted Ironstone Pitcher w/repair
13" tall x 8" across heavily crazed white with pink stripe large water pitcher. I do not have the bowl if there was one. Which I'm sure there was. This looks beautiful with the crazing. It's all consistent and adds, I believe, to the piece. There is a nice pink stripe painted across pitcher and a wonderful mold relief(see pic. 4) I was just looking at the mold relief on the handle, and noticed the repair. It's wonderfully repaired. I wish I knew who did it. It is smooth, almost unnoticeable unless you happen to be selling it on Ebay and go over with magnifying glass with a strong light. There is a line of black around rim, five marks on handle, and long stripe down handle(see pic 2) Bottom is marked, Warranted Ironstone China" There are a couple bangs and dings in the bottom rim that's to be expected(see pic. ... more8) The hairline crack in on the right side if looking at the spout. Antique Ironstone Pitcher 1 Quart Size Fancy Embossing and Scrollwork Pedestal Base This is a pretty ironstone pitcher. Not huge but just the right size for the table- about 1 quart, standing 7 inches tall. It has a very attractive scrolled rim, and raised embossing around the outside of the rim, ribbing on the bottom half, a petal shaped base, and a fancy twig shaped handle. This is in very nice condition- no chips, cracks, or crazing. For accuracy, please see the picture of the underside of the piece- the glaze does not cover the entire underside, which accounts for the variation in color. This Henry Alcock& Company England Ironstone 1884 pitcher is in perfect condition. I bought it at an antique auction in Western Massachusetts. It is7" high at the spout. 5" wide on 2 sides, 4" wide on front and back(not including handle) Handle has beautiful detail. No cracks, chips or crazing. Looks as good as it did when it was made. Offered is a beautifully embossed White Ironstone Tall Pitcher or Ewer in the Hanging Basket Shape. This lovely pitcher is a more square shape with embossed flowers on a vine. Flowing from a hanging basket. It also has a ribbed handle with a beaded thumbrest. It was produced by Thomas Furnival& Sons in Cobridge, England circa the 1880's, and retains their mark. This piece has a tight. Light hairline on one side of the spout(see photos) and some light crazing. It is otherwise excellent with no chips. Lovely! Embossed White Creamer or Pitcher Royal Ironstone Charles Meakin 1870-82
From a cousin’s estate we have a WONDERFUL vintage embossed pitcher or creamer. It is white Ironstone made by Charles Meakin in England. This is a smaller cream pitcher with embossed flowers and possibly a ribbon on the backside by the handle. The top of the handle is ornate as well. The seam can be seen on the side- that is not a crack. There are speckles here and there under the glaze- kind of flaked blue or black. There are a couple small spots where the glaze is flaked off near the spout. No cracks and no chips. It is in extremely lovely condition for its age! See photos. Approximate measurements: 5-1/2" tall to handle and spout. 4-5/8" tall at middle, 5" from handle to spout, 2-7/8" across. The bottom is slightly oval measuring 2-3/4" x 2-1/5" across. Rare Antique Vintage Lewis H Meakin Ironstone China Pitcher
In about 1853. At age 28, Lewis Henry Meakin left a successful plumbing business to embark upon a china manufacturing business venture with John Farrall. The pottery and china industry was very competitive and their business on Cannon Street, Shelton, Stoke-upon-Trent, England, was short lived. They declared bankruptcy and closed their doors on August 3, 1855. It is not known how many pieces of china Lewis H. Meakin and John Farrall produced. But surviving pieces are extremely rare. Soon after the china business failure Lewis Henry Meakin moved his family to America, and lived out his remaining years in Ohio. His son, also Lewis Henry Meakin, born in 1850, was a fairly well-known US landscape painter. John Farrall went on to work at another china manufacturer in Stoke-upon-Trent, England. Lewis H Meakin Ironstone China is extremely rare. ... moreAnd to find a piece in good condition is rare indeed. This pitcher is one of the very few remaining pieces produced by Lewis H Meakin at the Ironstone China Company between 1853 and 1855, in Stoke-upon-Trent, England. The pitcher is approximately 9 inches tall. And 8 inches from the end of the spout to the end of the handle. The pitcher is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. The glaze is crazed on both the inside and the outside of the pitcher, which would be normal for a ceramic pitcher approaching 160 years old. A close up of the crazing is shown in the photo of the bottom of the pitcher. The pitcher is slightly stained on both the inside and the outside. The inside is more heavily stained, but not quite as dark as it appears in the photo of the inside. The best illustration of the true color of the pitcher is represented in the first picture. From the lack of wear on the base and the staining it would be easy to assume that this pitcher has spent most of its life on a shelf with dust laying on the inside for a long period of time.

History of Flow Blue: Flow Blue pottery and china is one of the most popular. Collectible ceramics in the United States antique market. More than 1500 Flow Blue patterns were produced in Victorian England, Germany, Holland, and the United States. The peak production was from the mid-eighteen hundreds ... moreto the early 1940's. Now it is again popular, but as a collectors' item rather than dinnerware. During the eighteenth century, English potters tried to copy Chinese porcelain, which was immensely popular with the upperclass British. They developed salt-glaze earthenware, which was whiter than other pottery, and which therefore looked more like porcelain.Around 1775, a new technique for decorating pottery called transfer printing was developed in Battersea and by Sadler& Green at Liverpool. In this process, a metal plate, most often copper, was deeply engraved with the desired design. Then paint was rubbed onto the warmed plate and excess paint was cut off with a palette knife. After being cleaned with a cloth called a boss, a piece of tissue-paper was dampened and pressed onto the plate. Next, the paper was lifted from the plate and set carefully onto the plate or other piece of pottery. After the design was rubbed in, the dish was placed in water where the tissue paper floated off, leaving the design. The piece was first heated slightly to dry the paint, then dipped in glaze. This auction is for an excellent late 19th century Glasgow pottery ironstone milk/water pitcher. This piece was purchased from a prominent southern Maryland estate. This fine pitcher was manufactured by John Moses and the Glasgow Pottery company of Trenton New Jersey. Glasgow pottery was established in 1863 and quickly became one of the largest and most successful potters in New Jersey. Glasgow produced a variety of centennial commemerative tea cups and saucers for which they are well known for. Many organizations sponsored fund raising activities centered on the 100th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party that also featured Glasgow cups and saucers. The company continued success until shortly after the death of John Moses in 1902.Which at that time were sold to Maddock Pottery. According to my research the Pankhurst factory operated from 1850 to 1883, with“ Co” being added in 1852, when J. Dimmock joined J.W. Pankhurst as a partner. Manufactured by Villeroy& Boch between 1874- 1909. The pitcher measures 11" at the highest and 9.5" from spout to handle. There are no chips. There is a tight hairline at the spout. Showing the exterior(5th photo) and interior(6th photo) There are also small spider cracks to the interior, which don't penetrate through the exterior and can't be seen unless you look inside. The pitcher doesn't leak. There is clean crazing throughout. Which is normal due to age. None affect the integrity of the pitcher.
