Antique English 19th Century Soft Paste Porcelain Jug or Pitcher with Gilt Trim
Antique English 19th Century Soft Paste Porcelain Jug or Pitcher with Gilt Trim English antique soft paste porcelain jug from the mid 1800’s. The ornate soft paste jug is a beautiful lavender-blue and white and features two allegorical scenes on the side panels in relief. One scene depicts a woman holding a Caduceus. The staff carried by Hermes in Greek mythology, and a child sitting on her lap as two young children pull her carriage. The second scene depicts a woman in a carriage being pulled by two dogs as a putto with baskets of flowers hovers above her. A simple border that terminates in a shell form, surrounds both of the scenes. The front of the jug depicts a tree. There pitcher is accented with brilliant gilt trim and decoration throughout and the front of the pitcher has a decorative gilt monogram on the front. The jug is unsigned ... moreand unmarked. There is a bit of faint gilt loss, particularly on the rim, lip of the spout and on the acanthus leaf handle. There is a tight ¼” hairline on the interior where the handle meets the body and another 1” tight hairline on the bottom rim. The hairline does not go into the interior or prevent water storage. Measures 6 5/8” high x 9 ½” from the end of handle to the tip of spout. Our upcoming Feb. 10th auction features a fine selection of European porcelain from the 19th century. Antique Brown & Mustard Decorated Redware Pitcher; 19th Century Folk Pottery old
Here's a beautiful. 19th century redware pitcher in very good condition! Thick, rugged, and heavy, this piece has an ovoid shape with a wide midsection. It has a gorgeous blend of colors including mustard, brown, and greens. The glaze& oxides were somehow applied in a manner where it didn't adhear in certain places and other parts were not glazed at all, including the bottom. In other areas the glaze is drizzled or running downward. When fired, interesting characteristics were created including mottling and a speckled effect. The unglazed red portions have an original, grungy patina that's the result of past use, places it was kept, and the passage of time. Oddly enough. There's some sort of slip decoration on the front, under the spout, that is difficult to discern. It probably was a name or some sort of writing and part ... moreof a date where a mistake was made and the entire piece was glazed over in this unique manner to cover it up. It looks like a capital letter C with a last name under it, followed by 1874 or 1879, perhaps. The way the piece was glazed as well as wear and tear makes it very difficult to make out. In fact, we didn't really notice the writing until after viewing one of the photos while posting this auction. It's an interesting peak into the history of this old pitcher and perhaps if you are skilled, you may be able to determine what it says under that glaze. Regardless. This is a very attractive piece of pottery that also has decorative incised bands, an applied handle, a charming country-style shape, and of course its very nice coloring. It measures 10 1/4 inches high while the diameter of the bottom is 4 1/8 inches. The opening of the pitcher is 5 1/4 inches including the spout and the widest point in the middle is 7 1/2 inches. It weighs over 4 pounds. We found no cracks or hairlines, only some old pitting on the interior that isn't structurally significant. Antique Decorated Ovoid Redware Pitcher; 19th Century Mottled Folk Pottery old
This time we have an early piece of decorated redware pottery in very good. Well-preserved condition. Dating to the middle 19th Century, this lead glazed pitcher has beautiful coloring that was achieved through the use of oxides. It's primarilly green inside and out with mustard and orange colored mottling all over. On the interior, the green turns to mustard at the bottom third of the piece where the surface is worn from use. On the exterior, an area that varies from 3/4 inch to 2 inches from the bottom wasn't glazed, nor was the underside. The original red clay surface was left exposed and an old, grungy patina resulted from past use and the passage of time. Carved into the bottom are the initials"A.S. In addition, this old piece has whimsical, white-yellow floral decorations on opposite sides, adding even more folksy charm. ... moreThe exterior glaze shows wear and tear. Mostly surface scratches from coming in contact with other items. Also, there are a pair of contact marks where it was touching other pieces while being fired. As mentioned earlier, the interior has some loss of glaze but the clay surface is not eroded. Glaze was also worn off on the opening rim and the edges of the handle. There are only a couple of old chips on the rim, none elsewhere. While writing this description we noticed a 2 1/2" line in the back, under the handle, that looks like a very tight hairline. It doesn't appear to go all the way through to the interior and can't be felt when running a finger or fingernail across it. While we like to fully disclose all flaws to the best of our ability, these are really just indicators of heavy use and are helpful in authentication. Redware pottery was used for common, everyday purposes; it was not considered anything special. Surviving examples are often found with significant damage so this early pitcher was well cared for throughout its history. Heavier than it looks, this piece is solid, rugged, and structurally sound. It stands 10 inches tall and has a base diameter of 4

The piece is glazed inside and out. 9-1/2" tall and 8-3/4" from the outermost part of handle to tip of spout. Wonderful detail. No crazing which is remarkable for the age of this piece. STUNNING 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE EMBOSSED WHITE PITCHER
THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY STUNNING AND RARE 19TH CENTURY WHITE EMBOSSED PITCHER. IT HAS AN INTRICATE AND BEAUTIFUL DESIGN THROUGHOUT WITH A LOVELY CURVED HANDLE AND STANDS 10 1/2" TALL. IT IS PROBABLY FROM ENGLAND. BUT DOES NOT HAVE A MARK WHICH WAS NOT UNUSUAL AT THE TIME. AT FIRST LOOK THE PITCHER LOOKS PRFECT. IT HAS NO CHIPS OR LARGE CRACKS, BUT ON FURTHER INSPECTION YOU CAN SEE A LONG THIN CRACK THAT GOES FROM THE BACK TOP NEAR THE HANDLE AND THEN DOWN AND AROUND TO THE BOTTOM. IF THIS WILL BE USED AS A DISPLAY PIECE, THERE ARE NO ISSUES FROM THE FRONT OR 1 SIDE. THIS DOES AFFECT THE VALUE AND BECAUSE OF IT, I HAVE PRICED IT LOW. IF PERFECT, IT WOULD BE WORTH MANY HUNDREDS OF $'S BECAUSE OF IT'S BEAUTY AND RARITY. IT STILL LOOKS BEAUTIFUL AND IS A WONDERFUL DISPLAY PIECE FOR YOUR COLLECTION.

Unique Primitive 19th Century French Clay Pottery Pitcher Confit Pot Antique
This is a unique 19th century large French pottery pitcher with a handle and minimal pouring spout. Glaze is mustard gold interior and exterior top half and cream/grey bottom half. Appears to be red clay underneath. The design resembles brick work or a stone wall made of crudely painted marks in green glaze. Probably southern France. Came from an estate with many 19th century French pottery pieces(I have 4 of them, if you don't see them in my other listings please ask) Most of these pottery pieces from that region have flaws in glaze and clay which give them character and this one has many, it is quite primitive. There is crazing/tiny cracks to glaze typical for age. There are no cracks in the clay; there is one chip on the upper rim near the handle and glaze missing underneath the chip on the pitcher vessel. Some of the glaze on the ... moreupper rim is worn off, which is common. It is a beautiful piece and goes well with the other one I have for sale. Please see photos for anything not mentioned here as part of the item description. Measurements: 6" diameter upper rim and base(interior upper rim is 4.5" diameter) and 8.25" tall. ANTIQUE 19TH C ENGLISH COPPER LUSTRE PITCHER TRICORN HAT TOP RELIEF FIGURES OLD
Click Here. Double your traffic. Get Vendio Gallery- Now FREE! A TIP OF THE TRICORN HAT TO COPPER LUSTRE! This week's new debut Copper Lustre Pitcher is an antique mid 19thc English all-over monotone glaze highly deep lustrous glazed medium sized pitcher with a most unusual feature I've never seen before: a folded three corner pointed mouth spout opening just like a colonial Tricorn Hat! Please study the pictures provided from all angles taken in seasonal summer sunshine to show all detials mentioned herein; it almost mimics a Toby Jug in its rotund plump form. Yet it is pure Copper Lustre through and through, even on the bottom as you can see. The handle is a wiggly shape twisted affair with definite shape in an ear-form attached to the body perhaps like a garden vine. The left and right sides of the pitcher's body sport relief ... moremolded figures; after studying up close. I determine one side to be a Squirrel eating a nut under a Leafy Tree the same size as the animal(so much for perspective! and the reverse side appears to be perhaps a Hunter or Farmer under a tree in search after the squirrel.quite amusing 19th c decor intended to delight the eye of the beholder in dimly lit coal heated stone country cottages in nitty gritty Staffordshire districts and beyond. A sunray solar sun rises above human figure splashed onto rim on only one side(to the nonsharp viewer not noticing the story line it might look like a flower to you. After all, when you look up, you see only ONE sun in the sky, right? The Tricorn design folds actually allows liquid to be poured from side angles as well as traditional forward pour; quite clever indeed; perhaps this is for thick liquids like sorghum or cane syrup, which the British sweeten with in some recipes. Antiques don't talk but the experienced Dealer knows how to make them come alive again for new collectors in this modern age. Tricorn Copper Lustre stands 5" tall and 5" across Tricorn fold tip to outer handle. Base with nice old table ring wear is 3" acro

Antique ALBANY SLIP Glazed Stoneware Pitcher Mid 19th Century
We are pleased to offer a beautiful antique stoneware pitcher. Finished in dark brown Albany Slip glaze. It has a smooth finish with quite a bit of glaze drip on the lower portion of the piece. A very nice find! Pottery makers across upstate New York turned out millions of pieces of utilitarian stoneware in the 19th century. It was not considered valuable and as such. Was not preserved or well cared for. Much of it was finished in a dark brown glaze called Albany Slip. The glaze was high in mineral content which accounts for the variations in color- it can be almost black to lighter shades of brown. The firing process caused color variations as well. Many of the pieces show the fingerprints of the pottery who dipped the piece into the glaze before firing. We will be offering a number of these pieces in the coming weeks. They are great for ... moreaccenting country or primitive decor. Please be sure to add us to your and check back often. Condition: Excellent- no chips or cracks. Antique Early 19th Century Mocha Ware Ceramic Cream Pitcher
Antique Early 19th Century Mocha Ware Ceramic Pitcher This nice little cream pitcher is a piece of early 1800s Mocha Ware. A factory-made slipware that was refined earthernware decorated with colored slip and mass produced. Ware of this variety was manufactured by British, French, and North American potters from the late 18th Century to the late 19th Century. The pattern on this pitcher consists of banding on top and bottom, applied with a slip pot that the worker used to trail the colored slip on the pot as it rotated in front of him. This old piece has a lovely banded pattern plus some additional decorative molded design on the applied handle. The pitcher measures 4" tall. About 5 1/4" wide across the handle and spout, and about 3 3/4" in diameter across the belly. Mocha Wear was one of the first factory mass produced ceramics. ... moreAnd it became enormously popular for everyday use. It was tough and pretty and often was referred to as Tavern Ware(after its' use became popular in such places! This piece has definitely seen some use, and it bears the scars of its' workaday history- don't forget it is 200 years old! It has some loss of banding slip and a number of cracks- the most obvious being the one on the base(an old repair of a broken base rim) There also is a crack in the upper part of the handle and some rubbing on the rim and base. Still, the pitcher is a nice old piece, and it would be a great gift for someone who collects antique ceramics, for a historian, or for an historical archaeologist interested in assembling a"type collection" of 18th century wares. I've enjoyed it for many years, but it is time to thin out my collections now, so I'm hoping to find this old girl a new home. Please note: Paypal is required for payment. And payment should be completed within 4 days of the close of bidding. I wrap and pack very carefully and ship USPS priority. I am always happy to combine shipping on multiple items. So do check out my other listings. Please feel free to email

19th Century Rare Mason's Ironstone Davenport Imari Pitcher with Snake Handle
Beautiful Davenport Stone China Imari decorated pitcher with a snake handle. Very rare and in good condition. The pitcher measures about 7 inches in height and 6 inches wide. Marking dates it to 1805-1820; John Davenport, born in 1765, is said to have begun potting in 1785, first as a workman, and later as a partner with Thomas Wolfe of Stoke. He acquired his own pottery at Longport for the manufacture of earthenware in 1794. In 1830 he retired, and his two sons Henry and William carried on the firm until 1835, when Henry died. This style of the firm then became William Davenport and Company. William died in 1869, and his two sons took over the direction of the business, which remained in the family until 1887.
