French Louis XVI Style Bonheur Du Jour 19th Century Antique Cylinder Top Desk
French Louis XVI Style Bonheur Du Jour Antique Writing Desk France c. 1890-1910. Mahogany Veneers with Brass Stringer Inlay Cylindrical Top Desk with Mechanical Movement Item# 120012OWP03 This is a simply gorgeous French Louis XVI style Bonheur Du Jour Cylinder Top Antique Desk. A wonderful visual accomplishment. This desk revives the Napoleonic tastes of the late 18th Century, in every way capturing the Neoclassical taste for clean lines and stoic structure juxtaposed with lavish ornamentation. Mounted with precisely executed brass and bronze hardware and embellishments, the desk is mutually reserved and royal. Crafted almost entirely by hand, this is a stunning and highly complex work, using gorgeous mahogany veneers to cover all visible surfaces of the desk. The cylinder top has an interesting mechanism whereby the opening of the lower ... moredrawer opens the roll top. Once the cylinder top is opened. The desk lid is accessible, now easily opened to lay supported on the open drawer- this reveals an original tooled black and gilt leather writing surface, three small hand dovetailed drawers, a pen rest flanked by inkwell cubbies and a storage space inside. Resting over that are three larger drawers. Again each hand dovetailed with solid mahogany secondary woods, the bottom of each drawer chamfered along the sides to rabbet into the frame and nailed at the back with tiny nails. A curious inscription on the pine beneath the middle top drawer is a possible attribution to it's maker, an upside-down V with an S scrolled inside- the same inscription appears in very large proportions on the backboard as viewed by removing the top drawers and peering back into the antique french desk. The interior is inscrutable unfortunately. Much of it being locked up with the dust boards, roll top and lower drawer that is not removable. Each drawer is framed in brass tubular molding around the gilt bronze drawer hardware. The top is a piece of mottled red and cream marble. Repaired in a few places, surrounded by a pierced brass galler

For your consideration, this wonderful solid Walnut Victorian C-Roll Top Desk with Burl Accents(Circa: 1880) This handsome Desk weighs approximately 240 pounds and measures 45 ¾” in total height, 30 ¾” in height from the floor to the top of the writing surface, 48” in width, and 29” in depth. The details on this desk are understated and elegant. The C-roll top is graced with fluted moulding on the sides and opens to reveal the interior compartment. The interior compartment consists of seven storage slots and two small fluted drawers along with two ebonized pen/pencil holders and a green felt writing surface. The base of this wonderful desk consists of five drawers that are adorned with lovely fluted moulding and burl-clad pulls. Outstanding Victorian walnut cylinder desk. This intricately detailed piece has definite Eastlake influences including a decorative grid pattern that borders the panelled sides and back and elaborate scroll decoration below the writing surface. Cylinder top conceals pigeon holes and a pull-out writing surface covered in emerald green felt. Brass hinges. Diamond-shaped escutcheons and rosette-mounted bail handle drawer pulls. One long shallow top drawers as well as three half-size drawers and a generous cabinet space. Dowel construction throughout including the drawers, top and back. The locking mechanisms in the drawers have two patent dates- April, 1875 and August, 1882. No maker's marks. Over all this piece is in very good condition. Especially considering its age. Antique 1800's Desk Walnut Slant Front Top Section Only or Countertop Original
Antique 1800's desk slant front top or possibly a counter top desk for a country store. Etc. I believe that it's all original with the original outside finish and interior light green paint. The wood is walnut, popular back in the old days. The early desk hardware is pictured in photos# 3 and# 8. As you can see it possibly is a desk that just sat on a counter, etc. because of the way it's not finished on bottom and not much of evidence of any nails or screws holding it on to a base, so possibly a complete unit in itself and all complete. Photo#9 shows the pencil or pen holder that extents the whole inside front. In photo#4 the hole for an early ink well can be seen. It measures about 26 inches wide, about 20 1\4 inches deep and about 8 1\2 inches high in back and about 6 1\2 inches high in front. The slant front with aging has ... morea couple of cracks from the wood drying over the many years. You can notice in photos#2,3,and#8 that the interior top looks lighter than the outside which is common with antiques where the outside is exposed to light, smoke, dust etc. thru the years darkening the color and I would say the exterior is close to a medium(Early American Minwax) color which is a desirable color for antiques.It's a fairly heavy piece about 26 lbs. and shipping will vary depending on where it's going just to let you know. It is in very good condition and shows normal wear and tear for it’s age—over a decade—100 plus years. As shown in the photos. There are also some surface scratches, dings, paint speckles, and staining on the canvas catch cloth. This lovely watchmaker’s bench has nine drawers. Two deep cabinets or cupboards with doors, two drop down oak sides, and a canvas catch drawer. All original drawer pulls, hooks, hinges, hardware, and the canvas catch are intact and fully functioning. The roll-top piece ... moreworks well, rolls easily, and engages a set of drawer locks when closed. We do not have a key. The unit measures 50” H x 43 ½” W x 26” D. Workbench height is 39” from the ground. All wood is solid oak. This bench has a tambour shaped roll-top that completely covers the work area when closed. Each side drops down by unhooking hooks to provide an even larger tabletop surface which measures 60” across. One of the cupboard enclosures was specifically designed to house watchmaking and jeweler’s tools; the other enclosed the flywheel for the treadle. It still be used for the purpose it was made for. 5 dove tailed drawers, 2 on each side and one across the middle, all with individual locks. Here is another top of the line item carrying a thrift shop price. This is a Mid 19th Century Napoleon III Boulle Bureau Plat(Bureauplat) Better yet Bronze Mounted Tortoise and Scrolling Brass Inlaid Leather Top Desk. This work of art can still be used for the purpose it was made for, however it is an eye candy with a writting surface covered in original dark(navy) blue Moroccan tooled leather(gold edges) wich has darkened with age to almost black appearance. Quality of bronze mounts is a 10+. They are classic French III Empire mounts, on the edges with saboes on the bottom. Cabriole legs matching in front and back, flanking a single drawer. Which makes me wonder if underneath the old, shabby-looking white paint, is the rest of the desk like this, or is it veneer or what is it? The drawers are painted on the outside, but inside are pine lined, which tells me that most likely the exterior is some sort of veneer. This piece came out of Denmark and dates from the 1840s to‘60s era. It’s a great period desk that someone decided to modernize in the shabby chic style many years ago with white paint and a gold border edge. The height to the writing lid, when opened, is 31 inches high, and gives you plenty of work space to write out checks for your antique purchases. The actual size of the desk, itself, is 48 inches wide, 22 inches deep, and 43 inches high. 1884 Roll Top Desk with Corbin Cabinet Lock(CCL. RollTop) Excellent heavy wood. Locking roll top desk. The top rolls over the open desk and locks with a key; doing so also locks the top drawer as well. The lock is made by CCL(Corbin Cabinet Lock) they've been around since the 1800's. It is a two piece unit; the roll top desk area can be separated simply by lifting it from it's base(drawer area) It's also easy to move around due to base mounted wheels. There are far more than enough'cubbyholes' for all your knickknacks; including three rarely found vertical side slots(1@ 17" 2@ 8 1/2" There are two small drawers and dual pen holders in this area as well(see photos) The desk top surface area has wooden bumper guards at both sides. The base leg/feet area is of a'closed architecture' type(as opposed to ... morean open back style; see photos) and sports 8 drawers with 2 hidden sleeves on either side that you pull to extend(~18" The desk top itself has various glass/cup ring stains(see photos) There is a two piece spring loaded internal mechanism which serves to prevent the top from moving around. One of these pieces has come loose(part is included) and looks to be fairly easy to repair. Even still. It's function is basically unnecessary, due to the weight of the roll top(it won't be moving/sliding around) Being internal, this mishap is entirely hidden from any viewpoint angle. One of the four wheels is missing. The framework of this wheel is still intact, but the'wheel' itself is not there. The other three wheels are fine; the desk can still be easily moved around by the remaining three. The only history on this desk that I could dig up was from the previous owners that say it was owned by their friends Great Grandfather; a North Carolina abolitionist politician who also apparently wrote books. It is in very good condition and shows normal wear and tear for it’s age—over a decade—100 plus years. As shown in the photos. There are also some surface scratches, dings, paint speckles, and staining on the canvas catch cloth. This lovely watchmaker’s bench has nine drawers. Two deep cabinets or cupboards with doors, two drop down oak sides, and a canvas catch drawer. The roll-top piece works well, rolls easily, and engages a set of drawer locks when closed. We do not have a key. The unit measures 50” H x 43 ½” W x 26” D. Workbench height is 39” from the ground. All wood is solid oak. This bench has a tambour shaped roll-top that completely covers the work area when closed. Each side drops down by unhooking hooks to provide an even larger tabletop surface which measures 60” across. One of the cupboard enclosures was specifically designed to house watchmaking and jeweler’s tools; the other enclosed the flywheel for the treadle. This antique roll-top jeweler’s bench does not include the original watchmaker’s lathe. Driving pulleys, treadle, or other related machinery. This fabulous secretary features a bonnet style top with a high arched center and applied carvings. The bookcase offers three shelves behind two original glass panel doors with lock and key that work. The desk portion is unique in that part of the desk folds out and the other part folds down forming the writing surface and reveling the inside cubbies and drawers. I believe the original velvet in on the writing surface showing the wear of many many years of use. The desk lock works with the same key as the bookcase. I remember visiting her shop which was super interesting with lots of nooks and crannies filled with beautiful and out of the ordinary mostly American antiques. This desk was purchased in 1969 by a man who ended up as her husband and it remained in their family until now. Apparently. As the story goes, he was a student then and could not afford to buy the desk so he worked it off by doing odd jobs and helping around the shop. Everything is original from the finish to the locking system for the drawers and lock set and sliding locking mechanism for the top to the castors to the drawer slides to the fabric on the tambour door to the hardware and ... moredrawer pulls. There are four drawers with the shell carved handles on one side and three drawers and four handles on the other side as the bottom drawer is the double door. Antique Slant Top Teacher's Desk
Authentic slant top teacher's desk. Made from clear pine. Has a single wide drawer and cubby holes inside the slant top compartment. Dimensions: 31" wide. 21" deep, 34" tall This desk is typical of those used by teachers in one-room school houses in the 19th century. The outside of the desk has been refinished but the inside is in its original condition. The internal lock mechanism is missing. But the outside lock plate is still there. One hinge is also a little loose. As you would expect of a piece used in a schoolhouse, it has a few scuffs. However, these are part of the charm of the piece.

Circa 1880. It boasts four graduated drawers in each ... morepedestal. The right hand pedestal features a filing drawer in the bottom drawer of the pedestal. The desk boasts solid golden oak fielded panels throughout and features the original oak cup handles to the pedestal. On each side of the tambour. There is a posting slot for mail(this allowed people to post mail into the desk while the tambour was locked) There is an oak modesty board, with two pullout-writing slides above 4 drawers in each pedestal. The interior has 14 internal drawers and 13 internal compartments and with brass finger hooks and knobs. The desk features a locking mechanism when the roll-top is closed. The lock and key are in working order. The two top drawers feature a working lock& key. The internal drawers are constructed of sycamore. The oak has an excellent tight grain with a wax finish. for auction is a wonderful solid quartersawn oak roll top desk. this desk has no veneers and the quartersawn oak flake is as good as i have ever seen or owned. an old man. Long dead, who dealt in many many roll top desk told me that if you had a desk with a 5 digit inventory number that is was made by stickley and brandt. at any rate i would stake a good bit on his opinion. the stamped in inventory no. on this desk is 18173. regardless of who made this desk, it is top quality material and workmanship. the desk is 50 inches tall with a s waterfall top with a tambur that rolls and moves with great ease, no stopping, catching, jamming, etc. it rolls like butter. the other dimensions are, it is 50 inches wide and 32 inches deep. the desk top is 30 inches from the floor. it has the original key cover plate and strike plate on the desk top writing ... moresurface. the old lock has lost it's guts so i replaced the lock. anyway the top will lock if you choose to do so. it has a wonderful set of cubbies, complete with two pencil holders, i forgot to open for pictures and one drawer with a carved pull. i expect there may have been another drawer on the other side that has fell by the wayside somewhere and time in the last 120 years. the remainder of the cubby holes are as they should be. they were never designed for drawers and the openings are a good bit smaller than the ones that would accept a drawer. it has 4 drawers of wonderful construction on the left bank of the cabinet portion, most of which contain dividers. the right bank consists of three drawers, the bottom is a double drawer suited for file folders, it has a divider long ways down the center. i also forgot to open the drawers for pictures. i have used the 12 pictures ebay allows, but if anyone want pictures of the inside of the drawers or anything else i will be glad to send them to you. the drawers all have carved pulls in mint condition. underneath the desk top are four scotch and secure blocks which slide into a groove about 1/2 inch below the top part of the

This opulent but understated secretary desk has a marble top. Inside. Turning the shaped columns releases secret spring loaded drawers. The writing surface is natural saddle leather. Black and white marble has been polished and sealed to resist stains. Matched flame grain mahogany is beautifully figured. The original finish is very well preserved with warm patina and remarkably little wear plus a few irregularities from age, see photos.
