The piece is in amazing condition, with very ... morelittle sign of wear at all. There are a few small areas on the ornately carved back where there have been some small repairs to the ornately carved areas. There are a few light surface scratches to the finish from general use, but it has been very well cared for, and is in amazing condition. I am unsure of the exact age or manufacture of the piece. It most likely dates to the middle to last part of the 19th Century. It does have some cracking in the front writing surface of the desk, but these areas are superficial thus far. The desk is made of what I believe is mahogany, and has ornately carved accecents on the vitrine shelf supports which are done in reverse scrolls.

The desk comes with four raised panel dove tail drawers that retain all the original hardware. The center where the legs go have a reverse cove carving, which I have never seen in oak. It has a scallop bottom trim base, raised panels all the way around and a wide bevel edge on the solid tiger sawn oak top. The only negatives I see on the desk is that there is a little wear on the edge of the top from rubbing against something and there is a split going down the center of the top. We most likely could pull the top off and repair the top, which wouldn’t make a huge difference, but it is an expensive repair. The desk itself is high end quality.

The desk was refinished in the last 10 years or so and whoever it was did a wonderful job. The desk has dainty carved cabriole legs with brass fillagree on the elbows and castors. The drawers are all dove tail with brass ribbed knobs. The doors have locks, but there is no key. The desk is in wonderful condition apart from two small cracks on the solid oak top that has nothing to do with structure and you wouldn’t want to touch it. Applied carved buttons on the top and sides and lovely gingerbread carvings below the top shelf and the inside desk area, and with what we believe to be the original brass hardware. The drawer locks are missing.I restored all the drawers, carefully taking them all apart and regluing them all and now they are rock solid and slide excellently. Full depth drawers with lots of storage.The desk is finished on all sides, allowing it to be placed anywhere in a room. The recessed flat panel sides are a great design. Adding to the beauty. I purposefully left some character marks remain in this desk such as tiny chip of wood,left top edge) pinholes etc, they give this desk awesome character, I was not trying to create a reproduction piece I try and respect the antique with all of its age, history and character. This clerks desk provides a generous amount of storage space for its size, with two external drawers and a top that opens to reveal an interior desk space with tongue-in-groove paneling. Each drawer features solid-brass pulls and hand-cut dovetails. They also retain brass escutcheons but these do not, unfortunately, house functioning locks and the piece does not retain the original key. Some time ago the legs were damaged and the feet were sawed off, and each leg now shows signs of that damage in the form of significant cracks and chips; nevertheless the piece remains sturdy. 1852 Lap Desk - Victorian Style Solid Walnut , Brass Hardware, w/ Key & 6 Quills
This is an Original Victorian 1800s solid walnut sloped traveler's lap desk with working brass lock and key. Featuring. Brass hinges and lock, blue felt writing surface with two storage compartments underneath. It has two inkwell compartments and the center section for pens(lifts out) Found inside the center compartment was six nice quill pen ends. The lapdesk is beautiful and in great shape. There is an inscription inside the box(it is pictured) and says that" This box was presented on December 25th 1852" The lock and key work properly and the hinges are undamaged. The box is in very nice condition. The quill ends and pencil are included in this sell. The felt has never been replaced. Measurements closed are 12" x 8"x 4" Open it is 12" x 16"

This is a antique Eastlake style Victorian Oak roll top secretary cylinder desk that dates from the late 1800s. Made from solid oak(NO VENEER) and in very good condition with some light scratches and rubs from age and use. Measures 42 1/4" tall. 34 1/8" wide and 21 1/2" deep. A nice space saver desk. All drawers slide in and out good and the slide out writing desk top slides in and out very good as well.Appears to have been refinished at one point in time and the handles are not original to the desk.
