Antique Carved SEWING CASE ETUI Thimble Scissors TOOLS Box Kit
This auction is for an Antique Carved/Fitted sewing case or an ETUI. The piece is quite heavy for its size and weights a sturdy 94 grams with the tools inside. The piece measures approximately 3 1/8 inches in length and 1 7/8 inches in width. Allowing for the release catch. It is possible that the Thimble is original to this kit; however. The scissors definitely are not original(they don't fit properly. But they will be sent with the etui as they came with it) The hinges on the box have no makers marks that I can find but are in good working condition; however. There is a small chip to the button used for opening the etui- please see photos. The thimble(has no marks) has a bright cut floral edge and when held to the light does not appear to be pierced through; the scissors measure just over 2 1/2 inches in length I would guess are old ... moresteel and have pitting. Found with the lot, as seen in photo 12, is a note written in the hand of my grandmother as follows: My mother’s bone crochet hook. I broke it—yarn too heavy. Her mother came to the United States from Germany in 1886. I discovered this crochet hook. Together with the other 10 sewing tools in my grandmother's old sewing cabinet. This wonderful eclectic lot silver metal sewing tools. Ca.1900, is in excellent working condition and has also come from my grandmother's sewing cabinet. 1. The delicate. Collapsable, in very good working condition, round scissors and buttonhook is marked with the following: Pat. A? R. 1914" next line"TRADE HE[LGA] H MARK. This unique tool measures 2-inches in diameter fully collapsed and 5 1/4-inches in length fully opened. 2. This dainty. In excellent sharp working condition, silver metal swan embroidery scissors, measures 3-inches in length. The scissors are marked as follows: On the open tail side of the scissors: G[er]MAN[y] It looks like the"er" is completely worn off and that the"y" missed the edge of the scissor. On the open swan side, the mark reads: LLR&Co. There is clearly an"S. above ... morethe LLR&Co; however, I cannot make out the rest. 3. This beautiful. Collapsable, silver metal pocket buttonhook has no markings, except some pretty feather-like stenciling on one side. It measures 3 3/4-inches when fully open and 2-inches when collapsed. It is very solid and well made; there is some"green-like" tarnish on the inside of the sheath. This leads me to believe it may contain copper. 4. Silver metal buttonhook with handle design is in very good working condition; however. On one side, there is some rusting. Please view the photograph. 5. Antique Carved Bone Bodkins Awls Fids Sewing Tools 6 Pcs
This is a very nice lot of 5 carved bone bodkins and one carved bone cap( The first bodkin from the left is about 4" tall. The next is 3 3/8" the third is 3 1/4" the fourth is 2 3/4" and the last bodkin is 2 3/4" The last mystery piece is also made of bone and was stored with the bodkins. It is about 1" long and has a deep hollow center. I thought it might be a cap but it didn't fit any of the items in the sewing box. The first bodkin has more brown bone"specs" on one side than the other. The 3rd bodkin from the left has a flat area which looks like the bone wasn't as thick at that spot when the bodkin was carved. It does look original to the carving and not later damage. All the bodkins are in very good antique condition.

This is an antique sewing etui. It is gorgeous with many of its original tools. A receipt from the 1980s is included. It was purchased in England and declares it to be Russian Victorian. I have no other way of verification. I haven't been able to find anything like it other than this one. It seems to be a rare piece and a rare fund. It is in delicate condition but in good condition considering it's age. One side compartment has come loose but I will leave that to the buyer should they want to repair it. There are places for thread. Needles,pins, tools and all sorts of things. Three of the tool holders in the main compartment come loose and will no longer hold tools. Leather covered rope handles work well. They have leather loss. The bottom is a pebbled burgundy paper. Material hinged back. Overall Good Condition with expected age wear. Inside is lined in a dark purple color material with material hinges. The hinged section below is purple silk material with an oblong oval mirror. No breaks to the mirror. The back side of this section matches the inside and has loops for various tools and a thimble. On the bottom is a lift out piece with two loops for more tools. 2 Antique UNUSUAL Needle Threaders Sewing Tools& Thumb Ring Thread Cutter This little lot of old sewing tools includes 2 different kinds of needle threaders and a metal thumb ring thread cutter(how handy is that? One needle threader measures 2.25” long when folded. An very thin metal arm pivots out from this metal pocket. The arm has a hole in it and a curiously hooked end. The case is a heavier metal. And on one side is engraved“Rapid Needle Threader, Pat. Pend. Made in U.S.A. here is light discoloration of the metal of the case. The second threader. Made of tin, has“Ebey” embossed on one side of the case, and“Simplex, Pat. Ped. sic] 1914” on the other. It has the finest, tiny wire hook you can imagine! Please see photo. As I recall, the metal band around the case used to slide down revealing maybe more of the wire(not sure) but it is ... morerather stuck in place now. It can probably be loosened and moved with some imagination or oil. The last item is a still sharp thread cutter that fits nicely on my thumb. It would have made the process a lot easier. Say what you will about the joys of a treasure hunt. And they are many, it's not easy! Much nicer to sit around in your PJs with your morning cup of whatever and scroll down lists instead of standing in the dark and sometimes cold waiting for a sale to open. So I'm offering this lot for those who appreciate collecting the easy way. As you can see there are a couple of pairs of old scissors, including a figural German pair, some bone tools including a pretty little crochet hook, a punch with an unusual cross-hatched end and a tiny tatting ... moreshuttle, an old but empty needle case that could be refilled, a strawberry emery, a functional metal Boye tatting shuttle and, most unusual, a cluster of little metal net wrapped buds of what I think is mending cotton, each bud tipped with an old Czech frosted button. Somewhere i saw a photo of a similar piece that showed one bud opened with the thread partially pulled out which is why I think it was a highly decorative way of carrying an assortment of threads for mending. Probably the oldest piece in the lot too since the metal mesh is similar to material I've seen on 19th century Christmas ornaments. All the items are in good antique condition with no conspicuous damage. Several of the buttons on the thread cluster are missing their rhinestones and the needle case is pretty worn but that's about it for problems. Questions just ask! Antique Chatelaine Sewing Tools in Bone- Victorian
This auction is for a chatelaine with tools made from bone. It includes 6 pieces. Including the clip. They are all in a somewhat shiny white bone, with varying degrees of decoration; only the tatting shuttle is unadorned. They include an awl, a needle case, a very intricate tweezer-like affair. The most decorative piece of all is apparently an awl; it has been intricately carved and is quite remarkably. Please see photos and email with any questions. Antique Victorian Hand Made Sewing Chatelaine~Porcelain Doll Head~Ribbon~Tools
No shipping outside the US From a local estate ~ Victorian Handmade Sewing Chatelaine ~ Dates from the late Victorian– early 1900′s era. This wonderful old chatelaine consists a circular frame wrapped in silk ribbon with a porcelain dolls head at the top. And a group of bone rings entwined with ribbon to make a chain down the center. At the end of the ribbons are sewing tools ~ a bone stiletto, small thimble, thread and scissors. Top to bottom measures about 13" The frame is 6" in diameter. Condition: Silk ribbon is faded. Worn, and quite delicate and frayed. No chips or cracks in the porcelain doll head. In the photos you can see a tiny mold defect in the left cheek. One tool is missing-probably a little hand made pin cushion. Even with the age wear. This is a nice original example of a lost art from past generations, and a very ... morehard to find item. For sewing and etc. A needle case, with inlay, some missing, and it's approx. 3 3/8" long, a domino approx. 7/8" long, a bodkin, approx. approx. 2 3/4" and 2 other sewing items, approx. 4" and 4 1/2" one with wear to end, and a partial carved piece, approx. 3 3/8" threaded at the end, missing a piece, it has a wax seal on the tip, that is threaded on, and an umbrella handle, approx. 2 5/8" across with carving and having some chipping on the"swiveling ball" part. All show wear and age, but overall, still nice.

This kit measures 2 3/4 x 4 1/4 inches and is leather bound with brass corners and clasp. The spring clasp is still intact and working. This kit includes 3 matching celluloid tools{fold out pocket knife. A small crotchet hook with inter-changeable hooks, and a larger hook tool} 2 ox bone graphite pencils{one is a small wooden pencil with ox bone carved end, the other is a mechanical pencil"ox bone" lead holder 2mm size} a newer grasping tool of some sort, assorted thread, 6 very fine needles, a purple silk covered journal which describes the stitching for various items{gloves, dress, etc. in very old cursive style writing and of course the leather& brass with purple silk lined work kit. Antique Victorian Sewing Set Violin Case Tools Kit Orange Velvet Box Scissors
For your consideration is this antique sewing set in a violin case shaped box circa 1900. The case is covered in brown Moroccan leather with a deep orange velvet lined interior. This sewing kit includes a pair of scissors(vintage. But not original to case) a brass thimble, and the following ox bone handled sewing and manicure implements; a carved awl, buttonhook, tweezers, file, pick, and two cuticle pushers. Condition: Very Fine! Case is scuffed and shows very minimal wear and is very good for its age. Interior fabric and tools are in very good condition. There are a few very minor spots of rust on the steel bits of a couple tools(please examine photos) Measurements: 6.5 by 4 inches(at the widest point) 1 inches tall.

C. 1819-1838 All sewing implements other than the thimble are original to this set, are fine French sterling silver, have the hare profile marks. That tiny profile punch showing a rabbit was the small guarantee mark in use in France between 1819-1838 for highest purity French silver, 950-1000 pure. The set has a thimble that is not ... moresterling silver. Sterling is usually too soft a metal to use in these sewing sets, though we do see.800/1000 purity used often in later years. The thimble has markings that are not French and so we think it is a replacement. There is a recess in this Empire- Louis-Philippe era set for a silk winder beneath the scissors.
