It has a gold stamped fountain motif on the front& back with birds drinking from it. It is embossed. Scrolled and gold-stamped on all sides and is hand painted red, green, blue and white. The spine is stamped'LADY'S COMPANION' in gold letters and is enhanced with birds above and below the lettering. The top lifts off& fits nicely on the bottom hal f. Inside lid is lined in a pink paper with gold stamped stars design. The bottom section is a burgundy leather with fitted burgundy velvet lined compartments for the various tools. There is a tiny pin cushion below the thimble. It measures approx. 4" x 3" x 2" The previous owner who lives in France. Found it at their local ... morebrocante market in Provence. Thimble, awl, bobbin, crochet needle, handle, and a case to hold the bobbin and needle. Each pieces fits perfectly in the carved bone case. Overall condition of the tools is very good. Some discoloration on the blade of the scissor. Can possibly be polished out. Overall condition of the case is very good, one spot of discoloration on the top and 2 minor areas on the bottom. One small chip in the back. Hinge works very well, but the mechanism to release the lid is bit tight so it makes it somewhat hard to open the lid. Antique Figural Walnut Sewing Etui With Gilded tools Description: This little sewing etui has been created inside of a real walnut with gilded ormolu mounts. The top is lined with silk and a velvet covered*rack* sits in the middle. Pierced to hold the miniature tools. The tiny gilded metal tools include a thimble. Needle case, bodkin, scissors and stiletto. The petite steel scissors measure almost 1 1/4" 3.2 cm long and cut well. All of the tools are nice working condition. The thimble has a 13 mm diameter opening. The needle case is almost 1 1/8" 3 cm long and has some tiny needles. The stiletto has the original sharp point and is 1 1/16" 2.7 cm long and the bodkin is 1" 2,54 cm long. I can’t see any damage on the little tools. Antique French Sewing Set Etui Silver Gilt Thimble and Scissors by Dreicer NY
This is a French sewing set retailed by Dreicer& Co. New York City, circa 1910. It comprises a silver gilt thimble by P. Genty, decorated with a central cartouche flanked by swags. It is approx. 1 x 1/2 inches. There is also a small scissor with embossed brass handles. The handles are loose from the arms. They are in a fitted velvet and silk lined leather case with gilt tooling. It was retailed by Dreicer& Co. 560 5th Ave. New York. Dreicer was one of the top jewelers in early 20th century New York. I believe it is from the early 1900s as it were owned by a girl who died in 1915 and was kept. Antique French Victorian solid sterling silver sewing etui, or kit, resplendent with lovely florals, and stippling. Circa mid 1800s, this divine needlework kit includes scissors, needle case, bodkin with wax cup, thimble, and a stiletto. During the Victorian age, the bodkin was used to lace corsets. Some older pieces contained a little"cup" at the end that was used to collect ear wax, which was then used to coat the ends of the corset strings to aid in tying them with ease. All of the pieces are sterling silver. Bearing the head of the boar mark used in France to denote pure 800/1000 sterling. The scissors are sharp, and cut well. Antique French Mother of Pearl Sewing Scissors w/ Dolphin Handle
Up for auction is a pair of antique French mother of pearl sewing scissors. They feature carved dolphins on the handles with long pointed blades. The steel blades are marked J.D. Chevalier and measure 6 inches long. Each handle is carved from single pieces of mother of pearl. The handles measure just over 3 inches tall by 2.5 inches wide. These lovely scissors have a condition issue on one of the handles. They were obviously dropped some time ago and the handle has a large chip on the underside where they broke away from the blade. The handle loop shows a glue joint where the ring portion was broken. Still secure but the blades would need to be glued. These scissors still retain an excellent cutting edge. Thank you. PLEASE check the combined shipping policy before payment! Pictured is a lovely Coquilla Nut measuring tape. It is quite unique with the grain of the nut prominently displayed. It is presently dark as it was so dry I felt the need to oil it. It will soon return to it's lighter color. Though the beautiful grain will still display nicely. It measures approximately 5cm x 3cm. It is excellent condition with no issues with cracks or chips. The original silk tape is present. Though the loosely tied knot starts at the 9" mark. The body starts out with a nicely ringed pattern that moves into a horizontal ridge design. Below this is a ... morepierced. Double row of dot's. The screw off end cap has a lovely scalloped edge with no broken pieces. The center spool is also complete. With the light color of the center pole against the dark outer case and the prominent pattern of the grain, all combine to make a very handsome piece. This item was in my grandparents estate. Which consist's of many sewing item's, all from France, which came to American by way of my great grandparents. Pictured is a lovely black sewing box with a decorative gilt plaque on the top. C. 1850 to 1970's. The interior is lined with a ruched red silk and divided into compartments for the 8 tools. Included in this set are four bone tools. Each with a leaf motif carved onto them. These are a button hook, a seam knife, tambour crochet hook with hook and a needle case. There are also a bone handled folding quill knife. A steel bodkin, a pair of steel scissors and a star pattern thimble. ... moreThe tools are all original to the case and fit well into their allotted slots. please see photo's) The folding knife has the makers name of Baxter on it. Other than a patent number and size on the thimble this is the only marking I've found. There is an old sticker on the back of the case. But this is just numbers and not familiar to me in any case. All of the tools could use a good polishing and the handles need to be oiled, but the new owner will need to do that. The scissors cut well and the knives seem to be sharp. I haven't found any chips or cracks to the lovely bone handles nor the bone needle case. The case it's self measures approximately 17.5cm x 10cm x 2.5cm. and I believe was originally covered with a thin leather. The handles on the tools measure approx. 7cm while the dainty scissors measure approx. 7cm also. The thimble is marked as being a size 10. The silk could stand to be cleaned. But it is set well into it's case and there are no loose area's. almost a miracle in it's self! The wood frame has twisted a bit over the decades, and doesn't sit flush on the front corners. Lovely sewing case. With several pieces in solid silver, unmarked( tested) circa around 1880, I believe french as it is a period around this time when it was not obligatory the silver hallmarks for french silver, Only Thimble has hallmarks for London 1886, but it has different decoration, more plain not so ornate as the other ones, and is for sure a replacement. This set is really beautifull but it has some issues: Scissors are broken. Knife the blade also a bit broken at the point, the tape measure, really cute, in good condition but the silk measure inside the silver is in tears, Thimble and pen in good condition, pricker has a small ding and the last and rarest, the beautiful amethyst glass scent/perfume bottle with original inner stopper in same rare colour and silver lid, cut glass in shape of diamonds, the neck rim has some chips, measures ... more6 cm in height( in inches 2" 1/4) all of them inside the original velvet lined case which is really really worn.Please study all photos for your consideration, this is part of my description. The y are stamped with the rams head Parisian gold hallmark for 18 Kt gold(750/1000 pure) used from 1819-1838. The shanks have classical fluted and acanthus leaf designs and the sides of the bows are reeded. The condition is excellent with no dents. Repairs or other damage and t hey measure 5 1/4" long. The steel blades are tight with intact points and they cut pretty well. The gold has no dents. Splits, repairs or other damage and they weigh 25.6 grams.
