Description Wonderful antique bone( cattle- Bovine species) small sewing winding or netting clamp. Which has been deeply carved with birds and butterflies, and so typical of Cantonese export carving of the early 19th century. AGE The clamp dates to the middle of the 19th century. Circa 1850's. SIZE The clamp measures 10.5cm(4" high. 3cm(1¼" deep and 0.5cm(¼" wide. CONDITION The clamp is in very good condition for considerable age. With no damage to the bone, although there would have been two disks to the winder section and only one remain. Also i think there would have been a small finial to the top of the clamp(where small hole is drilled) and this is missing. Please refer to the above photographs for details of condition. The crochet hook measures 7" and the awl is 3& 3/4" long. The hook is a little different because it has additional turning half way down the shaft. Very good condition-from late 1800's- early 1900's. Up for auction is a collection of five carved bone sewing tools. These are all antique and in used condition. The group consists of two needle cases. Two awls and one ribbon threader. The first needle case measures 3 inches by just over ¼ inches wide. It twists apart to reveal the needle compartment. There is a tiny area of loss to the top of the screw edge. A single, scrimshaw line completes the top. The second needle case measures 2 ¼ inches by ¼ inches wide. It screws apart to reveal the needle compartment. There is a ¼ inch vertical crack on the top. It has two scrimshaw lines on the lid as well. This lot includes two sewing awls. One has a large hole that may have contained a Stanhope at one time. They measure 2 ½ inches tall and ¼(plus) wide. Very Early Antique Dress Makers Measuring Tape Hand Carved Ivory Bone Silk This is a very old and quite unusual dress makers measuring tape. Although it looks to be French in its construction. The fact that it is a yard measure suggests that it may be early American. It is either bone or ivory and the body of the canister appears to be older than the top which makes me think it might be a marriage. But the spool and body are very old as is the tape itself. I have never seen a numbering sequence quite like the one on this silk tape. Its end notation is 1 yd but it is not a true yard, more like 35" And the measurement at the beginning of the tape is pretty baffling. From tip to base the container and spool measure 1.5"so miniature. The numbering system suggests this is a 17th or 18th century tape but I am not an expert on this items ... moreso please examine the extensive set of photos to make your determination. Serious downsizing means that this and many other wonderful items must go so check out my other auctions for outstanding buys. Antique Carved Bone Bodkins Awls Fids Sewing Tools 6 Pcs
This is a very nice lot of 5 carved bone bodkins and one carved bone cap( The first bodkin from the left is about 4" tall. The next is 3 3/8" the third is 3 1/4" the fourth is 2 3/4" and the last bodkin is 2 3/4" The last mystery piece is also made of bone and was stored with the bodkins. It is about 1" long and has a deep hollow center. I thought it might be a cap but it didn't fit any of the items in the sewing box. The first bodkin has more brown bone"specs" on one side than the other. The 3rd bodkin from the left has a flat area which looks like the bone wasn't as thick at that spot when the bodkin was carved. It does look original to the carving and not later damage. All the bodkins are in very good antique condition.

Carved Bone Bodkin Set in All Original Presentation Case 5 Pieces Complete
Offering an antique faux ivory or bone bodkin set in its original presentation case. 5 pieces. The first carved bone piece on the bottom looks like a crochet hook with barbs at both ends, the next up is a piece with a faux ivory or bone handle with a needle like tip with a tiny barb- this one actually has a metal grommet at the end holding the bon on. Another single crochet hook type on one end, a bone handled piece with a metal barb and the last is another faux ivory piece with the metal barb. I thought all of these pieces were original to the case- although their materials& construction designs look different. Case measures approx. 5.25" long by 3" tall by 1" deep. Outside of box is in black grained faux leather paper. Overall good condition- interesting set.
