They are Italian from the famous steel making Campobasso city and are stamped with the maker’s initials. If you look at the picture you will note that there’s a tiny disc by the tip of one of the blades. When trying to cut off the selvages of a fabric to get the proper width or length you need to cut a straight line. This auction is for a very neat pair of antique embroidery scissors in the shape of a bird or stork. The scissors measure almost 4 inches long. They are in excellent condition and still work beautifully. I believe they were gold plated. But some of the gold has rubbed off over time. The stamp inside the scissor(photo 4) says, H H Hill, Solingen, Germany" Sorry it is so hard to see. It is very clear with a magnifying glass. These were made in the early 1900's. It came inside of it, and fits beautifully, so I thought they went together, but the red leather case is marked, Firenze" so it is Italian made, not German. Antique Graef & Schmidt Sewing Scissors / Shears Made In Germany Circa 1890
These Lovely Antique Sewing Shears Are From Graef& Schmidt Circa 1890 They Were Were Made In Germany William Graef& Carl Schmidt were former salesman for the Peters Brothers Co. who opened up their own manufacturing and importing cutlery company in 1884 on# 29 Warren Street in NYC. At first they were cutlery importers. They and their heirs were the exclusive U.S. importers of J. A. Henckels Twin Works cutlery from 1884 to about 1948. Although no Henckels knives were imported to the USA between 1942 and 1950. According to the 1888 Illustrated New York- The Metropolis of Today. Graef and Schmidt were among the most active and enterprising manufacturers and importers of"high-class cutlery. They manufactured and imported"only the finest lines of pocket cutlery, butcher knifes, scissors, razors, etc. In addition to importing ... moreHenckels cutlery. When they first started they also imported their own"private brand" cutlery made for them with their name. This is one of those scissors. Later they purchased their own manufacturing plant in New Jersey where they made medical instruments and scissors. These scissors were not marked"Germany. As a result of the dates and the fact these shears have their own company name and are marked"Germany" The scissors are most probably from the late 1800s. These scissors are 6 3/4" long. Probably made in Germany in the first part of the 20th century. Marked BOKER with a logo that is not familiar to me, but probably very early.
