This auction is for a Large Vintage Silver Plate Handled Fruit Basket with a Pedestal Base. Measures approx. 11 3/4" in length by 9 1/2" wide and stands about 4" tall to lip. Measures about 11" to top of handle when extended. Fluted decorative bowl. Scallops around rim. The handle is strong and secure with no visible repair. A small amount of pitty area in base of bowl. See photos, but was hard to see. Cannot find a maker mark anywhere. Polished up nice. Acquired at auction from an old Chambersburg Pa family. Engraved in beautiful flowing script" C.B. Antique Heavy Sterling Silver Two Handled Ornate Sugar Bowl: 432 Grams
Up for auction is this antique two handled bowl. Maybe this is a large sugar bowl. The only markings I can find on the bottom is a hand etched"WM" Tested with acid on the bottom in two areas. It appears to be sterling as the acid turned dark red. I do believe it to be sterling, but if you find otherwise, or are not satisfied for any reason you may return it. The handles perhaps are copper clad with silver, they do seem to have a different tone.or maybe the patina is just varied. Weight: 432 grams 7 7/8" wide(outer handle to outer handle) 3 5/8" deep 4 1/2" tall(top of handles) There is no lid. A very pretty old silver piece. Nicely shaped, beautiful details. Tall 14" Early Victorian 1830 Handled Vase Hand Painted Cobalt Ornate Gold Gild
Up for your consideration is this stunning Tall Early Victorian Vase. This vase was acquired by my great great grandmother of French origin around 1830. It has stayed in the same family for over 170 years. I was told by an appraiser that this piece is unmarked because it was not meant for export. I have a letter that documents who owned this vase and how it was acquired. This vase was acquired by saving coffee coupons as a promotion to sell coffee at a time when coffee was sold and delivered as many of us remember milk being delivered door to door. What is unclear. Because my great great grandmother lived in Cologne Germany, was if this was acquired in Germany or in the United States. The letter, dated July 19, 1987, verifying its origin will be included with this vase. It is an exquisite hand painted vase with beautiful pink roses. The cobalt ... moreblue and the generous use of gold gild, all typical of that early Victorian period. The handles give this piece an rich ornate appearance. It is in absolute perfect condition with no chips. Cracks or evidence of repair. The gold gilding shows very little wear, most probably because it has been displayed only and not handled for so many years. The evidence of age can be seen on the bottom of this piece in photo# 11. It measures 13 3/4" Tall. 8" wide from handle to handle with a top opening of 4" The base is 4 5/8" round. It weighs nearly 5 lbs. A superb piece to add to your early Victorian Collection. 1940's VINTAGE VANITY TRAY. 1940's era heavy. Sturdy metal vanity tray. The sides are an embossed brass-plated metal and the handles are solid brass. There are no black spots on the mirror and no cloudiness. No cracks or chips. There is a little VERY FAINT age foxing that you can only see if you hold the mirror up close and tilt it in a certain light. This is very difficult to see and definitely doesn't detract from the great looks of this vintage piece. There are a couple small spots on the side where the brass plating wore off(and the metal underneath is actually a brighter gold- SEE LAST PHOTO) And the velvet on the BOTTOM SIDE is in bad shape, however there's still enough left to make the tray totally non-skid, so this doesn't have to be replaced since it can not be seen when displaying(or could be easily replaced, ... moreif desired, with some non-stretch velvet or felt and a little all-purpose glue) There are no dings, dents or rust to the metal. Lovely. Ornate- so Victorian! Silverplate Bride's Basket In Victorian days. A very common and suitable gift for a young bride or bride-to-be would be a silver or silverplate Bride's basket. She would place it on the front table where it would soon be filled with well-wishes from family and friends. The main features of the basket are the handle and the wide rim. The basket is also somewhat raised on its base. So it appears very much like a real basket you might see made of straw and natural materials. So it takes one somewhat aback to see the basket design in the more elegant medium of silverplate. This one has such a lovely. Ornate repousse design to it! It is just a very lovely example of a Victorian Bride's Basket. Basket with one of the sweetest handles I've seen- it is almost a double handle- or at least it part of it ... moreis a double handle design- quite rare and unique! Up for bid is this pair of unusual scissors. The handles of these scissors are very ornate and I think are sterling or possibly silverplate. But they are not marked, so cannot guarantee what the metal is. I don't have any idea what these scissors were used to cut, so if anyone knows, please let me know as I'm curious. In the center of the fork there are nicely swirled cut-outs and a lovely flower is cut-out of the center. The entire outside of the for has a delicate scalloped edge. Mixed with large and small scallops. The two outside prongs come to a point. The handle of the for is smooth and angled on the outside edges. The handle is marked"Sterling Handle. The fork is large, it measure roughly 9" long from tip to end. The fork portion of the fork is about 3.75 inches long and 2.75 inches wide at the widest point. Cracks or damage. There is some light gold paint wear on the dolphin fish handles that is seen on very close up inspection but I consider that to be pretty trivial. This is an auction for a vintage. I believe, lovely MADE IN JAPAN Majolica style ornately decorated vase that appears to be shaped like an urn with 2 deep navy handles. It is in good gently used condition, given its age, with 4 tiny flea bite type chips on the top and the usual crazing. There is a row of women, I believe surrounding the base done in shades of blues, deep rose, greenery at the top in a garland motif, and very detailed. Now that I look more closely, it is possible that the deep color might be black instead of navy blue.my eyesight isn't as good as some. Still, it is a lovely piece of older pottery that would lovely with flowers in it, or just gracing a table. Wendell Hotel - Pittsfield Mass. - 1898 - Ornate Handled Silver Candy & Nut Dish
Here is a very rare 1898 to 1915 era bottom marked 2” tall by 7 1/8” from end to end across the handles) by 3 5/8” wide double handled pedestal base silver plate nut dish/ small serving dish/ candy dish made for the Wendell Hotel that was located in Pittsfield Massachusetts. This is the first and only such nut dish like this that I’ve seen marked for the Wendell. I’m sure that not many of these have survived over the several years since it was made. Historically. The Wendell was opened in 1898. The beautiful six-story 125-room hotel was located in downtown Pittsfield at the corner of 8 South and West Streets near the city’s Park Square. The hotel’s original owner was Samuel W. Bowerman. But only a short time later in 1899, Bowerman had to stop his hotel operations and another company came in to operate the actual hotel. By 1900. New owners ... morewere successful in keeping the most opulent hotel in business. One of the most important places at the hotel was its Tap Room, were dinners and beverages were provided to guest for all types of social settings for those who would gather there. It was also during this time that community of Pittsfield was also home to many wealth people, which were referred to as“Cottageers” By 1924. The hotel’s then owner, Napoleon A. Campbell, conducted a major construction project at the hotel which added a second wing onto the hotel. Again in 1930, Campbell made more addition to the hotel increasing the room capacity to 250. Campbell operated the hotel for several more years thereafter. Also in the 1930’s, the hotel added something interesting to its amentias, as it was the first commercial application of an artificial snow machine. But by 1944. The hotel was sold to the Sheraton Hotel Co. which operated it as the Pittsfield Sheraton until it again was sold in 1953. The hotel’s last name that it operated at was the Wendell– Sherwood Hotel. Antique Vintage Ornate Art Nouveau Trophy Award 2 Handled Owl Crest Signed Dated
This is a fantastic antique trophy. This is from the North Carolina area. It has been in my family for a very long time. It is from the art nouveau era. It is very ornate and has a little crest on the front with an owl/ hand shake and 07 on the bottoom of the crest. There are more details to the crest but I don't have a detail magnifier to see what they are. It has two handles and on a little base. The bottom has initals and numbers JB1938. Total height 7 1/8" tall Bottom Base 2 1/4" I have not polished it because I like the aged look to it. I will leave that to the new owners decision. It is a heavy trophy for its size. I am not sure what the metal is but it has a look of bronze. I am just not sure. The whole trophy has a lot of detail work. This item is being sold in a used pre-owned condition. It's 12.5" diameter and 17" handle to handle. It has 3 hallmarks on the bottom. They are all in a shield- the first is fading and I can make it out. The second looks like a sword with wings and the 3rd looks like a W. It's in Very Good Condition. It has tarnish and it looks like a coppery tone coming through the embossed center. This is a beautiful oriental plate with embossed and incised decorative features. It also has a wonderfully subtle celadon glaze. The Pagoda is embossed and the ivy leaves are set into a lower panel. Behind the pagoda is the line of a hillside. The plate has a scalloped edge and measures about 8 ½ inches in diameter. It has no chips or cracks. There is tiny(1-2 mm) rub on the left edge at about the level of pagoda. I have tried to picture it but it is so small it resists the camera. The bottom rim of the plate is unglazed. We are not certain of the age of this plate. And there are no marks, but it is older rather than newer. The very pale blue/green celadon glaze is pooled in spots on the back. Please see the pictures. Musical instruments, Urns and Flowers. All surrounded with the intricate work of Scrolls and Foliage. Having a double handle witch has a small amount of pierced work. A blank Cartouch to each end of the tray. To the centre there are a pair of Cupids cuddling surrounded by scroll work and an Oyster shell. The rim of the tray has a Cupids face to either side.
