A scissor case is found on top of the box with the original decorative scissors, marked"Clauss, USA" This box is irregularly constructed to accomodate various sizes of spools& measures 6 1/2" long, 1" high& 1 3/4" on one end& 1 1/4" on the other. The little needle case has some tiny needles and is stamped with the French boar's head hallmark for 800 silver. All of the tools are in excellent condition with no dents or other damage. The chatelaine measures about 4 1/4" long as shown. It is stitched onto a fabric covered board with the top chain curled around for framing. It can be removed by snipping a couple of threads and the length would be about 6" with the top chain stretched ... moreout. The top has a pin so it could be pinned to the doll's(or child's) clothing. It was once in the collection of Diane Pelham Burn and this is the piece that was photographed in plate 17 on p. 49 of her book Sew Precious. Children's Needlework Tools& Dolls' Sewing Tools. Antique Bone Ring Ribbon Chatelaine Hi and Welcome This charming chatelaine dates back to the late 1800's or early 1900's and is likely to have been Shaker made. It's put together with pale blue. Silk ribbon and bone rings(there are 19 rings) woven together to make a chain. The silk ribbon is in fragile and shattering condition but all of the other parts of the set are in amazingly good shape. There's a small. Silk, 2 leaf needlebook and a tiny, strawberry emery made from the same silk with an embroidered top. There's also a pair of 2+5/8" needlework scissors, a 3" glove darner and a 4+1/2" sock darner that look like thy were never used. Antique Steel Embroidery Scissors with Decorative Brass Sheath. 4 5/8 inches long, unmarked, probably European, probably late 1800’s, the scissors are undecorated and the steel has discoloration from oxidation, one tip is slightly bent, the brass sheath is 2 ¼ inches long and has an embossed design, there is discoloration from oxidation but no cracks in the seams, beautiful design is on both sides, the sheath was a necessary item to keep one from poking oneself with sharp embroidery scissors, they often became lost, this is a very nice example of an early sewing tool even though it is on a very ordinary pair of scissors. Vintage 1800's 16" Scissors Shears Dressmaking Tailor No Rsv Antique Industrial?
This auction is for a really great pair of antique scissors. They measure about 16 inches in length! They have what appears to be a brass hinge. We've seen others that were virtually identical listed as being faintly marked from 1845& made in New York. We can't find a stamp mark on ours. But believe that it could be there but due to age we can't see it. We were tempted to try to polish them up to see if we could find anything, but don't want to ruin the lovely patina these have. Description Antique early Victorian seam knife. Which has been produced from steel, with faux tortoiseshell panels to the handle. The tool would have been used in for needlework, to un-stitch seams and to make small holes in work(button holes etc) although it may also have been used to sharpen writing quills(like many other needle works tools, which have duel purposes! AGE The seam tool would date to the middle of the 19th century. Circa 1850, and was found in a Victorian sewing box, along with other antique needlework tools. It is in the form of a book and covered with brown leather. The sides are gold embossed with scrolls. Birds, fountains and decorative borders. The'spine' is embossed'Lady's Companion' The interior is lined with velvet and printed paper(all original) The leather is in excellent overall condition. Much better than usually seen. The top is gold stamped with the maker or retailer's name, I. Bagshaw, 96 Church Street, Liverpool" It's 4 1/8" tall. 3 1/8" wide and 1 7/8" deep. Some in this style are shown on p. 92 of of Bridget McConnel's book The Story of Antique Needlework Tools. The sterling silver tools(tested) include a ... morethimble. A tape measure, a propelling pencil and a sterling topped perfume bottle. Also included are steel scissors, steel tweezers/earspoon, steel seam knife a spool and a packet of needles. The last two items are in the'secret drawer' below the thimble rest. The steel tools are held in a leather needle book which has moth damage to the wool needle page. The silver tape measure has a silk tape marked in inches and works well to wind in back in. The thimble has an applied band and wriggle work engraving. It has 3 tiny needle holes but you have to look for them. The condition is otherwise excellent. It's about an American size 9(16 mm diameter opening) The little scissors(3 5/8" long) have tight blades and sharp points and cut very well. The propelling pencil works well(twists out the lead) and it holds a 0.7 mm lead. It is stamped with the maker's name. Sampson Mordan. The cut glass perfume bottle has the original glass stopper, a sterling top and has no chips or cracks. The other tools are also in great shape with no damage. Silscis3 Ornate Sheathed Antique Sterling Silver Scissors English* Circa 1840 These wonderfully ornate sterling silver(tested) handled embroidery scissors and their sterling sheath are at least 170 years old. The shanks are modeled with grape clusters and vines. Snakes go around the bows and grapes decorate the sheath. They were made in England in the early 19th century. Probably by Joseph Taylor of Birmingham. English silversmiths didn't mark small items(and have to pay duty on them) until required to by law in the early 1880s. They have tight blades. Sharp points and cut beautifully. There is no rust and t he silver on the scissors is also in excellent condition with no dents. Splits or repairs. The sheath is a nice snug fit on the scissors. Offering as is a Pair of 5 1/4" Antique Scissors ca 1900. These were made in Germany by Krusius Bros. for the Broadway Department Stores near the turn of the century. They were originally gold and silver plated over steel and you can still see tiny traces of that on this pair.
