ANTIQUE ORNATE STERLING (?) OR SILVERPLATE HANDLED SCISSORS
Up for bid is this pair of unusual scissors. The handles of these scissors are very ornate and I think are sterling or possibly silverplate. But they are not marked, so cannot guarantee what the metal is. I don't have any idea what these scissors were used to cut, so if anyone knows, please let me know as I'm curious. These measure 6 1/4" long. I could find no markings of any kind on these scissors other than the number 73 on the blade. If you have any questions, please contact me. Great trimming scissors these are! Ornate sterling silver handles on very sharp scissors. Scissors measure approx.4& 1/4th X 2& 1/8th inches. There is a small dent on inside of one of the handles plus a small gap on one of the seams. See photos. Handles are marked"Sterling" scissor blades are marked Germany. This auction is for a gorgeous pair of small sterling handled embroidery scissors. They measure 3 1/2 inches long. I believe they are from the mid 1800's. You can see the small round mark on the top handle in photo 2.this reads. sterling silver" and other hallmarks that I cannot make out. The blades are marked, Germany" the only flaws I see are that one blade has a tiny bit broken off(photo 9) and when the handles are closed the blades don't match up perfectly.only when the handles cross a tiny bit(photo 8) Gorgeous pair of beautifully made early scissors. Offered here is a lovely pair of German-made. Antique sterling silver sewing or embroidery scissors. The scissors measure approximately 5.5" long overall, the handles are decorative with a beautiful flower and scroll pattern, and each handle is marked"Sterling. The blades are marked"Germany. These scissors have clearly been lovingly used in the past(I have had them myself for 40+ years) as there is a dent in the handle where the two handles have been brought together(shown in the photos) Otherwise there do not appear to be any repairs or other issues with these beautiful antique scissors. Silscis3 Ornate Sheathed Antique Sterling Silver Scissors English* Circa 1840 These wonderfully ornate sterling silver(tested) handled embroidery scissors and their sterling sheath are at least 170 years old. The scissors shanks are modeled with birds and flowers and the bows are laurel wreaths. Flowers and foliage decorate the sheath. They were made in England in the early 19th century. Probably by Joseph Taylor of Birmingham. English silversmiths didn't mark small items(and have to pay duty on them) until required to by law in the early 1880s. They have tight blades and cut beautifully to the tips. The silver on the scissors is in excellent condition with no dents. Splits or repairs. The sheath is a nice snug fit on the scissors. The scissors measure 3 5/8" long(4" in the sheath) They were probably once part of a boxed set ... moreof tools. The sheath has a chain to attach it to a chatelaine and it threads through loops on the sides of the scissors' bows. It has the English sterling hallmarks for London 1874 and the maker's mark for Henry William Dee. The sheath is also marked for Thornhill. An elegant New Bond Street establishment. The scissors are almost 4" long. The steel blades have most of their original polished surface and no rust. They have tight blades. Intact points and cut beautifully to the tips. Silscis3 Ornate Antique Sheathed Sterling Silver Scissors English* Circa 1830 These exceptional sterling silver(tested) handled embroidery scissors and their sterling sheath are 180+ years old. Beautifully chased birds(doves) and flowers decorate the shanks and garlands of leaves form the bows. A scrolling floral design is on the sheath. They were made in England in the early 19th century. Probably by Joseph Taylor of Birmingham. English silversmiths didn't mark small items(and have to pay duty on them) until required to by law in the early 1880s. The blades are tight with sharp points and they cut very well. The silver on the scissors(and sheath) is in excellent condition with no dents. Repairs or other damage. Antique STERLING SILVER SCISSORS with Ornate BEADED HANDLE DESIGN - Petite Size
These small sterling silver scissors have been in my antique scissor collection for nearly 30 years. I don't know their history or actual age but they are stamped Sterling on the handle. The blades have oxidation due to their advanced age. They are quite petite and measure 3 1/2" long and 1 3/4" wide and are in nice working condition. I was a quite an active seamstress for many years and I displayed my collection of antique scissors in an ornate frame on the wall in my sewing room. We're downsizing now and I'm letting go of many of my extraordinary possessions after 40 years of enthusiastic collecting and I'm hoping that someone new will enjoy the beauty of these antique scissors as much as I have.

A thread holder winder, a sewing needle case with a letter"R" wax seal on the base. PLEASE check the combined shipping policy before payment! Offered is a highly ornate sterling silver boxed set of antique sewing tools. This includes two sets of matching scissors. Two button/sewing hooks, and one silver thimble. Box: Very good condition with some loss of leather to outside corners. But much better than is expected. Interior is very clean with no damage to formed velvet or satin lining. Brass hook style closure works well and latches firmly. Scissors: Beautifully ... moreornate matching floral pattern. Both marked Sheffied on steel blades. Large scissors with makers and date mark. Small scissors unmarked, but obviously a match set. Due to weight I have doubts that the large scissors have hollow handles though I have no way to know one way or the other. The tips of neither scissor's blades quite meet, but both cut well. Button/Sewing hooks: Excellent condition. Though both have a floral pattern that would be appropriate for this set. Neither are a perfect match for the formed box. This is how I found it so I'm listing it as found. Thimble: Excellent condition. Fully round with no damage. No hallmarks or size. But test at 80-90% silver. Fits perfectly into the large form. The more I look at the beautiful shield pattern beneath the crown I think I see initials, but I'm just not sure. Either way it's a very regal pattern. I wish there had been room to list more photo's. There is a lot more detail I would have liked to show you. But being limited to only 12 photo's I was forced to decide which were the most important.
