They are built from 24 gauge Galva Neal which is a metal that is prepared to make any paint adhere to it and not chip or peal off. If you like them in your home I can also build a special hanger that can be installed so there are no holes in the wingtips. The design is classic French Revolution and the piece features two cherubs at the handles along with the traditional pineapple at the lid. The"United Wilson" foundry mark is clearly visible at the inside base along with the date 1897. I am told that these are copies of the originals that sell for more than $12.00 each. I paid $3,000 for the pair back in 2000 when I bought them from an antique dealer in San Francisco, CA. Each urn measures approximately 7" X 7" at the base. It's decorated with a hand painted scene in gold of men gesturing to bowls on a table. The box is approx. 7.75" X 2.25" and it's 1.25" tall. The inside of the box is sectioned and looks like a pencil box or perhaps for calligraphy. But I'm uncertain. I purchased this an estate auction and am uncertain of its exact age but believe it to be several decades old. There's some light wear with a chip in the lacquer on the inside lid edge enough to see that the box is made of wood. The lid has 3 little places with lacquer loss from wear.
