Up For Sale! A very nice mid 18th century pinchbeck Etui with original belt hook and all implements. The Etui was a small case that contained miniature implements used to perform household tasks. Designed primarily for women. An Etui would contain necessaire items that could include sewing items such as thimble. Needles, scissors, and thread, pencil, ivory writing tablet and a small knife. Men also carried a larger version of the Etui which might include such items as drafting instruments. Done in Rococco style the case features Maidens on each side with floral cuts at the bottom. The belt hook features a Maiden holding a small child and below that are to child Angels. The case contains steel cut scissors. A gilt folding knife, a pencil lead holder, two needles(large and small) and 3 leaf ivory writing slip. The case is in excellent condition ... morewith a tight lid hinge. The overall length is 7 3/4" The Etui alone is 4" long and 13/4" wide at the top. This is a very nice complete piece and will make a nice addition to anyone's collection. This is 18th c Enameled Porcelain, the baby is swaddled with his/ her blanket, and the darling baby cap is adorned with lace trim and ribbons. Tape15 Antique Seated 18th Century Lady Tape Measure Germany* Circa 1900 This nice little tape measure is made of celluloid and is in the form of a seated 18th century lady reading a book. The tape springs back in when pulled out and works perfectly. The original woven tape is complete and marked in both inches and centimeters. There are a couple of tiny chips at the edge of the hole the tape retracts into. But the condition is otherwise perfect. The base is 1 3/8" in diameter and she is 2" high. Antique Steel Persian Scissors w/ Damascene Work & Silver Sheath * 18th Century
Scissors20 Antique Steel Persian Scissors/ Silver Sheath 18th Century These elegant dagger like steel scissors are Persian and have folding bows that open for use. Both sides are decorated with scrolling silver inlaid Damascene work. They measure 8 1/4" long. They have intact points. Tight blades and cut paper very well. They are Persian calligraphy scissors and paper is what they were designed to cut. They were made in the 1700s and the condition is unusually excellent with no rust or other damage. They came to me in a solid silver sheath. It has German 800 silver hallmarks(800/1000 pure silver) and dates to the mid-late 1800s. It's lined with velvet and fits the scissors so well that I think a nineteenth century owner may have had them made for the scissors. The silver sheath is heavy and solid and weighs 32.2 grams. It is 6" ... morelong and the scissors measure 8 3/8" when in the sheath. Scissors like these are shown on p. 291 of Frédérique Crestin-Billet's book La folie des Ciseaux. Description Here is a nice 18th century pair of iron scissors in good original working condition. The iron surface has a nice patina from age with a faint engraved makers name which can be seen in the photos. The handles open and close nicely. In total measuring 11 inches long.
