Antique Shaker Silk Ribbon Bone Ring Chatelaine Darner~Strawberry Emery~Scissors
Antique Bone Ring Ribbon Chatelaine Hi and Welcome This charming chatelaine dates back to the late 1800's or early 1900's and is likely to have been Shaker made. It's put together with pale blue. Silk ribbon and bone rings(there are 19 rings) woven together to make a chain. The silk ribbon is in fragile and shattering condition but all of the other parts of the set are in amazingly good shape. There's a small. Silk, 2 leaf needlebook and a tiny, strawberry emery made from the same silk with an embroidered top. There's also a pair of 2+5/8" needlework scissors, a 3" glove darner and a 4+1/2" sock darner that look like thy were never used. In fact I don't see any holes in the emery or the needlebook pages, either. It is rare to find a set like this in such good condition. Which has been deeply carved with birds and butterflies, and so typical of Cantonese export carving of the early 19th century. AGE The clamp dates to the middle of the 19th century. Circa 1850's. SIZE The clamp measures 10.5cm(4" high. 3cm(1¼" deep and 0.5cm(¼" wide. CONDITION The clamp is in very good condition for considerable age. With no damage to the bone, although there would have been two disks to the winder section and only one remain. The condition is excellent with no chips. Cracks or other damage. It measures almost 1 1/2" long and came from a Regency sewing workbox. It has the original silk tape that has been marked in inches(begins at 2 inches) The turned finial on top turns to wind the tape back in and it works perfectly. The bone stop is also original. The crochet hook measures 7" and the awl is 3& 3/4" long. The hook is a little different because it has additional turning half way down the shaft. Very good condition-from late 1800's- early 1900's. LOT OF 5 ANTIQUE CARVED BONE SEWING TOOLS INCLUDING TWO NEEDLE CASES
Up for auction is a collection of five carved bone sewing tools. These are all antique and in used condition. The group consists of two needle cases. Two awls and one ribbon threader. The first needle case measures 3 inches by just over ¼ inches wide. It twists apart to reveal the needle compartment. There is a tiny area of loss to the top of the screw edge. A single, scrimshaw line completes the top. The second needle case measures 2 ¼ inches by ¼ inches wide. It screws apart to reveal the needle compartment. There is a ¼ inch vertical crack on the top. It has two scrimshaw lines on the lid as well. This lot includes two sewing awls. One has a large hole that may have contained a Stanhope at one time. They measure 2 ½ inches tall and ¼(plus) wide. These tools were manufactured between 1840 and 1870. They are very nicely turned and have fine detail remaining. They include two single-ended crochet needles. A sewing stiletto. A bodkin fid punch, lace-making tool and a double crochet hook. There is another item which is a mystery. They are in over very good condition. Only the double crochet hook appears to have one broken hook. All other tools are in great functional order. One side has an attached horseshoe, please note there is some staining to the bone, the other is inscribed as shown in pictures, this piece was presented to JT Pedder(James Pedder) by the workmen of Hancocks India Rubber Works Goswell Road, the company and the recipient are well documented making this piece date somewhere in the early to mid 1800s, Hancocks India Rubber Works is the starting point for tires as we know them today. Pedders, as well as the Hancock family were well connected throughout England, the United States and India. This piece opens and has two purple sleeves for small tools or writing instruments, the piece measures 5 3/4 inches long and 3 inches wide, this is fresh to the market, good luck and happy bidding! I think the others are ivory or bone. I could not see any name or size markings. They measure in size from 2 7/8 inches to about 4 7/8 inches in length. The knitting needle has a number 10 incised on the side.
