Antique Garment crimp pat'd 1875 original hand roller
I have been told that this is a garment roller press that was used to crimp collars. Sleeves and lower hem in ladies dresses. This is not my area of expertise so I am going with this description. This has all original paint with a silver stripe around the base. Also the rollers appear to be brass. Adjustment lever puts pressure on the rollers and also another screw adjustment to left of bottom lever. Also this has a C clamp attachment that would allow this to be clamped to a table top. The person knitting would place the sheath inside his or her waist band then insert the end of her knitting needle into the small hole in the end of the handle. This allowed for continued knitting while traveling on a long horse and buggy ride or ocean voyage. This piece of folk art is rich in details carved the full length of the shaft. It bears the initials EH x H. It belonged to a woman born in Northern England in the mid 1800's. The bag shows a southern belle sewing(using real thread) Made out of gray moire fabric on outside and lined inside with peach silk fabric. Outside of bag has needlework: southern belle sewing on a bench outside in a garden. There is a cute black scotty dog made out of what looks like real black fur. There are multi color rosette flowers with branches of flowers extending out. There is one Wisteria tree and one long Wisteria tree branch. The trees have purple flowers cascading down. On the ground are green reed plants that go along the front of the bad. The southern belle is wearing a silk peach color bonnet, and peach silk fabric and lace dress. ... moreLaying to the side of her is a large parasol. Her legs and arms or painted onto the gray fabric. There is peach silk ribbon surrounding the sides and top of the bag inside seams. The top of the bag has what feels like a wooden frame and there are three large snaps for closure. Condition: The bag is pretty clean per it's age with a few minor soiled areas(nothing major) There is wear to the peach silk fabric on inside and outside. The inside fabric is shredding. Behind the fabric is stiff, clean muslin fabric. The needle work scene is in very good condition. The scene is slightly faded. The bottom of the bag outside has a few worn places. And the bag handle is worn on top shredding. This is a wonderful sewing bag for collectors. The bag was purchased from the Gloria Winters(Penny on the old Sky King Show from the 1950s. The kit has an English or French silk brocade covered cover with 12 sections inside made from linen with a silky finish. Very Early Antique Dress Makers Measuring Tape Hand Carved Ivory Bone Silk This is a very old and quite unusual dress makers measuring tape. Although it looks to be French in its construction. The fact that it is a yard measure suggests that it may be early American. It is either bone or ivory and the body of the canister appears to be older than the top which makes me think it might be a marriage. But the spool and body are very old as is the tape itself. I have never seen a numbering sequence quite like the one on this silk tape. Its end notation is 1 yd but it is not a true yard, more like 35" And the measurement at the beginning of the tape is pretty baffling. From tip to base the container and spool measure 1.5"so miniature. The numbering system suggests this is a 17th or 18th century tape but I am not an expert on this items ... moreso please examine the extensive set of photos to make your determination. Serious downsizing means that this and many other wonderful items must go so check out my other auctions for outstanding buys. I'm glad I can offer you these antique 19th century ottoman hand forged tailor's scissors. One of the blades got a little twist at the end. Rusty and not very sharp but still in good condition for their age. I've shown them max. folded and unfolded. Great value for collectors and good for decoration.
