Antique Sewing Bird Another of the many vintage sewing/needlework items I am selling from one collector. This item is being sold in"as found" condition. There is plenty of tarnish and patina on it. The only marks I can find on it are on the top of the wings by the head. It is stamped Patent Feb 15 1853. I do not know the actual age of the piece. I have seen plenty of reproductions on the market. This is in working condition the birds mouth opens to hold the fabric for had sewing. There are two pin cushions that were at one time a much darker pink color. I can see the original color on the underside where the fabric meets the metal. 2 Antique UNUSUAL Needle Threaders Sewing Tools& Thumb Ring Thread Cutter This little lot of old sewing tools includes 2 different kinds of needle threaders and a metal thumb ring thread cutter(how handy is that? One needle threader measures 2.25” long when folded. An very thin metal arm pivots out from this metal pocket. The arm has a hole in it and a curiously hooked end. The case is a heavier metal. And on one side is engraved“Rapid Needle Threader, Pat. Pend. Made in U.S.A. here is light discoloration of the metal of the case. The second threader. Made of tin, has“Ebey” embossed on one side of the case, and“Simplex, Pat. Ped. sic] 1914” on the other. It has the finest, tiny wire hook you can imagine! Please see photo. As I recall, the metal band around the case used to slide down revealing maybe more of the wire(not sure) but it is ... morerather stuck in place now. It can probably be loosened and moved with some imagination or oil. The last item is a still sharp thread cutter that fits nicely on my thumb. The Blue& White Darn-Aid was made by Hungerford- the white side is for dark material. The blue side for light colors, the pointed tip is for Glove Fingers, its 5 3/4 inches long and 2 inches wide across the ball end. The Painted Wood one has no marks, its 5 inches long and 2 1/4 inches wide across the ball with the flat edge on the underside. The wood one has the red paint on the top side worn off but otherwise both are in pretty good shape for their age, no chips, cracks, or stains. Antique Victorian Sewing Tape Measures (2)
Included in this lot are two antique sewing tape measures. One is a cat with glass green eyes. this measure is in good condition but shows wear. the tape retracts easily but has a small tear. The second measure is Victorian and appears to be silver but is unmarked. I would guess it is silver but with a low silver content which I cannot determine. this tape retracts with hesitation. Description: 1 Sewing tape measure. Disc type, advertising Enfalac, a breast milk type formula product by Mead Johnson. 2. Advertising"Infant formula nearly identical to Mother's milk and Nursette disposable bottles. Both tape measures were manufactured in Chicago and are printed in both inches and cms. on cotton tape. Both tapes rewind well. But the Enfalac tape stops at the last 3 inches. Both have button stops to allow the tape to brake when necessary.
