Antique J. Wiss & Sons, Newark NJ early 1900's N series Tailors' Shears, 12 3/4"
As best I can tell from searching the history of J. Wiss& Sons shears. These appear to be an early 1900's pair of 4N 12 3/4" long"N" Pattern Tailors' Shears. They have the Wiss Simplex Shear Bolt on them and are marked: Patent Applied For. On the reverse side of the bolt they are marked: J. WISS& SONS, NEWARK, N.J. U.S.A. They are very heavy and will likely be usable for another 100 years with care. This is quoted from the company catalog about the Wiss Simplex Shear Bolt: All the objections and annoyances of the old style bolt done away with. No springs. No levers or other parts to be lost or become out of order. The shear can be easily taken apart and the lint and dirt that invairiably collects under a shear bolt removed, overcoming the annoyance of having shear blades hard to open and close. etc.

Vintage Antique J. Wiss & Sons 16" Scissors Shears
This is a pair of vintage Wiss& Sons scissors or shears(not sure which) The blades are 8" long. Assuming your hands are large enough to open them that wide, and overall 16" in length. These are very sharp and sound like they could do some damage still. Cuts clothe and paper well. They have very slightly pitting(cutting edge does not have the slight pitting due to hardening of the edges) but have great patina and a beautiful brass screw holding them together. They cut well as is. But you want a professional sharpening if you plan on using them a lot. They measure about 12 1/2" long. There is wear on these scissors from normal usage and age. Very sharp and tight. As you can see it is farm fresh and needs good cleaning and will be ready to go to work. Or look good displayed. Was picked at Estate Auction. Antique J WISS & SONS Large 13 3/4" Tailor Seamstress Scissors Shears #7
Up for auction is a pair of antique J WISS& SONS large sheers scissors recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. They are found in good used condition and feature a brass fastener holding the blades together with the maker's mark on one side and PATENT APPLIED FOR on the reverse. One side more pointed than the other. They come together properly and cut easily. The blade is 6.5" There are losses to the black paint, scratches, tarnishing to the metal surface. This item up for auction is a pair of Antique J. Wiss& Sons tailor scissors or shears. They are marked J. Wiss& Sons- Newark N.J. USA on the brass guide. The brass Wiss Simplex Shear Bolt is marked. The simplex shear bolt made it easier to clean fabric lint out of the scissors/ shears. The shears measure approximately 13 1/2" in length overall. The blade is approximately 6 1/2" in length.
