Black paper bottom. Hinged back& push button closure. The hinge is a loos e. Someone replaced three hinge nails with too long of ones. But could be easily replaced with shorter ones. Two are poking through the inside near the thimble space) Please see photos. Inside top has a padded embossed cream color material. There is a stain. Inside bottom is covered in a soft suede material with three fitted spaces for the tools. The suede is dirty from the silver tarnishing. This is an antique sewing etui. It is gorgeous with many of its original tools. A receipt from the 1980s is included. It was purchased in England and declares it to be Russian Victorian. I have no other way of verification. I haven't been able to find anything like it other than this one. It seems to be a rare piece and a rare fund. It is in delicate condition but in good condition considering it's age. One side compartment has come loose but I will leave that to the buyer should they want to repair it. There are places for thread. Needles,pins, tools and all sorts of things. Three of the tool holders in the main compartment come loose and will no longer hold tools. Antique bone, hand inked Indian Totem design-thimble/needle/thread sewing kit
This is a very old carved bone sewing case from my family's curio collection. It stands 3" high and tapers toward the base. The very colorful totem is hand inked in the scrimshaw tradition. The totem is decorated in Indian themes with even a papoose toward the bottom. The totem rests in the grass which trails around the back. The top is a screw on thimble. Inside is a bone needle case with a screw-on top and three outer places to spool thread. It really is beautiful and artistically illustrated. Thanks.

Antique Silk Slipper as Thimble and Needle Holder with Embroidery
Early Victorian silk slipper that was designed to hold a thimble in the toe and a piece of flannel fitted along the length to hold needles. This was hand made. I am including the sterling silver thimble and antique Goldsmith Stern& Co. size 8 with a beaded rim. This slipper was loved and used as the silk on the top has started to fray away. Up for sale is an ever harder to find sewing item. An ornate early 19th Century antique sterling silver Etui case comprised of 4 pieces that combine to include: a sterling silver thimble. A thread holder winder, a sewing needle case with a letter"R" wax seal on the base. There is a crack through thimble approx. 3/8" in length on one side due age and use probably(see close up pic. otherwise in overall great shape and measures 3" high x 11/16" wide. Victorian Sterling Silver Embroidery Set Thimble Scissors Hoop Needle Sharpener
What an awesome estate find! I'm selling this exactly as I found it! The embroidery hoop is marked sterling with the initials NTH engraved in it. The inside part of the hoop. Which is red, fits wonderfully inside, and could be used, if buyer chooses, to actually use this as a hoop. The scissors are marked sterling and Germany The needle sharpener is marked sterling(it's towards the top so I couldn't get a picture) The thimble isn't marked at all The outside of the case is red leather that does show some wear. It doesn't completely close and I'm too scared to force it. This might be an easy fix, but who would really want this closed? The inside is velvet and satin. It is marked James Allen& Co. Charleston, S.C. It measures 6" across and is 1.5" tall. This is such a great set! It would be amazing on a vanity. ... moreOpened and displaying all its treasures!
