Antique Doll's Silver Gilt Sewing Chatelaine w/ 5 Tools * Circa 1890s
Chatlne14 Antique Doll's Silver Gilt Sewing Chatelaine Continental* Circa 1890s This miniature doll sized chatelaine has three chains that are holding 5 items. A tape measure, a needle case, a wax seal, scissors and a thimble. The chatelaine top and chains and all of the tools are gilded silver(test 800-1000 pure) The tape measure has the original marked silk tape. The scissors open and close. The little needle case has some tiny needles and is stamped with the French boar's head hallmark for 800 silver. All of the tools are in excellent condition with no dents or other damage. The chatelaine measures about 4 1/4" long as shown. It is stitched onto a fabric covered board with the top chain curled around for framing. It can be removed by snipping a couple of threads and the length would be about 6" with the top chain stretched ... moreout. The top has a pin so it could be pinned to the doll's(or child's) clothing. It was once in the collection of Diane Pelham Burn and this is the piece that was photographed in plate 17 on p. 49 of her book Sew Precious. Children's Needlework Tools& Dolls' Sewing Tools. Up for sale are a pair of Tailor Shears By R. Heinisch. Condition is good– they are old carbon steel. So they do have tarnish. There is a bit of play to the blades. They measure 11.5” from tip to base and have 4.75” cutting edge. Neat. Heavy, antique set of shears. I do my best to fully describe an item. But feel free to ask questions. Nicedly turned design on each. All are a single crochet hook tool. I did not see any other size markings. The hooks measure about 5 inches and the longer hook is 7 inches in length. Recently purchased at an antique auction; I will also be listing other similiar items so please check out my other items in the next week or so. Each of the 5 hooks is in good condition. They are a little dirty with some wear from use. I believe one the hooks has a broken tip; it is so old that it is hard to notice. It has a hook but the other end does not have a turned top. LOT OF 5 ANTIQUE CARVED BONE SEWING TOOLS INCLUDING TWO NEEDLE CASES
Up for auction is a collection of five carved bone sewing tools. These are all antique and in used condition. The group consists of two needle cases. Two awls and one ribbon threader. The first needle case measures 3 inches by just over ¼ inches wide. It twists apart to reveal the needle compartment. There is a tiny area of loss to the top of the screw edge. A single, scrimshaw line completes the top. The second needle case measures 2 ¼ inches by ¼ inches wide. It screws apart to reveal the needle compartment. There is a ¼ inch vertical crack on the top. It has two scrimshaw lines on the lid as well. This lot includes two sewing awls. One has a large hole that may have contained a Stanhope at one time. They measure 2 ½ inches tall and ¼(plus) wide. Antique Tailor Scissors by R(Rochus) Heinisch. Circa 1900. Blades measure 6.5" and they have a"7" stamped on the base of one blade. The scissors measure 13.5" from tip of blades to tip of handle. No knick/ chips in blades but they could use sharpening. Please take a close look at the photos as they are part of the description. The pair weighs about 2 lbs. They cut thru paper to the tip. But. I can tell they need a sharpening if you are going to be using them for more serious work. Pitting in places. These were painted black some time in their past. No breaks or repairs. Instruction book(copyright 1891) five brass"machines" and the rule which is broken but can be repaired(see arrow) The wooden box is solid with good hinges, carrying handle and two revolving"hook" closures. It has some dirt and a few inconsequential dings but is very good overall. There is an ancient bit of masking tape stuck on the top and a nice monogrammed pair of initials painted on which I think adds to the charm. The book is complete, has a solid spine, and has some minor damage spots but no real serious problems- the worst is a tear on each cover about 1" long. The brass machines appear to be in good order. The only thing I saw wrong was one ... moreof the thumb nuts missing. The rule has the fixed portion broken off the main arm but all pieces are included and it can be glued back on. The scissors are marked near the screw. 1776 GERMANY. I can find no other marks. The handles have an ornate leafy design. The tip is sharp as well as the blades. The screw is a bit loose(tight enough to cut well) but the screw is so tiny I didn't have a screw driver small enough to tighten it. Perhaps you do? IMPORTANT PLEASE READ!
