But have a simple, elegant design The handles are marked"Rd. 555494. The piece was probably made in England ca 1925-30 and the handles are guaranteed sterling and as described. Nicedly turned design on each. All are a single crochet hook tool. One is marked size 6 but I did not see any other size markings. The hooks measure 4 1/2 inches to about 4 7/8 inches in length. LARGE ANTIQUE TAILOR'S SCISSORS TEXTILE SHEARS VINTAGE FABRIC UNMARKED 14 1/4"
This pair of textile. Tailor's scissors measure 14 1/4" overall with 7" sharp blades. I believe that is what the incised 7 is there for. I do not know what the 4 and 8 mean that are incised under the pivot nuts. Otherwise than that. I find no markings at all. The tightening system looks the same to me as the Wiss brand that had pat. applied for and their name on the nuts. Maybe this is a Wiss that was a prototype. Or maybe just another brand that was unmarked. These are in wonderful shape, with 2/3 of the enamel paint still on the handles. They operate smoothly and the adjuster nut and screw work just as they should. They weigh 2 lbs. So you can see why they would have the table"travel foot" on the handle so as not to wear your hand and arm out when using them all day! Fine working order with 1/3 paint loss and light ... moreblade oxidation. Use the zoom feature confirm the fineness of this pair of scissors!

As best I can tell from searching the history of J. Wiss& Sons shears. These appear to be an early 1900's pair of 4N 12 3/4" long"N" Pattern Tailors' Shears. They have the Wiss Simplex Shear Bolt on them and are marked: Patent Applied For. On the reverse side of the bolt they are marked: J. WISS& SONS, NEWARK, N.J. U.S.A. They are very heavy and will likely be usable for another 100 years with care. This is quoted from the company catalog about the Wiss Simplex Shear Bolt: All the objections and annoyances of the old style bolt done away with. No springs. No levers or other parts to be lost or become out of order. The shear can be easily taken apart and the lint and dirt that invairiably collects under a shear bolt removed, overcoming the annoyance of having shear blades hard to open and close. etc.

Scarce Antique Brass 1 3/4" Miniature Beer Stein Tape Measure W/ Thimble Holder
Description Offered at auction is a scarce antique figural beer stein tape measure/thimble holder which stands 1 3/4" tall and is just under 1" in diameter across the base. It is made from brass which has a pressed patten of cavaliers and peasants. There are four people-a woman with a basket. A man who is walking or leaping, a cavalier on a horse and a man with his foot on a stump. The tape draws out from the side and retracts by turning the base-it is not spring loaded. The lid of the stein opens to reveal a place for the thimble. The piece probably dates to the early 1900's may have been made in Germany for export, but it is not marked. It does have"Pat" for"patented" on the bottom. It is in very nice condition with no damage to the stein and the cloth tape which measures in inches. Antique tailor's shears / scissors 12 3/4" long w/ lg brass bolt - unbranded
Up for your consideration is an antique tailor's( or dressmaker's) shears. These heavy shears measure 12 3/4" long and neither the shears nor the large brass pivot bolt have any mark that I can find to indicate their maker. They were well used and this use gives them the"patina" you see in the photos. dings and scratches in the brass. chipped paint on the handles. green paint smeared on the blades(and a bit on the brass) some sort of putty(would chip off with a bit of picking at it) splotched near the pivot. as well as a light coating of allover rust with some pitting. The blades have a slight amount of"play" and would benefit from a tightening or adjustment(I don't know how) they still cut paper fine. and heavy cloth OK if it is near the pivot point. but they would need sharpening and adjusting(and cleaning) ... moreif an attempt were made to use them to cut through fine cloth.
