Beautiful scissors in excellent condition. Available marks are interesting artist and residual signs on one blade! Scissors is heavy. Solid and very strong. Made of tempered steel repeatedly. Scissors cut paper without a problem. Scissors is homespun and was used by a master tailor for cutting thick woolen fabrics. Wonderful exhibit. This auction is for a gorgeous pair of small sterling handled embroidery scissors. They measure 3 1/2 inches long. I believe they are from the mid 1800's. You can see the small round mark on the top handle in photo 2.this reads. sterling silver" and other hallmarks that I cannot make out. The blades are marked, Germany" the only flaws I see are that one blade has a tiny bit broken off(photo 9) and when the handles are closed the blades don't match up perfectly.only when the handles cross a tiny bit(photo 8) Gorgeous pair of beautifully made early scissors. Antique 19TH Century TAILOR SCISSORS /SHEARS 14" Possibly R. Heinisch Inventor
Up for auction is a pair of antique tailor shears/garment scissors. I can find no makers markings on these. But they have THE LOOK of R. Heinisch scissors. I did look at the bolt through a 10x jewelers loop. But still could find no markings. I did not clean the bolt area for fear of ruining the antiquity of this scissor. I was told these were from a Levi's plant here in New Mexico. But I have no proof of such. It is in good used condition. Nice patina, still shows some of the original paint on the handles. I do not know what the wood is, but it has a very fine grain, lustrous patina and the screw action is very smooth. It was almost certainly intended as a sewing etui, but in France these elaborate items were sometimes used to hold a rosary. The clamps measure approx 4" long and approx 2" wide at widest. One pair is early(c. 1850) and is very slim and elegant. They have detailed feather engraving and measure 4" long. The condition is excellent with no rust or damage. They have sharp. Intact points and cut beautifully to the tips. The other pair have gilded bows and rounded points and date to the late 19th or early 20th century. They may have been made for children. They are marked"Pat Appd For" and are 3 3/4" long. They need sharpening. A pair similar to the first of these is shown on p. 115 of Gay Ann Rogers' book The Illustrated History of Needlework Tools.
