Lot of Antique Victorian Carved Bone Crochet Hook and Awl for LaceMaking Very nice Victorian crochet hook and awl hand carved out of bone. I believe these were used in lacemaking. The crochet hook measures 7" and the awl is 3& 3/4" long. The hook is a little different because it has additional turning half way down the shaft. Very good condition-from late 1800's- early 1900's. ANTIQUE FRENCH VICTORIAN CARVED WOOD"EGG" SEWING ETUI Exquisitely carved treen sewing etui. Late 19th century. I do not know what the wood is, but it has a very fine grain, lustrous patina and the screw action is very smooth. It was almost certainly intended as a sewing etui, but in France these elaborate items were sometimes used to hold a rosary. It measures approximately 3 inches(8cm) high and is 1-3/4 inches(4cm) in diameter. Condition is excellent. Apart from a slight chip on the inside of the etui. Shipping: Well packed. Victorian Antique sewing machine tools carved Chinese spool case thread cutter
Offered for your consideration is this neat lot of antique sewing tools. Dating back to the late 1800's. All are finely carved and are really unique. One is a thread cutting knife. It measures 4 1/2 inches long. The next two are bobbin cases. The tops unscrew but not sure if the bottoms had anything. There is threading which allows for something to be attached. One measures 3 7/8 inches and the other is 3 1/2 inches long. Not sure what the last tool is but it looks like thread is wound on it? That measures 5 inches long. A nice set for your collection. The long crochet hook is 5 inches, the smaller one is 2 1/2 inches, the bodkin is 3 inches and the laying tool is 2 3/4 inches. They hooks and laying tool are hand turned with indentations. Parakeetsforpeace You get the BEST from the BUDGIE Antique Victorian era sewing stiletto– carved bone bovine handle spindle design I first thought this piece was a crochet hook with the tiniest damaged bent head I had ever seen. But in researching antique sewing items, this appears to be a stiletto– not a crochet hook– the metal end tapers down to very tiny and has just the bit of a bend at the tip- Below is the research I found on stilletos/ stilettos– For such a surprisingly simple tool. The variety of the stilleto is endless. Essentially, like the sword from which it takes its name, it is a long pointed blade secured to a handle. It was used for making eyelets for cards or laces, but in its finer form could be used for pricking out designs onto the fabric to be embroidered. It was also extensively used for eyelet work, better known today ... moreas Broiderie Anglaise. Stilettos are often found with a sheath to protect the point, or they unscrew and store within the handle. Examples range from the workmanlike to the most elaborate. Size: approx. length of the entire piece is 5 3/4ths inches. Approx length of the carved bone handle is 2 ¼ inches Condition: carved handle is lovely- no chips. No cracks, the metal does show aged patina and possibly some tarnish- I could not find any maker's marks. Carved handle is a Victorian spindle type of design– I have a shoe button hook in this same design alsto listed– in the final photos you can see both pieces together. There is a bit of discoloration in the shoebutton hook– the stiletto does not have this discoloration– both pieces are listed separately. Check out my other items!
