These compotes were made by Frank Whiting and date to around the turn of the century. The compotes are beautifully hand chased with intricate vines. Leaves, and baskets of flowers. Each compote has a monogram in the center of'EEK' in elegant interwoven script. These compotes are in great overall condition. The details of the chasing are nice and crisp. One of the compotes has a little bit of crimping around the base. Which is not very noticeable and will never be seen with normal use. There are no splits, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs. Each piece is hallmarked on the underside with the maker's mark for Frank Whiting. Sterling, and a retail mark for Black, Starr& Frost. Each compote is about 3 inches tall and has a diameter of about 9 7/8 inches. This pattern is known as'SWIRLED BLOCK' and also known as'WESTMORELAND' That name has confused folks at times when they mistakingly think this was produced by the Westmoreland Glass Company. It was made by Gillander& Sons of Philadelphia. PA. in the late 1800's. It is also often mistaken for the'Pillows' pattern by Heisey Glass. A beautifully heavy glass compote. This weighs 4-lbs. Designed as a TRUE OPEN COMPOTE, it never had a lid and has a scalloped top edge. This geometric pattern is gorgeous, very deeply molded. The bowl is attached to the pedestal with a wafer. Antique Boston& Sandwich Flint Glass Compote c.1840 Petal& Loop Pattern Very Early High Resonance Flint Glass DESCRIPTION An unusual base on this bowl! A Boston& Sandwich early flint glass compote in the Petal& Loop Pattern made circa 1840 with a gorgeous silvery luster to the glass. Many Pennsylvania glass companies of a much later period made similar compotes in what they called LOOP- PETAL or TULIP pattern. None have the exact same design or beauty of this honest to goodness Boston& Sandwich Glass piece. The compote has a fiery brilliance. A very silvery apperance to the glass. This was made with a high content of flint giving it a very deep resonant sound when struck, the tone lingers like a bronze bell. In fact, when you just lightly touch this bowl you can hear a faint ring. a remarkable early piece of flint glass! ... moreThe entire design of the bowl is very deeply molded. It has 12 flaring petals that are 1/2" thick and drop down just below the bottom edge of the bowl. The underside of the bowl is quite unusual with it's 6 deep molded circles. The open pedestal base repeats the design of the bowl. This is a very early Boston& Sandwich Flint compote. With it's unusal design to the base of the bowl and the deep joining of the pedestal and bowl. The bowl and the pedestal were made separately and joined together with the typical wafer of molten glass. However on this one the pedestal was pushed well up into the base and you can see were the molten glass of the wafer was pushed out along the edges where the pedestal and bowl meet. Very heavy. This compote weighs more than 4-1/2 lbs. Size: 10-1/4" across x 6-1/4" high x 5" across the base. CONDITION Very Good Condition Expected straw marks from the press and some bubbles. There is some minor wear visable. You can feel a light roughness on the rim edge of a few of the petals and there is one tiny chip on the underside of one petal. Cute Green Glass Compote or Apothecary Jar, Italy Italian Vintage Blown Glass
This beautiful green glass piece appears to be blown- it has the characteristic bubbles as well as the pucker in the middle of the underside. We're guessing it's a vintage Italian piece. While we don't know a lot about glass. It looks very much like some of the mid century Italian pieces online. Please judge for yourself from the pictures. Here's a BEAUTIFUL find from an estate purchase; this came from a very old household in central Kentucky. And I've had it in my collection for a couple years now. This is Adams& Co. Glass. Produced in the vicinity of Pittsburgh with this particular pattern being produced 1885-1891. The pattern has alternating panels of two designs on each side, also known as block and stars. The bottom is in ice blue color, and the top is clear. I am not sure if the manufacturer originally sold mixed colors, or if someone combined the two matching pieces over the years, but I do know it works, and it's striking! Stands about 8 inches tall and 8 1/2 inches wide on the diagonal; ... morequite heavy and really more substantial than you might guess from the photos. Please know that I am extremely tough in grading my pottery. Porcelain and glassware: I've been collecting. Selling and trading antique items for over 30 years, so I know that the only perfect piece is one that just left the factory. And even then it probably has some original-manufacture flaws. I tend to call out flaws that other sellers might not notice or conveniently overlook, so when I tell you it's right, it's right. I want everybody happy. That being said. Here's what I'd note to condition: The lid has surface flakes and small chips at each of the corners of the rim, where glass meets glass. The base has a similar flake at two rim corners. None of this is really visible without close inspection, as it occurs in the edge of the rim only, and does not extend into any cracks or breaks. There is also a faint bit of cloudiness in base glass just under the rim area, probably the effect of trapped moisture, only visible if you hold it up to bright light. All things considered, pretty stunning that a piece of 130-year-old decorative glassware should survive in this state, and you can&

VINTAGE Basket Weave Pattern Glass Compote
This listing is for a beautiful old compote. It has been in the same family for many years. The glass has a slight yellow cast but that may be due to the yellow"stuff" in some of the nooks and crannies. It almost looks like some type of paint was put in it. Whatever it is. I can scrape it off with my fingernail. Only a small part of the glass has this so it would not be hard to clean it up. The pattern is made to look like a basket. The bottom of the main bowl has a raised floral pattern. On the bottom of the dish is the number 8. The seam is on one side of the dish is raised and feels like the maker forgot to finish cleaning up the seam. At the top of that side of the dish the seam is raised higher than the rest of the edge and there is a slight chip on each side of the seam. I had to use a magnifying glass to see it- it is not ... morereadily noticable. This is the only flaw I found. It would look great holding a bunch of fruit or a large candle! I'm not sure of the maker in this case.I'd love to hear from you if you know. Please be aware that the compote does have some sun purpling to it.I don't think that the pictures showed it very well. Some people like the look of sun purple/some don't. I think that this piece looks very pretty with a hint of it. Overall condition is great with no chips or cracks to make note of. Upon close inspection you will notice several small nibbles to the edges as is expected on glass of this age.Very minor but I prefer to make note. No cracks, glass is clear with some waviness and tiny bubbles in the glass, some tiny fleabites along one edge of the bottom of the bowl.
