Antique Victorian Large Pressed Glass Pedestal Compote Dish with Lid- 12.5" Tall This auction is for a Victorian pressed glass pedestal compote dish with lid. According to a friend who is an appraiser for an auction house. This piece is probably from the 1880s, maybe early 1890s. The piece is large, standing 12.5" tall to the top of the finial on the lid, and weighs about 5.5 pounds. without the lid, the dish is about 8.5" tall, 9.5" wide and 7.25" deep(last 2 measurements taken at the top of the dish) There are etched leaf decorations in 4 locations on the dish. The pictures are taken of all 4 sides, then the top, then the bottom. This item is being sold"as is" The condition of the piece is very good plus to excellent. With no chips or cracks I can see or feel. There are a few very small bubbles/imperfections ... morein the glass(so small. They do not pick up well in the photographs) There is some roughness along a few of the edges. Probably from the manufacturing process. I am not an expert. The Metal is casted really thick and has a nice antique but shiny look. It appears to be brass as best as I can describe the color. There is a small chip in one point on the handle of the Lid and a hairline crack under the handle of the Lid(see photo) The Compote and everything else about the Lid is in excellent condition. IT HAS BEEN IN MY POSSESSION FOR SEVENTY YEARS. IT HAS SOME SCRATCHES,CHIPS AND BUBBLES IN THE GLASS, WHICH IS TYPICAL OF HAND-BLOWN PIECES OF THIS AGE. WHILE IN MY POSSESSION IT HAS BEEN USED SOLELY AS A DISPLAY ITEM.
