It is 1 7/8" tall. 1 ... more11/16" in diameter at the top, 1 3/8" in diameter at the base, 2 1/8" from the end of the handle to the edge of the rim, has 10 half-flutes, a 2-part mold, and a finished(fire polished) pontil. It is a deep cobalt with just a hint of purple. It is too small to have a ring to it. There is a little bit of wear to the high points on the base. Some bubbles, a few of which are large in comparison to the glass, some straw marks, a spot to the left of the handle that has 2 or 3 brown streaks of glass that are somewhat marble-like but are too faint to see unless looked at closely, some fleabites around the inner rim as well as some roughness from the mold, and there's a small flake off the upper rim. There are close ups so please take a look at them Other than this, given its age it's in fairly good vintage condition and has no chips, cracks, bruises, fractures, or repairs. Because of the wear around the upper rim it's possible that this is a toy mug for a child rather than a whiskey taster. But whiskey tasters could be this size. So it might have been used as both. As far as color goes. This piece is among the best; especially the thick base. The glass isn't thick enough anywhere else to be able to see the rich, deep, cobalt blue and even there you have to look at it straight on to be able to see the faint hint of red that turns it a tint of purple. That's why even with the small flake on the upper rim, the color of this piece is the reason it has always had a place of honor among my favorite pieces of glass. Antique Boston& Sandwich Flint Glass Compote c.1840 Petal& Loop Pattern Very Early High Resonance Flint Glass DESCRIPTION An unusual base on this bowl! A Boston& Sandwich early flint glass compote in the Petal& Loop Pattern made circa 1840 with a gorgeous silvery luster to the glass. Many Pennsylvania glass companies of a much later period made similar compotes in what they called LOOP- PETAL or TULIP pattern. None have the exact same design or beauty of this honest to goodness Boston& Sandwich Glass piece. The compote has a fiery brilliance. A very silvery apperance to the glass. This was made with a high content of flint giving it a very deep resonant sound when struck, the tone lingers like a bronze bell. In fact, when you just lightly touch this bowl you can hear a faint ring. a remarkable early piece of flint glass! ... moreThe entire design of the bowl is very deeply molded. It has 12 flaring petals that are 1/2" thick and drop down just below the bottom edge of the bowl. The underside of the bowl is quite unusual with it's 6 deep molded circles. The open pedestal base repeats the design of the bowl. This is a very early Boston& Sandwich Flint compote. With it's unusal design to the base of the bowl and the deep joining of the pedestal and bowl. The bowl and the pedestal were made separately and joined together with the typical wafer of molten glass. However on this one the pedestal was pushed well up into the base and you can see were the molten glass of the wafer was pushed out along the edges where the pedestal and bowl meet. Very heavy. This compote weighs more than 4-1/2 lbs. Size: 10-1/4" across x 6-1/4" high x 5" across the base. CONDITION Very Good Condition Expected straw marks from the press and some bubbles. There is some minor wear visable. You can feel a light roughness on the rim edge of a few of the petals and there is one tiny chip on the underside of one petal. Antique Nautilus Dolphin Figural Glass Compote Bohemian or Boston Sandwich
Extremely nice figural dolphin stemmed three piece compote dating to the 19th century. No chips or cracks and quite large at about 7 3/4" long by about 7 1/4" wide and 5 7/8" tall. I think this is American. But could be Bohemian? Insurance always included in shipping. The numbers and letters,if visible in photos, are inventory numbers and do come off with cloth and windex. ANTIQUE COVERED COMPOTE"BARBERRY" This antique glass compote was made by the Boston Sandwich& Glass Company in the"Barberry" pattern and dates to 1860-1880. This Early American Pattern Glass has a raised design of berries and leaves with a beautiful shell finial. Compote measures approx. 8" x 8-1/4" Condition: couple tiny flea bites on cover rim(upon close inspection) and some light utensil marks pretty good for glass 143+ years old. Interesting. Open compotes were left on the table to hold fruit while covered compotes were created to keep the flies off, no air conditioning and I don't know about window or door screens back then. Antique Flint Glass Footed Sugar Bowl BLOCK& BAR by. Boston& Sandwich Glass 1840's 1850's two small chips on the covers rim. No damage to the bowl with the lid on it is 9 inches tall by about 5 inches lots of ware. Straw marks, bubbles in the glass and a polished pontil it's a beautiful piece. And the damage to the lid is not easy to see when it's on the bowl and very heavy thank you for looking

Rare Boston and Sandwich 19th c. pressed glass Fruit Basket with just a chip to petal! One sold at Skinner's with rim chip and chipped foot for $650 plus commission. please ask for any details and I will give you as much as I can. This is a rare find and in color glass sells for between $14.000- $20,000 if you are fortunate enough to find one! The Fruit basket is made of flint glass and if you follow the link you will see how difficult the form was to make and not many survived! Thank you for any interest! Antique Mercury Glass Compote - Hand Blown Pontil BOSTON & SANDWICH 1855 1870
This American made compote stands 6 inches tall. Has a 7 inch bowl, and a 4 3/8 inch base. Hand blown between 1855- 1870. Unembellished, the exterior shows great silvering. the interior has humidity spotting which resembles window frost(95% in the lower half) and a dull area about 1 inch by 1/2 inch shown in the photo's. Shown in Diane Lytwyn's Book"SILVERED MERCURY GLASS" Page 114. The first three pics are different views. The cork is original. Classic shape makes a great photographic study. I package well and ship fast. Insurance is included in shipping cost. Shipping quote is for the continental United States only. Alaska. Hawaii and elsewhere must be adjusted for. Needle etched compote with beautiful workmanship. Cut opening for spoon or ladle. 8-1/2" tall to the top of the knob. Compote opening is approximately 5-1/8" in diameter. Honest wear to the bottom of the base. No cloudiness or cracks. One very small pin head size flake top edge of the knob. See last picture.
