Antique Cut Glass Celery with Rose and Grapevine Engraving 1870 Offered for sale is this fine cut glass celery holder from about 1880. It is cut in straight flutes with an octagonal foot. It is copper wheel engraved on four sides with roses and grapevines. The top rim is scalloped. The piece was blown in three sections- bowl. Stem and foot, and joined by the glassblower, in the nineteenth century method. It has a polished pontil. It dates to circa 1870. The celery stands 8 inches tall by 4 inches wide. This vaseline glass and sterling compote stands 7 1/2" tall. The glass bowl is 5 1/2" x 8" x 2 3/4" deep. The silver base is in the shape of an inverted shell. Beautifully done as could only be made around the turn of the century. If you look closely at the figure, she is a mermaid wiht what appears to be lions feet? There are no markings that we can find. The glass is nearly perfect with virtually no scratches.

Superficial, 1-2" scratches in and under the well of the bowl(pics 4 and 8) There is a very small(1/8" flaw in the side of the bowl in one spot(it's just at the edge of the white napkin. About 3 o'clock- pretty minor pic 7) Some slight wavy horizontal lines on the stem of the base(pic 6,9) These are all pretty minor issues. The rims are nice. No nicks noted anywhere. All-in-all. At the crimped rim is a cranberry and fades to opalescent with a quilted diamond pattern known as M artele. O n the flat part of the bowl has a light chartreuse green spatter decor within the opalescent glass. Sta nd is chrome plated and stamped. No idea of the maker. Sh ows some age. B ut has no dents. Bottom has plaster of paris filled in the hollow base. The fastened brass screw has green felt underneath so it does not scratch the glass. I can't figure how to unscrew to adjust and make the bowl fit ... moretighter. As it wobbles a bit. Surely the screw ca n be r efastened. Glass has no chips. Breaks or stains. 6" tall. This was made c.1880s by Richards& Hartley of Tarentum. Pennsylvania. Gorgeous brilliant crystal clear glass! If you collect this pattern, don't miss out on this item. We rarely see compotes in this pattern and this one is a beauty in Excellent Condition. The top edge of the bowl has a rim of fans and the pattern beneath the fans is quite striking. Blocks of different sizes continue all around the sides. The center of the bowl has 4 rows of blocks in gradually decreasing size. Giving the bowl a beautiful appearance when viewed from the top. The pedestal base repeats the block design with an open base. This is an antique and does glow yellow under a black light. Antique Boston& Sandwich Flint Glass Compote c.1840 Petal& Loop Pattern Very Early High Resonance Flint Glass DESCRIPTION An unusual base on this bowl! A Boston& Sandwich early flint glass compote in the Petal& Loop Pattern made circa 1840 with a gorgeous silvery luster to the glass. Many Pennsylvania glass companies of a much later period made similar compotes in what they called LOOP- PETAL or TULIP pattern. None have the exact same design or beauty of this honest to goodness Boston& Sandwich Glass piece. The compote has a fiery brilliance. A very silvery apperance to the glass. This was made with a high content of flint giving it a very deep resonant sound when struck, the tone lingers like a bronze bell. In fact, when you just lightly touch this bowl you can hear a faint ring. a remarkable early piece of flint glass! ... moreThe entire design of the bowl is very deeply molded. It has 12 flaring petals that are 1/2" thick and drop down just below the bottom edge of the bowl. The underside of the bowl is quite unusual with it's 6 deep molded circles. The open pedestal base repeats the design of the bowl. This is a very early Boston& Sandwich Flint compote. With it's unusal design to the base of the bowl and the deep joining of the pedestal and bowl. The bowl and the pedestal were made separately and joined together with the typical wafer of molten glass. However on this one the pedestal was pushed well up into the base and you can see were the molten glass of the wafer was pushed out along the edges where the pedestal and bowl meet. Very heavy. This compote weighs more than 4-1/2 lbs. Size: 10-1/4" across x 6-1/4" high x 5" across the base. CONDITION Very Good Condition Expected straw marks from the press and some bubbles. There is some minor wear visable. You can feel a light roughness on the rim edge of a few of the petals and there is one tiny chip on the underside of one petal. This beautiful antique plainware Colonial flute pattern glass covered compote was made from a two piece mold with fluted pattern on bottom of the bowl and down the pedistal with a ring in the center. The flute pattern is around the bottom of the round finial also. It measures apprx. 10 1/2" high 7 1/8" across 4 1/4" across the foot. The compote is in fairly good used condition. No cracks, glass is clear with some waviness and tiny bubbles in the glass, some tiny fleabites along one edge of the bottom of the bowl. Here we have a Westward Ho compote that is the 5 inch in diameter size. This compote(LARGE) stands 12 inches tall to the top of the finial and Small stands 9" tall. This was made in 1879 by Gillinder& Sons of Philadelphia. The pattern has sometimes been referred to as Pioneer and Tippy Canoe. It is in the American Pattern Glass Book 1850-1910 by Bill Jenks and Jerry Luna. The compote base features a frosted scene that includes a buffalo. A log cabin, and a deer. The finial is a crouching Indian that stands 3 7/8 inches tall. There is no damage what so ever to this piece( no chip, crack abd repairs, just inside two line due to manufacturing flaw) All in all, this an uncommon piece of EAPG which a serious collector could appreciate. The bowl shape is deeply ruffled or wavy with sharp cut edges. Ornate silver weighted base having leafy vines and scrolled corners. Tested to be at least 750 silver grade. Measures about 7.25" tall by 9.75" wide. Considering its age I would say it is in pretty good condition overall. The bowl has a few small chips to the pointed edges. If you look at the very base underside. In the centre, there is a small inclusion/crack in the glass. And another very small one on the very top inside around the metal centre where the bolt goes. There is abit of gummy material on the underside of base in the same area which I believe is there to stabilize it. Both are minor and not noticeable ... moreunless closely inspected. As for the base. It has a few minor dings to the silver. I noticed one small hole in the silver and another small spot where it looks like it has been repaired.
