Rare object. This piece starts with a wonderful solid cast finial of triple griffin or mythical lion heads on the lid that is domed, with several teired levels. One of these levels has a wonderful classic Moore style beaded border that matches the bottom beaded border on the stem. The lid has a inner ring on the inside that seats snug and tight on the main body of the piece. The interior of the body is gold washed. The decoration on the exterior of the body consists of griffins and floral swirls and scrolls. These absolutely detailed gorgeous designs appear to be hand etched, stippled and chased deeply into the silver and the high points on the griffins and scrolls are gold gilt. There are several blank areas(4) on the body where inscriptions/monograms could be placed and one of these spaces has been engraved with old english monogram and the date"23d Nov 1872" The stem below the main body has several design elements that sweep down into the foot with a beaded border. The stem is hollow inside and the Tiffany& Co hallmarks are inside the lower portion of the foot. The pattern number of"1731" dates this piece to 1865-69. It is marked with a iconic single old english"M" and"550 Broadway" and 925-1000 for sterling(all as photographed) This is truly a Tiffany Moore masterpiece! A VERY RARE ANTIQUE"3 FACE" COVERED GLASS COMPOTE WITH A FROSTED 3 FACE STEM.LOVELY ACID-ETCHING AROUND THE SIDES AND TOP OF THE COMPOTE.Made between 1878 and 1892 by George Duncan& Sons Glass Works(later called Duncan Miller) in Pittsburgh. PA, and designed by mold-shop superintendent, John Ernest Miller. Collectors know this Victorian pattern by several names: Three Faces, Three Graces, Three Fates, and Three Sisters. This covered compote is a combination of clear glass and acid-etched glass. The stem and base are frosted acid-etched glass and the bowl is clear with an additional acid-etched decoration of leaves and berries. That the compote has this additional etching speaks to the fact that it is not a reproduction or reissue because etching was only done on original Three Face pieces. Offered at auction is this very fine piece of antique Early American Pattern Glass. The piece is a covered bowl or compote. The pattern is called Westward Ho and it made by Gillinder& Sons in 1879. I checked the website for fakes and this piece matches the real ones. This piece stands about 9” to the top of the Indian finial and is about 6 ¾” x 4” in an oval shape. The compote is in very good condition with no cracks and some minor flakes on the bottom of the pedestal base from over a hundred years of use. Please see our other auctions. Gorgeous Victorian period Crystal and Sterling Silver covered compote or candy dish. Total height is 12. Diameter inside bowl is 5. Sterling base is 3" tall. Look at photos#7 and#8 to see dents to the silver base. There are no chips or cracks to the crystal portion. In photo#10 there is a slight"bump" on the inside of the cover's rim. It is smooth and you can only feel it from the inside. Bottom is covered in a felt like material. We spent quite a bit of time trying to decipher the hallmarks with little success. Here they are: CM8 inside a cross-Right facing Lion over the numeral 2-Sovereign Head which looks like a lady wearing a bonnet facing left-Letter C inside a round indention Help on the hallmarks would be greatly appreciated. It's about 6" tall, by 6" wide and has a formed round foot, rimmed bowl top and rimmed, fitted lip on top lid. It's designed having white enameled dots with gilt inside them; and gold paint flecks everywhere on its exteriors. This Early American Pattern Glass has a raised design of berries and leaves with a beautiful shell finial. Compote measures approx. 8" x 8-1/4" Condition: couple tiny flea bites on cover rim(upon close inspection) and some light utensil marks pretty good for glass 143+ years old. Interesting. I am listing this item for my neighbor- she said she inherited from a friends estate many years ago and all she knows is it is old. It is marked on the bottom K. R. Society. 1881- 1931 and I have no other info and no idea what that stands for. It is ornately designed on top with leaves, fruit, floral and down the sides and base with a blown pale blue glass insert that is removable as shown. The top is quite heavy and fits nice and snugly in the lower part and I have no idea what is was used for or the significance of K. R. Society. Stands about 8 1/2" tall and widest seems about 4 1/2" On the lower part it seems like a little peapod with 6 peas- not sure if that is some type of hallmark but it is only in one place and not repeated. This is an amazing nearly 12" tall covered square compote in what might be Jeanette glass. There are no cracks. Nicks, or chips. All rims and edges are smooth, including the scalloped lid with bulbous knob on top. It is truly beautiful and very old. There are a couple tiny air bubbles within the glass. It measures about 6" across. 12" high w/lid, and very heavy. This looks like Jeanette glass. But also looks to be higher quality with a more beautiful lid, and more refined details and glass. COVERED VASELINE GLASS COMPOTE WITH LID - PRESSED GLASS - PERFECT CONDITION
This beautiful small compost is in perfect condition. It is the Vaseline color of old pressed glass probably made in the 1960s. Would be my guess. Strictly a guess) I know I have had it for at least 40 years or so. Up to the decorative point on top is 7 1/2" tall. It is 5" in diameter at the middle. It is VERY heavy glass. I don't remember what the pressed glass pattern is, as I never collected much glassware, but it is pretty. As I said, also in fine shape. The top lip of the compote and the bottom lip of the lid has a beading on the edge, I guess to make it fit together more securely. Not much else to say, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Antique, covered glass compote/ candy bowl. This magnificent piece belonged to my grandmother and dates from just after 1900. The compote measures 14" in height and 9" in diameter. The cover has a toothed rim that fits into the matching toothed rim of the bowl. And the entire surface of the glass lid and bowl, is covered with prominent, four-sided peaks in a graduated pattern. The bowl here is quite deep and can hold a lot of candy or a sweet dessert. There is a small chip on the interior side of one of the teeth of the lid. VIKING Pattern COVERED COMPOTE Hobbs Brockunier EAPG 1876 Sun Purple Bearded Man
Here's an exquisite Lidded or Covered Compote Dish for serving fruit or sauces in the‘Viking’ pattern made by Hobbs Brockunier& Co. for the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. PA. The Viking name is appropriate since the face of a bearded man(viking) is used in high relief on each of the three feet on the platform style base. Hobbs is the only know manufacturer of the Viking pattern which was patented Nov. 21, 1876 as#9,647. Production dates 1876-1890. This covered compote is made with clear non-flint glass. And apparently had some manganese added to offset any green tint, and it must have had some sunlight in it’s 138± years, so it now has a lovely pale purple tint. The compote measures 11" tall to the top of the lid/cover 5 1/2" in diameter dish is 2 1/2" deep. I see no chips. Cracks or scratches. There are a few air bubbles in this antique piece. I believe that this is from one of the Midwestern Pittsburgh are glass factories. However, I cannot rule out Sandwich or New England. The quality of the glass, cutting and construction is outstanding. It measures roughly 12" tall x 6 3/4" in diameter across the bowl. A lot of work went into the making of this piece. It has an applied hollow cut cover knob that is ground flat at the top and polished. The stem is also hollow and cut faceted. There is a band of cut panel around the outside of the bowl. The underside of the base is ground and polished. The domed cover with flange is just great. As nice as the piece looks in the pictures its even nicer when you handle it. The condition is mint. There are no chips, cracks, flakes, hairlines or evidence of grinding of any kind. There are no surface scratches or interior surface staining. It rings like a bell when you tap it with your finger. For the discriminating collector. This antique covered compote was manufactured by the George. Duncan& Sons firm in the last quarter of the 19 th Century. And is the largest version of this piece made. This stunning beauty stands 13 ½ inches tall and is 8 ½ inches in diameter at the bowl. The clarity of this piece is superb. And the frosted stem and base are both free from any chips, cracks or repairs and are also free from any striation marks. The beaded rim on the compote’s bowl has 44 beads, each of which is free from chips or cracks. The one and only condition issue needing mentioned here is the small flake to the nose on the lid. I have pictured this from several angles so one may evaluate the extent of the damage. I believe being as hard to find as this piece is, this is a minor flaw. On Nov-11-14 at 03:12:30 PST.
