The bowl is cut with a wonderful scalloped edge cut in semicircles on the outside. There is a lightly cut lotus looking blossoms design around the bowl and in between the 4 draped panels with a cut diamond design. The stem is a lovely sculptured nude lady with a robe draped over one leg. She holds the bowl in one hand on her head. The base is cicular with a starburst design on underneath. The compote measures about 12 1/2" tall ... moreand 8" wide across the top rim. The base measures about 4 1/2" wide. It has a silver and blue label on the base which reads 24% pbo which I believe means lead crystal.It also has what looks like" roct 30407-96" on the label. There is also a worn blue and silver label on the bowl but I can't read the characters as they are foreign. Possibly Slovakian, Czech or Russian although I can't be sure. There is a bird with an open wing on it with the number 1756r The bowl was purchased at an antique dealer's estate sale but I was unable to learn much about it. It is in very good condition. I can see no chips on the rim but see a few light scratches which are very minor. This is a lovely tall Art Deco style compote. Thanks for looking. Vintage retro Farber Bros Art Nouveau Deco Era Compote Amethyist Glass MINT Brothers Louis and Harry Farber were born in Russia in the late 19th century and immigrated to the United State just after the turn of the 20th century. Louis and Harry began working for S. W. Farber. Their older brother who sold products under the name Farberware. In 1915 they formed their own company, using the trade name Farber Brothers Krome-Kraft. Many collectors mistakenly believe that Farberware and Farber Brothers are synonymous, but despite the fact that all three were brothers, there was in fact no relationship between the two companies. Farberware is still in business today. Louis and Harry decided to make hollow-ware and brass products that they could sell at competitive prices in the market, a business concept that was successful for nearly fifty years. ... moreFarber Brothers patented their famous clip-on, clip-off holder in 1932, which helped the company grow rapidly. The invention entailed a stand or base that held china inserts, which could be inexpensively replaced if the glass chipped, cracked or broke. Louis Farber purchased the Sheffield Silver Company in 1935, and continued to operate it separately from Farber Brothers, producing the patented holders in sterling and silver-plate, with glass inserts. Even though the Sheffield pieces had a different logo mark, the Farber Brothers design is quite obvious. Sheffield holders and inserts are coveted by collectors. By the 1950s, as Farber Brothers’ famed non-tarnishing chrome holders went out of style, brass versions were introduced to try and compensate for lower unit sales. The brass models sold well but only for a brief period and overall sales continued to decline until 1965, when the company shut down operations. Sheffield Silver continued operating until 1973, when Reed and Barton purchased the company, ending the Farber Brothers fifty year legacy. The metal part is silver plate over brass. But most of the silver plate has worn off. This typically happened to these items. It shows a stag deer buck standing under an oak tree that holds the crystal top. These items were usually centerpieces on tables in hunting chalets. It measures 9 1/2" tall. The crystal has a scalloped edge and measures 10 1/2" in diameter. The metal base measures 5" in diameter. Good used condition. No chips or cracks on the crystal.
