Condition: Used Location: Magnolia, United States This wooden carpenter's tool box was discovered at a small flea market in upper Bucks County Pennsylvania. Chock full of rusty-dirty charm. This box ... morehas outer strap hinges that were riveted on with brass. A set of strap hinges were added down the middle for added strength, these were fastened with antique wood screws. The bottom part of the padlock latch is attached to a modified strap hinge. The paint is chipped and chipping. There is an oil stain around the hinge of the padlock latch, someone penciled a circle on the lid*under* the handle- so the circle, apparently, is from before the handle was added.and that handle has been attached for a long time! Inside there is a tray with a hole cut out of it to accommodate some unknown tool of yester-year. The tray must have been made from an old crate as the word"GLASS" can still be seen stenciled on one board. On the outside. Below the lid, there is a thin notch, one can only wonder what function that notch was cut for. The often missing handles on the side are firmly attached with antique wood screws. Measures: 31. 15/16 inches wide- 9, 3/8 inches deep and 10, 1/2 inches tall. This box is sturdy with no loose screws. Inside the shelf is dirty, there are water stains on the bottom and inside. Please see and enlarge the photos for a good look. I will combine shipping whenever possible. I can ship this or you may pick this up at the Quakertown Farmers Market- Friday or Saturday morning. This early cedar chest has the trendy look of today’s home furnishing looks. The simple lines. Careful detailing and hand-rubbed, distressed black finish are so in today that it’s virtually a prototype of newly manufactured trunks with vintage styling. The piece has original papers, along with the embossed signature dating it back to 1927 by well known American cedar chest company Lane of Virginia. The outside has classic carving, with lovely detail around the keyhole. Inside, it’s made of beautiful cedar, which is in great condition. The trunk is sturdy and the cedar is fresh and perfect inside. Lane Antique Vintage Art Deco Cedar Hope Blanket Chest
Original antique/vintage art deco Lane Cedar Chest. This has been in our family since 1947. It is Style# 2120. Serial# 641260. According to the Lane website, date of manufacture is coded in the serial# just reverse the numbers. So this chest was manufactured on 06/21/46. It measures approximately 48" long x 18" wide x 18" high. I have included several pictures so you can see the overall condition. There are a lot of light scratches on the lid(nothing deep) and a few more on the front and sides. There are also several small patches where the veneer has come off on the edges and one section where one of my children drew a couple of small pictures. I am not an expert on restoration. But I would think that these veneer sections could be repaired. The interior is in very good condition- no chips or scratches anywhere on the cedar ... moreplanks and the felt is intact and complete. The lid opens smoothly and closes completely. The legs are solid and are also intact. At one point. The Lane Company did issue a recall on the locks/latches of these chests so the lock will be removed. They are offering free lock replacement kits that can be acquired by calling their toll-free number. Considering this chest is close to 70 years old. And all of the moves it has gone through, it is in overall solid, good condition with a lot of use left in it. All sales are final. So please ask any questions before bidding. 1950's LANE CEDAR CHEST Mid Century Modern style hope/blanket chest- Mfg date 11/30/1956 Near perfect condition. No scratches. Broken corners, chunks of wood missing, pieces glued, painted over finish"fixes" or anything that would detract from its look or value. However, since it is a vintage piece of furniture. If you look really hard and are overly discriminating, you probably can find a flaw or two. So I say that it is"near" perfect, not"absolutely" perfect. There is nothing that would make you say"Oh poop! after you purchase it. The only thing that I note is that two of the wood risers on the bottom side have been removed so the chest can roll up flush to rises in a floor. Yes it has wheels. If somebody wanted to put these back on. Why I do not know, it could easily be done by even the least crafty ... morecraftsman and be completely undetectable as they are on the bottom of the chest facing the floor and the wood is unfinished. No tricky color matching or wood crafting needed. Inside a foldaway shelf automatically rises as the lid opens and the original felt is still perfect. The chest is marked at the bottom Style#7041-29. This vintage hope chest/blanket box has been in my family for over fifty years. It was given to my mother by an elderly friend in 1963. The exterior is a dark wood matte finish(it needs serious polishing to bring it back) Perhaps cherry, with a cedar interior. It has club feet and is meant to be set against a wall or at the foot of a bed. There are normal signs of wear and tear, which is normal for a piece of furniture in use for over half a century. I have sold my house- so this piece is now in a temperature controlled storage unit. Item has damaged veneer across the front. There are light scratches on the lid(nothing deep) and a few more on the front and sides. There are also a few small patches where the veneer has come off on the edges and one section(see 8th picture) where one of my children drew a couple of small pictures. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit ... moreof veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. This cedar chest has been in my family since it was new. From the research I've done. It appears the date of manufacture is 10/06/1936. I have the serial number and style number. see photos) The interior is perfect(see photos. It would be worth a lot more money if refinished and possibly the lock replaced. Lakeside Crafts started in business in 1916 and Chest Manufacture was primarily in the first 10 or 20 years. This chest is in excellent condition. Missing only the lock. We vacuumed out the interior, cleaned the exterior, and treated the exterior with Howards Restor-a Finish Mahogany and then with furniture oil. The insert on the front is leather framed with wood. And the image of a sailing ship is impressed in the leather. This piece is ready for you to use. Not a fixer up project, and all you need to do is add your clothing items. Beautifuly Renewed Vintage 1932 Lane Cedar Hope Chest, Blanket/Storage Chest
Absolutely Beautiful Renewed 1932 Lane Cedar Hope Chest. This is a really amazing chest with fantastic colors. Beautiful decor and is in great condition. It's a solid chest. Very well built and has stood the test of time exceptionally well. Overall, the chest is in outstanding shape considering its been around since before the big war. All the trim pieces are fully intact. The hinges are tight, the ornate feet are very secure, the inside is perfect and very aromatic. There are a few small pieces of veneer missing. One on the top right hand end, a very small piece on the top left side and a few slight chips across the back. I don't replace veneer but I do stain the underlying layer of veneer so the missing pieces don't stand out so much. This chest was definitely taken care of through the years and with good care it should remain ... morebeautiful for many years to come. This is truly a rare heirloom piece that would look great in any home. This chest has been renewed by numerous hours of polishing to remove the surface scratches and smooth out the deeper damage. After the polishing process. I rub it with rejuvenating oils then spray a few coats of clear to preserve the new-found beauty. What results is a chest that looks years younger. It does have a few minor chips and dings that you expect from such an old chest but they don't stand out after the renewing process. The lock has been disabled due to a Lane recall. 48" wide. 20.5" tall and 19" deep Serial# 236111. Built November 16 1932 The pics look good but I don't think they do it justice. Beautiful vintage Lane cedar hope chest in great vintage condition. It has an art deco design with beautiful wood grain! The wood does have a few chips and scratches but I have not attempted to clean or polish it. The inside is excellent with original labeling and cedar with felt lining. Measures 47½ x 17½ x 21" tall. PLEASE NOTE: We will need to remove the lock and you will need to replace with a new one. ATTN: Per the Consumer Product Safety Commission(CPSC) Full size chests manufactured between 1912-1987 need to have their locks replaced due to the fact that the original locks automatically latch shut when closed and children can become entrapped.
