IL- ... moreFar west Chicago suburbs) UP FOR AUCTION: A gorgeous. Vintage, Art Deco, walnut waterfall-style cedar-lined blanket or hope chest. Elegant contrasting veneer inlay work on front center. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit of veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. This classic Chest in original condition, and it has a medium/dark Walnut stain finish color on the outside. See pictures. This Chest has interesting carved accents on the front. And it has wide legs. See pictures. This elegant Cedar Chest was produced by the Tennessee Furniture c ompany. A fine furniture manufacturer, and it was sold by the Grand Rapids Furniture Company of New York. This bea u ti f ul Chest is secure and sturdy with some small scratches here and there proper with its age& w ear and tear. See pictures. There are some minor repairs and touch-ups on the Chest. 30s Art Deco Heirloom Wood Roos Sweetheart Cedar Chest w/ Tray Insert Excellent!
Vintage 30s Roos Cedar Chest This is a gorgeous heirloom quality Roos Sweetheart cedar chest from the late 1930s. This Roos chest was made in Forest Park. IL. The chest is made of Claro Walnut, Striped Walnut and Black Walnut. The inside of the chest is aromatic Red Cedar. The cedar chest is still quite aromatic, it has a special sealite lid to prevent the escape of the protective cedar fumes. The chest measures 47-1/4" long, it is 23" tall and 18-1/4" deep. It has a cedar tray on the inside which is 10" deep. The cedar chest is in excellent condition, the wood is rich and it gleams. On close inspection it shows a few vintage scuffs, mainly where the back edge would rub against the wall when opened, but nothing outstanding and it shows no abuse. The inside looks like new. There is a lock on the chest but I do not have ... morea key. This chest comes from a smoke free and pet free home. It is clean and ready to use. Buyers are welcome to ask for other forms of payment. Solid wood construction with decorative patterned veneer. Original finish. The cedar scent is still very strong. The lid opens by depressing the latch on the outside. There is a 3-section tray on the inside with a hinged cover over the center section. Measures approx. 45 in long x 18 1/2 in deep x 23 in high This piece is in very nice condition. The interior is excellent. The exterior is in very good shape. There are 2 pieces of the veneer missing along the top left side; they have been restained. Primitive Antique Blanket Chest Folk Art Wood Miniature Mini Trunk Fruit Crate
Awesome primitive folk art miniature wooden blanket chest. Made from an old fruit crate. All components of box show traces of having been gleaned from a fruit crate the box is in excellent shape, and measures 8" long by 3 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall. There are three tiny nail holes visible on top of box lid one in front center, and two on right side edge, which are remnants of when piece was a packing crate please see last photo. The front of box has a beautiful scallop design and still retains faint pencil layout lines. Original to the creation of the piece. Both sides of the mini blanket chest have footed arched features which join and compliment the scalloped arched front. The interior of box is where the origin of this unique piece is hidden, the wooden interior reveals the writing, advertising of the original fruit crate ... moreof which it was made. the handles are missing. but it's not really going to be used to hold stuff anyway look carefully at the images. I'm sure you know some. or about all of the people inside. would certainly make an interesting centerpiece. maybe cut some glass or plexiglass to fit inside as a table, then close the lid and use the top as a table when kids come over the cutouts inside are old. some are ripped. You're bidding on a beautiful. Original Art Deco Waterfall-style(what I call a) lingerie chest of drawers. This piece shows VERY well and should be a featured item in your decor. The lamination and parquetry are bold and visually striking. It has some minor flaws and wear, including a small chip(1/2" to the lower right of one drawer, a couple of light scratches, and a spot of minor laminate warp. I have pictured these. Drawers slide beautifully on wood side rails(under-drawer) It features lots of vertical and horizontal fluting. I am not an expert on wood, so I won't venture a guess on this piece. You tell me! All I know is, it's a beautiful piece of decorative, functional furniture. This piece has been coated with varnish or shellac or polyurethane(or something similar) which increases its glossy appearance. That does not ... moredetract from the appearance of the piece. Lovely. Vintage, Late 1940's or early 1950's, Lane Cedar Hope Chest. Chest measures approximately 47-1/4" wide, 22-3/4" tall and 18-1/2" in depth. The Chest is in the Art Deco Style. There is a top self which is divided in two parts with original green felt liner. The chest has the original paperwork included. The locks were repaired with a safety lock in September, 2013. New key and instruction sheet included. The underside of the chest has style number 2231, and serial# 846230. The inside of the chest is in good condition. The outside of the chest shows signs of age and has some scratches and wear, from being relocated a few times, but is in good condition for its age. The three rear hinges open and close well. Antique 1940s Lane Art Deco Cedar Chest
This beautiful art deco multi-veneer cedar chest dates from the 1940s. My parents were the original owners. The interior has a triple-sectioned. Felt-lined tray for valuables and a cedar-lined interior to protect your goods from moths. The chest has a rolled front and multi-veneer face with five different veneers across the front. The top has a V-shaped design and the feet on the bottom are carved and notched. The chest measures 46 in. long, 18 in. wide, 23 in. tall(ground to top) and 13 in. deep(inside) It has its original finish, and while it does show some minor signs of use and wear(see photos for details) it is otherwise in great condition. Up for sale is a VINTAGE COMPRESSED WOOD& METAL SQUARE CHEST WITH PAINTED DUCK FOLK ART This chest is from my father's collection and was stored in his garage. The chest appear is in fair condition. The chest is made of compressed wood with the same painted country scene on four panels. All of the panels have water damage of some sort; some more than others. The bottom panel has water marks and stains. The top panel has had some paint removed(due to a label) The metal framing is very rusty and the chest smells musty. The chest measures approximately 16" length x 16" wide x 16" high. I cannot locate a makers mark or label. This chest was stored in a non-smoking home garage. When possible. Lane Antique Vintage Art Deco Cedar Hope Blanket Chest
Original antique/vintage art deco Lane Cedar Chest. This has been in our family since 1947. It is Style# 2120. Serial# 641260. According to the Lane website, date of manufacture is coded in the serial# just reverse the numbers. So this chest was manufactured on 06/21/46. It measures approximately 48" long x 18" wide x 18" high. I have included several pictures so you can see the overall condition. There are a lot of light scratches on the lid(nothing deep) and a few more on the front and sides. There are also several small patches where the veneer has come off on the edges and one section where one of my children drew a couple of small pictures. I am not an expert on restoration. But I would think that these veneer sections could be repaired. The interior is in very good condition- no chips or scratches anywhere on the cedar ... moreplanks and the felt is intact and complete. The lid opens smoothly and closes completely. The legs are solid and are also intact. At one point. The Lane Company did issue a recall on the locks/latches of these chests so the lock will be removed. They are offering free lock replacement kits that can be acquired by calling their toll-free number. Considering this chest is close to 70 years old. And all of the moves it has gone through, it is in overall solid, good condition with a lot of use left in it. All sales are final. So please ask any questions before bidding.
