Brass Measurement: 39 1/2" Wide x 19 1/2" Deep x 21" Tall Condition: Very Good Vintage Attributes: This is a 1940's era storage or steamer trunk. It is crafted in wood. Painted navy blue on the outside. It features wrap around decorative brass hardware on the top and bottom edges of the trunk itself and on the four corners of the top, please refer to photos for detail. There are two wide decorative brass bands running up the front of the trunk and the lid, across the top of the lid, and down the back of the trunk, all held in place with tiny brass nails. The lid is hinged in the back, all hardware is brass. The front lid features two brass tabs which fold down onto the locking pins. Steampunk Trunk Kit Vintage Brass Plated Hardware w/Leather Handles
This trunk hardware and leather handles are from the early 1970s. The patina on the brass is from their age. The leather handles are 9 3/4" long and three ply at 5/16" thick. There are 8 corners. 20 knees, 1 Long lock w/key, 2 large rectangular draw downs, 2 handles, 4 handle clamps, 2 hinges, and 2 lid stays. This is a similar list of hardware and handles used to build the trunk in the second photo(from 1974) thought seeing the finished product with similar hardware would help. TRUNK NOT INCLUDED, this item is the HARDWARE KIT ONLY. I can draw up the plans for that one if it would help a project. I handmade the metal trim from sheet aluminum and cut the bows from 3/4" X 2 1/4" oak that I split and rounded the edges of each half on a table router, pretty easy stuff. There is also a second patent sate impressed into leather on the back of the trunk, it reads: PATENTED MAY 24, 1910 800 WARRANTED GENUINE COWHIDE 200(see pic included of back of trunk) This luggage suitcase is circa 1921 with the last patent date being the approximate date of manufacture, this old antique trunk is genuine'cowhide' leather as is stated on back, it has a leather handle which has plenty ... moreof wear as does the trunk-there are worn through areas of leather and leather loss, there is significant wear and abrasion to edges and surfaces and some holes in the leather along with some loose stitches and a few loose undone seams(see close-up pic of an example provided for your close inspection) overall the trunk has held up and is held together rather well, it is well-made with reinforced leather double stitched corners and corner pads(see pics) handle is worn at ring-mount holes(see pics) but is held on securely, there is brass hardware and brass latches on front, there is no key, the front button opens the case when pushed in well, the case closes securely but the left corner latch leaves a slight looseness to this section although suitcase is closed, there is a musty odor to luggage trunk as it has been sitting vacant in a closet for over 50 years and is almost 100 years old-it could use a good airing in the open air, some of the reddish coloring of the leather rubs off from surface onto fingers when touched. AMAZING VINTAGE GENUINE LEATHER TRUNK/ CASE WITH BRASS HARDWARE- This stunning piece is approximately 35.5" wide x 20.5" tall x 9.5" deep. It is made of thick rich genuine leather with a gorgeous patina in hues ranging from brown to cognac to tan. It has two wooden skids on the back for protection. And it comes with a removable tan canvas cover and a pair of long leather straps that wrap all the way around the bag. The straps are damaged, and one of them is torn so it no longer fits all the way around the case. I would recommend replacing the straps. There is a lovely dark blue fabric interior lining. And t here are two functional brass hardware latches on this trunk. The central latch was removed from the case at some point. A previous owner installed 4 small steel casters on the bottom of this trunk in the style of a pullman suitcase.
