I have this beautiful hand carved Chinese camphor wood dresser chest. This dresser is a light cherry color. Measures 36 1/4" Wide by 18 1/2" Deep by 40 1/4" Tall. There are 4 drawers 2 long drawers and 2 small drawers. All have original wood liner in the drawers, so of course you can see wear to the wood, slight cracks here and there. The chest on top has a sliding tray which is also removable. The chest is 13" Deep. There is an original sticker from the manufacturer on the chest lid which states that this is a George Zee& Company piece of furniture that was made in Shanghai. Beautifully curved legs, finished off with quality bronze shoes- saboes. Masterfully inlaid and finished on all sides. Commodes each have 2 drawers, decorated with floral marquetry inlay, beautiful and quality constructed dove tailed endings(ample storage space) Each commode has two pairs of bronze handles flanking center escutcheons(key hole) Beautiful vivid color wood. Pair of Antique Italian Bombe Chest Commode Dresser
Well. Here's a nice set of dressers! Grand in scale. Concept/design and with subtle elegance and sophistication. Real"barrel rib construction" allows for dramatic shaping and curving of the veneer. Check out the pics of the inside, barrel like construction to these. So when they laid over the veneer on this ribbing, over the years, as the veneer shrunk, compared to the underlining supports, both on the sides(some veneer cracks) and on the drawer fronts, it's underlying barrel rib features come to the surface and are being nicely expressed. Gives us another dimension in aging. Beautiful patina with a subtle satin oil-varnish rub finish.
