Mid Century Mahogany Federal Style 2 over 2 Drawer Chest W/ Banded Inlaid Design
This is a mid century Federal style two over two drawer chest. The maker of this piece is unknown. It appears to be a good quality piece that is well made. This is made from mahogany and has a banded. Inlaid design framing the faces of the drawers and on the top of the chest. There is string inlay down the front legs. The drawers are jointed and tight. The handles on this have been replaced. The original handles were an oval brass design and there are signs on the drawers where they sat originally. The piece measures 32.5" in height. 42" in length and 20 3/8" in depth. This has the original porcelain casters with brass caps. The top two drawers have an inside depth of 3.25" The middle is 4.25" deep and the bottom drawer is 5.25" deep. There is a slight warp in the top of this and it can be seen in the photos. ... moreThere is also a small crack on one of the side panels. There are age and use appropriate scartches and dings on the legs as well. Overall this is a good looking piece that is solid. This is a previously owned item and it is being sold as shown. This unique item is a vintage wicker storage basket. Dating back to probably before the mid century. The wicker basket itself is assumed that old. No one knows if it was built as a house or if that was done later. However, this is not just someone's craft project. The house has been around for at least decades, but could have been built that way in the first place- just am unable to get that verified, as a fact. It measures approximately, a little over 22" high x almost 13" wide x almost 11"deep. Not sure what it was originally intended for, but nowadays, it can be used as a laundry hamper, a trash can after a plastic bag is placed inside, general storage, or just as decor. While it is in pretty good condition for how old it is, there are breaks in the wicker and missing paint. Also, some dust. One window that I know of, ... morehas been glued back on. I love this trunk! There are a few on line for sale in the UK and on 1 st Dibs but you don't see these available for sale very often on eBay. It is currently being used as a coffee table and is packed full of the owners photographs so it makes very useful storage too. I have done some research and it looks as though it may have been made back in England late 40's early 50's. The interior has a faded red fabric lining and a top tray also lined in the same fabric. I looked behind the lining and the trunk is thin wood under the aluminum. It measures 40" long by 20" deep by 21" tall. Leather handles on both sides. One is a little dry. The center latch won't stay up on its own and there isn't a lock. The 2 side latches work. It is covered in scratches on the top and has a water stain. Scuffs, scrapes, etc. From age and normal use. The interior has a nice tray that raises on hinges when the lid opens. The interior is lined with wood with a paper(like wall paper) wrap. In pretty good shape with a little cracking and 1" x 2" hole in the paper in 1 corner exposing the wood beneath the paper. It had vintage clothing stored in it and has that vintage smell inside that i can only describe as moth ball or as i remember grandma's house smelled. This is a large ... moretrunk.
