IL- ... moreFar west Chicago suburbs) UP FOR AUCTION: A gorgeous. Vintage, Art Deco, walnut waterfall-style cedar-lined blanket or hope chest. Elegant contrasting veneer inlay work on front center. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit of veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. The buyer, if he/she desires a working lock, can probably purchase one through ebay or vi

Stunning vintage 1870's steamer trunk. Little different to the normal ones from this era. Quite a topic of conversation with visitors this one. The large impressive chest comes metal upright banding. Horizontal hard wooden banding held with large brass studs. Replacment top clamps added these were missing. Brass lock and Hasp. Shellac with Bri Wax polish finish. Two working side catches. Altavista, VA· list of patent numbers(as seen in the picture) Imprinted on the bottom: style# 3043· serial# 451240. This chest measures 48 inches wide by 18 inches deep by 17 inches high. When opened. You are greeted with the fresh scent of natural cedar as a shelf rises up and away for easy access to the chest below. Based on the serial number. The manufacture date was April 21, 1954. I received the chest in the early-to-mid 70s and had it professionally refinished with a walnut stain in 1979. Boston, MA" The Paine Furniture Company was founded in Boston. Ma in 1835 by Leonard Shearer. In 1835 Boston was a small city, but the furniture industry was rapidly growing and in 1872 Shearer opened an huge Paine Furniture Co. Furniture Center. By 1914 Paine Furniture was operating from a ten-story showroom and factory. This fine blanket chest is executed in mahogany with a wonderful cedar lining that offers a lift out cedar tray. This large chest offers a tremendous amount of storage possibilities and features full ebonized Corinthian columns with gold accents at the top and base. The top does show surface scratches and a dark ring. Lock is intact but we do not have the key. On the inside of the lid by the lock there is additional wear and scratches around the brass lock and small metal braces have been added at some point in time to the right inside back corner. This chest is a wonderful piece to place at the foot of a bed for storage of blankets and linens and is solid and sturdy enough to be a seating area as well and offers substantial storage with classic style. Antique Eastern European Hungarian Wedding Blanket Chest Carved Painted C.1853
Rustic and primitive. This antique wedding chest is a true gem. With original iron hardware, and lightly carved detail, this pine chest dates to around 1850. The face of the chest features two carved panels with exquisite geometric detail. There are painted elements ensconced in a wreath motif, but we are not able to decipher the original image. The craved detail is also featured on the top of the lid, along with the fasteners for the original iron hardware. The lid lifts to reveal a pine interior. The interior surface of the lid gives clues to the life and history of this unique piece. There are pencil marks and writing in what appears to be Hungarian. We also found the remnant of a decal with the word'szivem' on it. Szivem translates from Hungarian to English as'my dear one. fitting for a marriage chest. The lid is also marked ... morewith the years 1853, 1856, 1861, and 1867. Perhaps the notations were made as the piece changed hands? We believe this to be the original paint. It had a blue gray surface hue. With bittersweet side panels. This folk art piece is in fair to good condition. It is structurally sound, though shows its age through cosmetic issues like worn sides and deterioration of the painted surface. While the hinges and side handles are original, the center lock is no longer in place. The chest measures 35" in length. 17" in height, and has a depth of about 20 1/2" We are offering this piece for'local pickup only. Featuring double locks and two levels. This beautiful Hope Chest is multi-functional and a great collectors piece! The first shelf has four felt compartments including one large area that you can strap down a blanket or anything really! The largest compartment under the first shelf is lined with thick paper with holes. This method is used to protect both the cedar and any items stored. Articles and cloths along with other items can stick to the cedar and possibly ruin both. The lining helps the cedar breath. And keeps items from attaching to the wood. The entire Chest has wood inlay around the body. And lovely carved embellishment around the edges. Along the bottom, a long gallery of turned stiles frames the chest, resting over plain bracket feet and mounted on a wheeled base. It opens to a clean interior, very broad and large. Is painted gray all over and painted with scenes over top, front and one side. Other sides were started but not finished. On the top in the painting of the girl the date of 1948 has been painted in. Primitive Antique Blanket Chest Folk Art Wood Miniature Mini Trunk Fruit Crate
Awesome primitive folk art miniature wooden blanket chest. Made from an old fruit crate. All components of box show traces of having been gleaned from a fruit crate the box is in excellent shape, and measures 8" long by 3 3/4" wide and 3 1/4" tall. There are three tiny nail holes visible on top of box lid one in front center, and two on right side edge, which are remnants of when piece was a packing crate please see last photo. The front of box has a beautiful scallop design and still retains faint pencil layout lines. Original to the creation of the piece. Both sides of the mini blanket chest have footed arched features which join and compliment the scalloped arched front. The interior of box is where the origin of this unique piece is hidden, the wooden interior reveals the writing, advertising of the original fruit crate ... moreof which it was made. Vintage Trunk Chest Cargo Storage Coffee Table Blanket Box Excellent
For your consideration is this wonderful vintage cargo trunk in excellent condition. This chest appears to have been hardly used. As it is clean. With only a few scrapes to the hardware on the outside. There is a four inch deep, lift out tray inside with two cutout handles on the end, and two tie down straps to keep your garments or cargo in place during transit. As you can see in the pictures. The inside is a green color, and also notice the clean condition with no spots, stains, holes, or dis-coloration. The outside is ruggedly built with quality hardware, oak runners top and bottom, a metal band around the outside, corner protection, and on each end is a square holder for perhaps a label, or owners information, On the front is a lock, with no key, and a sturdy, thick, brown leather handle strap. The wide steel handles on the ends are spring-loaded ... moreto keep them in place and protect them in transit. The only marks on this trunk are seen on the inside of the lid. I have not been able to find anymore from that name. This beautiful blanket chest was made with hand selected materials from an old barn here in the Louisiana Bayou area. It was made from weathered exterior cypress siding. Which created a beautiful example of how reclaimed barn wood continues to live on. The top still has the original saw markings from the saw mill which adds a beautiful touch to its originality. If the finish isn't to your liking one with the stain of your liking can be made. Cedar lining can be added at an addition cost. Antique Vtg Red Cedar Blanket Hope Chest Bedroom Furniture storage CEDAR CHEST
I have up for sale a very nice vintage original circa 1920s- 40s Cedar Chest. The chest is in very clean original condition! It measures approx 45-1/4" long. 20" deep, approx 19-1/2" tall which includes the 1" castor height. The chest is in Excellent Condition- nice clean original finish- strong& sturdy- has a flat top which would be strong enough to sit on- that is unless you are over 300 lbs then I would not advise it. Some normal light age wear as one would expect. The only damage to note is a fairly inconspicuous chip/ slivered off piece- located on the front lower right. Shown up close in pics 10& 12. This is not something that is very noticeable at all, the sliver was done many years back and it has been stained over and the only way you will notice it, is if you look upclose with scrutiny. There is some ... moreslight wear to the metal bands, but its very light- nothing serious. The hinge works perfectly and the little metal elbow for holding the top up, when opened,works just fine. I do not have the key for the lock and not sure if the lock works. Dates back to the mid-20th century. Trunk retains it's original vibrant finish on the cherry wood, which has a beautiful glowing red coloration. This is a one of a kind, hand crafted piece of heirloom folk art furniture. It has been appointed with solid brass hardware. Two d-ring type handles with back plates on either end, as well as a twist barrel hasp latch on the front. Three heavy brass hinges on backside for added stability on the lift top. The till has two cutout handle openings for ease in removal and insertion back into the trunk, and is also constructed of solid cherry wood. Vintage Industrial Wood Trunk Crate Case Foot Locker Blanket Chest Toy Box
This wood crate has a nice warm finish and interesting hinges. A latch has been removed from the lid. And there are two handles, one on the end and one below where the latch was. The cabinet has an interior lining that is like corrugated cardboard. The trunk measures 31" L x 19" W x 13" T. The interior measures 28.5" L x 15.5" W x 9 3/4" T with a 1" of additional height inside the lid. This is a nice sized trunk that would work great for storing items, stood on end for a display, or as a low end table. It can be stood on end easily due to the lack of the handle on one end.
